Rise of Shadows Card Nerfs - What Do Pros Want To See Smacked?
IGN's Cam Shea got a chance to speak with a few of Hearthstone's pros at this past weekend's HCT World Championship and talked about card nerfs. Below you'll find our recap and you can read their thoughts it full here.
Card nerfs have been a very popular community topic post expansion launch, as they always are, though could it be different this time around? Here's what pros had to say about the Rise of Shadows set and any cards they think should get hit with the nerf bat.
- Ike thinks the meta hasn't fully progressed yet due to "sixteen of the best players ... [not] sharing anything"
- Justsaiyan says Dr. Boom, Mad Genius is a problem. Everyone is playing Warrior which means long games, he feels like not even playing mirrors. Boom is strong due to the DK rotation.
- Bunnyhoppor thinks Rogue is too strong. He also has this to say:
- Rogue opposition needs to have an answer for Waggle Pick or Raiding Party.
- Edwin VanCleef should be removed. He proposes moving Edwin to the Hall of Fame and making Preparation's effect a 2-cost reduction.
- Magic Carpet is not an issue right now but could be if Rogue gets nerfed.
- Possibly need to do something about Dr. Boom, Mad Genius because it might be healthy for player sentiment.
- Wants to see changes before Hearthstone Grandmasters begins as he doesn't want to see everyone only playing Rogue and Warrior.
- Hunterace thinks the biggest problem is EVIL Miscreant due to the Rogue pool being very strong. Bump the cost up to 4.
Proposed Nerf Targets
Some of these are conditionally, though they certainly echo community thoughts.
Your Thoughts
Are there any cards you think need to be hit with a nerf after these past few weeks of playing Rise of Shadows? Let us know down below.
Personally, I'm quite amazed Magic Carpet was even printed and will continue to quite enjoy the shenanigans in Zoolock while I still can. Increasing the cost seems like the most viable way to deal with it to keep the effect intact.
I also think that Augmented Elekk gives Warrior way too much power. Increasing its cost so it can remain a viable option for getting onto the field later in the game seems acceptable.
How about providing a compelling argument as to why the cards on your list should/shouldn't be nerfed?
If blizzard nerfs rogue they actually nerf warrior too :)
They Wanna nerf DrBoom in Roguestone while Rexxar hasn't been nerfed in Hunterstone ???
Nerf sap and prep
Edwin is not a problem, it isnt that strong most classes have removal for it, or sillence. And it is only a problem in current meta cause of evil minstrel and waglepick southsee deckhand , preparation could be a target for nerf.
It was expected that remaining hero card will be powerfull after rotation. But to say that warrior is a problem class when 1.7 milion games where registered last week as token druid (acording to hsreplay statistics) and bomb warrior in 2 nd place with only 400k.
If you add ALL the 2nd to 15th most used decks then you get to the number of 1.7 milion that druid has.
If you wanted long games and play control warrior it was your choice. Yes you will get mirror matches it was also part of the choice you made, no nerf needed to its hero card
I really don't understand why people hate Dr Boom.
He is a Hero Card so he is supposed to be OP.
Before the rotation he wasn't even in top 3 most powerful Hero Cards.
What we need is for other classes to get new hero cards as well.
Rogues core set (basic and classic) is the real reason rogue is always powerful. No mater how weak their expansion cards appear to be they always find a way into the meta and tournament lineups. Cards like Preparation, Backstab, Edwin VanCleef, Shadowstep, Fan of Knives, Sprint and Eviscerate have been too long a staple of rogue even if not all of these are currently used in the same/top deck they do rotate in and out of either the tempo or miracle archetype with alarming frequency. Other classes have seen their core cards nerfed or HoF but rogue has barely been touched since conceal HoF and blade flurry nerf. I would start with rogues core set first before expansion cards
I
My opinions on Warrior -
think warrior is super strong with there generation of cards. I think its way to much for 1 class.. 2 omega assemblies, 2 dragon roar, the DK discover a mech.. and Elysiana... that's 10+ new cards that were never in your deck to start... tone down the free cards for warrior or Change Dr Boom DK - give your mechs rush for next turn only.
My opinions on Rogue-
Change prep that's the problem... it allows to make super crazy Edwin's very early in the game and also allowing card draw with cards like raiding party on turn 0 to refill after you spent all your cards making the Edwin. If this isnt it then look Myras and Waggle Pick which can also be potential problems.
In my games I feel like its play Myras and next turn have lethal.. Every.Single.Game. For waggle pick.. well that card with leeroy is just stupid. Leeroy + waggle hit to face + leeroy + all the other rogue bs..
Evil Miscreant I dont have a problem dealing with nor do I see a problem with it. Other than it being annoying that Rogue will always have combo activators with the little 1/1 lackey's. I think that adding more lackeys that are bad will be enough to curb evil miscreant. All the lackeys now are actually pretty good considering.. we need at least 1 or 2 bad ones
The Carpet.. eh.. I dont see much of it on ladder but, it can be a future problem if anything lower its health by 1
0 Cost Spells for Rogue and Priest
Board refill twinspells like Conjurer's Calling and the token druid 8 mana spell
All "hero cards" that replace your hero, gives armor and changes your hero power
I think Edwin isn't really the problem, cause no one runs silence or hard removeal he became really strong.
IMO It's the Waggle Pick that's overpowered, not the VanCleef and EVIL Miscreant.
EVIL Miscreant is OP: even the developers admitted it during the pre-release stream
If youcan trigger the combo it's really OP. Just like with SI7. The drawback is that you can't just play it at turn 3. However, with prep, backstab and other 0 mana spells this drawback is relatively small.
I dont understand why people dont have a problem with rogue. Its clearly the best deck in the meta rn and it only loses to warrior. 80% of the opponents i face are rogues. Maybe people love abusing n1 meta decks that destroy everything
If 80% of your opponents are rogue you really should play control warrior and enjoy your grind ;)
Until you're stuck in a 45 minute mirror match.
Couldn't they just not nerf anything please :(
At a maximum I could see the waggle pick to have one less attack, but if they nerf prep or edwin, that would be just so demotivating...
Someone who I can agree with. The nerfs were never the solution, is the stupid amount of useless cards. If some cards were buffed, that would be cool.
And the amount of fun that last brawl provided, with many cards pre nerf, can't they create a wild mode like that?
Its funny when nobody talks about fountain..... He used four times at one game this card against me.... how can i defeat him??? wtf? and you are talking about OP rogue?
From my point of view, if they nerf tempo rogue up to a point were it is not playable anymore, mech hunter will arise as the new problem ... it is currently really strong but lacks speed to beat rogue ... I think they should wiggle pack to 3 attack so the explosive dread corsair is not playable together in turn 4 or with coin and prep at 3
