The Dalaran Heist - Adventure Launches May 16
Blizzard has announced new details on the upcoming Great Dalaran Heist adventure.
- Launches May 16!
- Wings cost 700 gold each, first is free. Whole adventure should be $20 USD.
- Like Dungeon Run and Monster Hunt in format but loads of more content / features.
- Challenge defenders of Dalaran that sit between you and your job.
- The second chapter can be purchased right away after completing the free first chapter.
- The chapters after 1 & 2 will be unlocked on a weekly basis.
- Hero Powers get unlocked through mini-quests such as Freeze 30 minions or Draw 100 cards.
- You can remove cards from your deck at a Dalaran Tavern during your run as well as modify your deck with special gold coins.
- Each wing has a special passive effect active. Anomaly mode makes these randomized.
Next week, on May 14 & 15, there will be a special event where some pros get to play the adventure early.

12 packs, 3 packs are free
With past adventures, could you purchase them with gold until they rotated out? I'm very behind on solo content, and don't plan on purchasing this until I catch up.
yes
Yes you could. I think it was about the same prize, 700-800 per wing. The content/rewards were exactly the same for money and gold, no extra stuff for paying with real money like now.
Where did it say that you don't get everything if you buy all the wings with gold? If so, what the fuck Blizzard? But I want to verify that info for myself.
Blizzard is double dipping with their content this is nothing but a DLC add-on, they spaced them even tho it should have been with the initial release or very quickly after so now they can recharge customers. Blizzard is becoming more like EA everyday.
I’m thinking this is a good value for the dust since I don’t care about the golden cards or the legendary
still better than 4 months with nothing
So as a F2P player I'll only need to invest 2800 Gold (which can easily be farmed in <1 month) in order to receive: plenty of hours of new content and some brand new game modes, 15 Rise of Shadow Packs, a very fun and - fingers crossed - playable Golden Legendary and up to 2 new card backs! That's some amazing value right there. Even if you have 0 Gold right now, it's still 1 month until the final Chapter unlocks so no one is left behind. Thumbs up, great job Blizzard!
Edit: I wasn't even aware the rewards would also include a Golden Classic Pack, but thanks for pointing this out! That's even more amazing value now.
I'm not sure, but I think there is also a golden pack after you beat all 5 wings.
Yeah, apparently there's a Golden Classic Pack as a reward at the end too. Pretty nice!
That Legendary is something Whizbang-esque, so I doubt it will be constructed viable but it sure as heck must be fun
I'm sympathetic to those who are saying it would be nicer to play without spoilers. Of course you can not watch the "pro" streamers, though it does feel a little unfair and of course stuff gets posted in places so you might want to avoid them. I get that Blizzard wants to promote it though.
Also agree with fellow f2pers in that of course you can save up for the wings like previous adventures, but this is the first time that one has been alongside an expansion which will have depleted most of many of our gold reserves already and now need to start building up for the new expac. Grateful for the free initial wing though, and will enjoy the others vicariously through streamer youtube videos :)
Perhaps if this adventure had been released along with the expansion the gold premium being paid for the 15 packs would have been a more agreeable use of precious gold. Bit late by the time the last wing is released for many. Simultaneous sounds better for this content.
Still new content is new content and hope those that are buying it enjoy. Blizzard had to make money to keep the game going - I just miss the old expac, adventure, expac cycle :) :)
Sorry but this is just unfair for F2P players. I will explain it why.
You have the a "Free to download game" who relies on sellings packs to earn money. Sure, thats totally fine and its understandable. People like to collect or try the competitive mode. It gets hard for F2P to build a full reliable deck but you can do it.
Now, this is the part that gets rediculous! They are actually selling a SINGLE PLAYER EXPERIENCE for money! A single player mode who doesn't benefit anything for the online mode. But this is not the only problem! For you to actually buy the chapters, as a f2p, you will have to use almost 3000 (didn't do the math). Hard earning gold that you will have to either save for the next expansion or to buy a lousy single player mode. You either get stuck and don't get any packs (besides the ones they give) or don't have fun to this single player mode.
Back then you had the solo adventure but they acted like expansions. So it's understandable why you could purchase it with money and/or gold. Because you would have no loss. But in this case you will have since the features that you get are not usable on online mode. So its really stupid.
And by the way, im not f2p. Ive bought plenty of expansions. I just find a cash grab move.
Did you forget that players can also get GOLDEN Zayle which is basically a better Whizzbang. Can you explain how that is UNFAIR for F2P ? If I was still F2P, I'd be creamin my pants over this.
i am a f2p, the solution is to save gold for occasions like this. if you play daily you shouldnt have a problem buying packs when a new expansion comes out + gold for events such as this one
and the fact that blizzard gives us a free golden legendary that creates multiples decks for you to play shows that they do care about f2p players
But it is still technically free to play. You can earn gold in game and buy it if you want or you save it for packs of the next expansion or whatever. Where you set your priority, and if the PvE is worth it to you depends entirely on you. I think it's pretty unfair to blame Blizzard for giving you a choice.
Especially since,, like you said, the single player gives (inherently and unlike previous adventures) zero competitive advantage
Businesses need to make money. It's not just about cash grabs. In order for there to be new content games need ways to monetize. This is still very accessible to free to play players.
You're not thinking this through very well.
Indeed it`s a single player experience. So why should you get an advantage towards everyone who isn`t willing to buy it?
They way you are talking, it nearly seems as if you`d think that handling single player content the way Naxx/League/Kara did, would be much more fair for F2p players or anyone in general who isn`t willing to spend money for it. But you realize that back then they hid a bunch of exclusive cards behind a paywall whereas now its just an optional experience with no real backlash to the people who aren`t willing or simply aren`t interested in spending money for it.
Honestly this is kinda lame. If they wanted to give us this type of solo content again they should have done like they did with Naxx, BRM, and Kara before and let us get a mini set of new cards. That would be perfect for mixing things up during the boring downtime between new set launches. But whatever at least we get packs.
