Rise of Shadows Card Nerfs - What Do Pros Want To See Smacked?
IGN's Cam Shea got a chance to speak with a few of Hearthstone's pros at this past weekend's HCT World Championship and talked about card nerfs. Below you'll find our recap and you can read their thoughts it full here.
Card nerfs have been a very popular community topic post expansion launch, as they always are, though could it be different this time around? Here's what pros had to say about the Rise of Shadows set and any cards they think should get hit with the nerf bat.
- Ike thinks the meta hasn't fully progressed yet due to "sixteen of the best players ... [not] sharing anything"
- Justsaiyan says Dr. Boom, Mad Genius is a problem. Everyone is playing Warrior which means long games, he feels like not even playing mirrors. Boom is strong due to the DK rotation.
- Bunnyhoppor thinks Rogue is too strong. He also has this to say:
- Rogue opposition needs to have an answer for Waggle Pick or Raiding Party.
- Edwin VanCleef should be removed. He proposes moving Edwin to the Hall of Fame and making Preparation's effect a 2-cost reduction.
- Magic Carpet is not an issue right now but could be if Rogue gets nerfed.
- Possibly need to do something about Dr. Boom, Mad Genius because it might be healthy for player sentiment.
- Wants to see changes before Hearthstone Grandmasters begins as he doesn't want to see everyone only playing Rogue and Warrior.
- Hunterace thinks the biggest problem is EVIL Miscreant due to the Rogue pool being very strong. Bump the cost up to 4.
Proposed Nerf Targets
Some of these are conditionally, though they certainly echo community thoughts.
Your Thoughts
Are there any cards you think need to be hit with a nerf after these past few weeks of playing Rise of Shadows? Let us know down below.
Personally, I'm quite amazed Magic Carpet was even printed and will continue to quite enjoy the shenanigans in Zoolock while I still can. Increasing the cost seems like the most viable way to deal with it to keep the effect intact.
I also think that Augmented Elekk gives Warrior way too much power. Increasing its cost so it can remain a viable option for getting onto the field later in the game seems acceptable.
Lol either nerf all playable hero cards or none!
If the nerf dr. Boom, they should nerf Haghata and Zuljin aswell!
Currently midrange hunter is pretty strong, mech hunter is strong...
Go ahead nerf warrior and rogue - then ill be reading the same comments from the same people only they will whine about hunter!
Personally I think that Preparation should be nerfed to cost 1 mana, its just to powerful to have this early prep into Raiding Party. Omega Defender also needs a nerf because it provides warriors an endless amounts of removal with the Dr Boom hero, the best nerf is to remove the mech tag. Magic Carpet could use a small health nerf by either 1 or 2. Edwin and Evil Miscreant are fine imo.
Nobody is talking about a nerf of Dread Corsair. So why not just nerf it to a 5 Mana 2/2? ;-P I would trust Blizzard to do so.
EDIT: For all of you not understanding what sarcasm is: This post is!
Ehm... what?
As you may could see, this post was a sarcastically one. Just look at the smiley ( ;-P ) Jesus guys, you always take everything so serious. I just can do facepalm cause of your reactions.
I genuinely didn't see the smile: I admit you Jebaited me lol
Yeah i think we should remove the 2 most iconic cards in the rogue class because waggle pick and raiding party are too strong. Nice approach
Well... it is exactly what Blizzard did to Druid.
While I don't agree with Edwin VanCleef being touched in any way, you have to consider that even many Rogue players stated that Preparation is a bane for the class itself: it is indeed a very strong card, but it keeps Valeera away from having reasonably costed spells (Cannon Barrage is a clear example)
Tbh, the only issue with Dr.Boom’s power is giving ALL mechs rush. If the battlecry would be ALL minions have rush that would be ok since it benefits the opponent and it could compensate with the HPs.
Waggle pick should have 3 attack so Dread corsair eont cost 0 mana anymore. And raiding party should be 4 mana. In my opinion Prep and Edwin are fin as they are. Most lf the times you will get an 8/8 edwin in turn 3 while mages can do pretty much the same with Mountain giant.
Carpet should hve 4 or 5 health and that would be ok.
I HAD TO DO IT.
They should change Dr. Boom to "your mechs have charge for the rest of the game" ... so games will be shorter ;-)
(joke ... i think they should remove rush from Dr. Boom an he is still fine)
Well if they remove the Rush aspect I think they should compensate with something, like giving him a battlecry other than just gaining 7 armor.
Maybe summon 5 Boom Bots or something.
5 boom bots? even 2 would be op
2 would be pointless, 5 would have an impact for sure...maybe too much...idk...4 then....3 also seems too inconsequential imo.
If preparation gets nerfed, then that's also an indirect nerf to edwin already.
though, t.b.h., edwin could take a small hit, e.g., making him a base 1/2 or 2/1 would already make quite a huge difference
Specifically agree with these:
Dr. Boom just seems way too strong in this meta.
Edwin is a card that can single handedly win you the game at around turn 3, especially for classes that have very little options to answer a turn 3 8/8 or even worse.
And Preparation just causes too much shenanigans. Many cards like it have been nerfed before, for the same reasons. Preparation's nerf would indirectly also be a nerf to Edwin.
???
IGN interviewed the participants at the World Championships, and asked them relevant questions about the post-tournament meta-game. It doesn't require "balls" to criticize such an interview - it requires tremendous stupidity, and a dishonest affectation of outrage. They were perfectly appropriate and completely innocuous questions, and you know that the answers weren't personal attacks directed at you.
Christ. The internet won't break if you stop pretending to be upset every time you post on social media.
Raiding Party: 4 mana
Prep: 2 mana discount
EVIL Miscreant: 4 mana
Omega Devestator: 5 mana, remove mech tag
Archivist Elysiana: 9 mana
Conjurer's Calling: 4 mana
Power of the Wild: 3 mana
Soul of the Forest: 5 mana
Fireworks Tech: 3 mana
Spider Bomb: 4 mana
Nine Lives: 4 mana
Wow, you really want to ruin the whole game.
Also
That's not a nerf for a card that is played when your deck is empty vs control.
