ROGUES ARE GETTING NERFED! 4 Card Changes Coming May 22
In a blog post from Blizzard this afternoon, they have announced changes to Rogue cards and Archivist Elysiana. The patch comes out May 22.
- EVIL Miscreant - Now has 4 Health (Down from 5)
- Raiding Party - Now costs 4 Mana (Up from 3)
- Preparation - Next spell cast cost is now reduced by 2 (Down from 3)
- Archivist Elysiana - Now costs 9 Mana (Up from 8)
Quote from BlizzardAfter evaluating game data and working through internal and external feedback on the most popular decks currently in the meta, we’re looking to address the power level and overall pervasiveness of Rogue decks, alongside a specific interaction with Archivist Elysiana. Look for these changes in an update slated for May 22.
We chose to focus primarily on Rogue in this update due to seeing the meta stabilize around the class’s most popular decks. Currently, if you want to build a deck that is strong against Rogue, you have just one reasonable option: Warrior. If you compare Rogue to Warrior, however, you’ll find that the latter class has a wide variety of good and bad matchups, which makes it unlikely that it’ll overtake Rogue in popularity in the current meta.
While we recognize that there are other powerful and popular decks (like Token Druid, Conjurer Mage, and Mech Hunter), we decided to not address them in this update because they all have varied matchups. If any of these decks were to emerge as the new prominent strategy, there are plenty of decks available to combat them, which would allow the meta to continue shifting.
As always, we’ll be evaluating the results of these changes over the coming weeks and look forward to your feedback. Read on for details on these changes, our thought process around them, and our goals for each of the cards we adjusted.
- EVIL Miscreant - Now has 4 Health. (Down from 5)
- EVIL Miscreant is meant to be a value-generating card that creates future swing turns, but having 5 Health on this minion means Rogue players sacrifice very little to set up those turns. We expect that EVIL Miscreant will continue to be a great option for Rogue decks, just at a power level that is more in line with other available cards.
- Raiding Party – Now costs 4 mana. (Up from 3)
- Rogue already excels at drawing cards, so having another powerful option that offers consistent results has resulted in Rogue games that play out a little too similarly than we think is fun. We’re making this change to better represent the power level of drawing from a very specific subset of cards.
- Preparation – Now reads: The next spell you cast this turn costs (2) less.
- All changes we make to the Basic and Classic sets are aimed at ensuring Hearthstone’s long-term health. Preparation is currently seen as such a powerful card that it appears in nearly all Rogue deck archetypes. That said, the change we’ve landed on is a small one. While we do want the card’s power to decrease, we also think it’s important for Preparation to remain a reasonable option, since it fits the Rogue class fantasy so well.
- Preparation is regularly used to reduce the cost of cards like Sap or Eviscerate, and those interactions will remain unchanged. Reducing the cost of your next spell by 2 as opposed to 3 opens our design options up a little more to create higher cost Rogue spells without having to balance so closely around the assumption that they’ll be cast alongside Preparation.
- Archivist Elysiana – Now costs 9 mana. (Up from 8)
- Our goal here was to preserve the feeling and power level of Archivist Elysiana when it comes to general use, while making much more difficult to play her multiple times in the same game. Shaman will still be able to replay Elysiana through Shudderwock, but this is not as common or problematic as what we’ve seen in control Warrior decks. Now, playing Elysiana alongside cards like Baleful Banker or Youthful Brewmaster should be a less consistent strategy.
Can someone explain me, how is Elysiana fix good? It looks to me that it is now coin flip, who will get the coin and will win on fatigue. It is not the most reliable strategy, but in control deck you can always sacrifice 1 card in order to have some technical card (either oozes, harison, brewmaster, silence and etc... depends on meta).
would you really run a brew master on the off chance that it is against another control deck and you happen to be going first? probably not, like you said, its a coin flip. so you would probably not want to give up a card slot just so you can maybe expand your deck.
Well the point is, there is no problem with elysiana on 10. There MIGHT be a problem with elysiana on 9. brewmaster isn‘t the worst card with devastator and stuff anyway. Warrior might still run it and now its a coin gamble which is overall bad.
i wouldn't consider it bad if that were to happen. but if you end up in a warrior mirror where both players play ellysiana, chances are, both those players like drawn out games. ellysiana on 10 doesn't allow for 50 card games, but they do at 9 but much less consistently. Just because people got bored of warriors bouncing her every game, doesn't mean that should never happen
Brewmaster is a good card in warrior now. You can play two times devastator for 10 mana. It is not worst than ooze against not weapon class and many carry it. Dynomatic bot is as well good with devastator eventually. And the bonus come in mirrors in which you have advantage. Brewmaster is not card, which is absolutely useless if you dont have coin. Especially in control deck. You have enough place for technical cards there.
Well rogue still has mira's + nomi, still is broken but it won't be so oppresive in the early game. Nice nerfs.
I feel for Rogue players as a Druid player. The prep nerf is similar to the wild growth nerf where varies plays are now affected and will never feel the same again. 😥
Man, with all these nerfs since the beginning of HS, I wish there was mode where we can play it unnerfed, you know. Like in TCGs, even if there is a banlist, players can still play their favourite ban decks/cards for fun. However, in HS, that is not possible. Once nerfed, either the deck is gone or never the same..😣
I also want a un-nerfed card mode.
Elys have no difference on mana 9, only use for her is dont get fatigue, 8 or 9 mana is the same shit, blizzard need nerf the hero card kaboom wtf
Is not the same shit, without coin now you cant play her with brewmaster or banker
It does matter, since you cant return it on the same turn if it costs 9 mana.
Honestly this is an issue only vs control shaman. There is absolutely no need to bounce her vs any other deck. The problem is the OP hero card and it is still unsolved
maybe if rogue is not half the ladder you can cut ooze on your deck and make your matchup with warrior much better. you can beat warrior with a midrange or control deck, rogue though is another beast
And that's it for warrior? LOL
I've just came out of the disgusting Game of Thrones final episode and the first new i've saw is getting a nerf on Preparation ...
Jeez man.
God, can you?..
Fuck you all.
Good rogue nerfs, but Elysiana to 9 is... kinda pointless? I don't often find myself in a hotly contested matchup vs warrior or shaman where Elysiana bounces are what beats me. Usually, they are either dead or way ahead of me.
This was definitely a nerf for the tournament scene (which - to be clear - I appreciate the gesture).
Now we see if hunter, warlock, and murlocs shaman can fill in where rogue will lack, now that tempo just got slowed down and Miscreant isn't thicc.
Next nerf should include Magic Carpet. If zoo takes off, that card is WAY too beefy for a 3-drop.
No changes for big priest... still a rng festival aggro vs priest card draw in wild -.-
They wont give away free dust for "low life" wild playèrs like us
Well at least they seem to acknowledge that 4 12 drops on turn 5 may be quite difficult to handle.
so nerfing rogue means buffing Wild Big Priest. well played Blizzard well played
