You don't need lots of spells to make this broken. How hard is it to use the coin or just straight up 2 spells ??? Just generating a couple of spells is enough to make this one the best Arena mage cards you can get.
You realize it's spells cast this TURN not this GAME ?
Just so people realize how broken this card is Shimmering Tempest has a Arena rating of 127 which is in the higher end of the ''Good'' spectrum. Mana Cyclone has extra +1 health, the effect is immediate not a Deathrattle like Tempest and you can generate multiple cards. Even if you just pull 2 of this that is absolutely insane for a 2 drop. Granted you can't play this on 2 mana like you can Tempest but that's literally the only downside. The Arena power level of this card will be one of the best in the game.
You have like 5-6 spells in an arena Mage deck on average and most of those tend to be high in mana cost (Blast Wave, Flamestrike, Blizzard e.g.). Shimmering Tempest can be dropped on curve, this cannot and the situations where you can combine this card with more than one spell should be very rare unless you're saving the coin. Shimmering Tempest imo is much better than this as it is not a conditional card and we know that conditional cards do not perform that well in arena for the most part. Mana Cyclone I'd guess is more around average power level.
"Granted you can't play this on 2 mana like you can Tempest but that's literally the only downside."
That's a very significant downside for arena...
What YOU don't realize is that playing 2 spells in the same turn is rather rare, but having in addition an extra 2 mana to spend is even rarer. At turn 2 you use a frostbolt, at turn 6 a blizzard, turn 7 flamestrike... How often do you play on turn 6 two 2-mana spells that are efficient for the turn + you have the cyclone in your hand that you can FINALLY play to get value out of it.
Shimmering is way way better in almost every situation.
Rarity no longer has an impact in the appearance rate of cards in arena.
isnt it quite busted in wild now for exodia mage ?
Exodia mage has trouble drawing their combo- the limiting factor isn’t really the quest. But I can see a “value quest” mage where you use a lot of cheap elementals and follow up with a Cauldron Elemental or two to secure a less cheeky kill.
I agree that this card will help mage's quest. However, those types of decks aren't top tier at this point so I am not too worried. I am glad that there is more support for that quest... At the end of the day, the more variety of decks played in wild the healthier of a meta it will be- This card will help with that.
With this and Ray of Frost, they seem to be pushing "small spell mage." Now the nerf to Mana Wyrm makes much more sense.
You're saying that as if Mana Wyrm was a balanced card to begin with.
You use this the same way people did with Cabalist's Tome often in the Mid/Late or Late game as a value generator. By the time a person is in that stage of the game they have cast at least 5 spells. Or a person can save this until they have almost empty hand to refill entire hand. Or extreme aggro mage that dumps all spells and gets a whole hand of random ones back. This card will be the engine to make it work. Aggro Mage in Wild was already a decent deck, now it will be stupid levels since that's what they do. Unload face spells.
So many hate on this article dude, what happened?, it's because it say "RANDOM Mage spell" rigth?
-deleted- (didn‘t see „this turn“)
but, to be consistently good in an agro deck, you need this on your opening hand, have a way to draw a lot, and, have all the mana you need to play a lot of spells and this card in the same turn, yeah sourcerers aprentice it's a good way, but, or you play all in a later tur, or you risk playing her on turn 2 hoping to not be killed, then you span spells, but, you have to remember not all mage spells are direct damage and a lot are just boardclears that you probably will have filling your hand with any use.
Other thing is that in an agro deck, most of the time this will be your topdeck on an empity hand, that means a really weak turn.
If this becomes a potent agro tool only the poll of spells will determinate it, and alot of mage spells don't deal face damage Cinderstorm the only one printed on the year of the raven that can go face.
I know classic and basic spells are good, but most of the spells are reactive tools that affects or targets only minions, and if the following expansions keep this direction here tempo mage can't give this card an appropiate use.
I see this more like a value card on a slower deck, so i can accept the control/midrange part, but i can't see this in aggro unless mage can consistenly break the game on turn 1-3 with this, and just getting direct damage and counterspells from this.
shet, i wrote my comment and after saw your edit
Has value. It will see play imo, but idk this doesnt have to be epic imo.
it needs to be epic cause of arena
I have the perfect name for this card. Recyclone!
RANDOM RANDOM RANDOM RANDOM. When are we going to have a meta where skill takes precedence? This game will never be taken serious as a E-Sport and people will continue to leave as long as this continues, after years it's getting tiresome and i know am far from the only one that feels this way.
As for the card, just more of the same...Play to win...No skill...Just drop and if you hit the RNG you're laughing. This will be pure cancer especially for Arena, any sort of skillful match that might have been happening in a close game will once again be ruined when this gets top decked drawing 2-6 spells.
