New Card Revealed - Swampqueen Hagatha
A new shaman legendary has been revealed.
Upon playing this card, you will receive two discover interfaces containing Shaman spells. Choose one from each selection and then when you play the generated minion that was added to your hand, it will also play those spells! You get to choose the targets for the cast spells.
It looks like a common spell card, but nope, it's actually a legendary creature. The art is terrible.
As for the mechanics, it believe it's a slow 3 for 1, which may make it too clunky to keep up with aggro.
I don't think this is as strong as some people believe it is. The biggest issue being that you're playing 7 mana to have no impact on the board other than to play a 5/5. Really the only situation where you may get away with that is against a control deck, against an aggro or midrange deck it's simply too much a loss in tempo.
Sure, the horror you get to play the next turn could make an impact, but it's situational based on the board and the selection of spells you're given. There are no guarantees.
People have mentioned Kazakus. With him you could play him on turn 5, pick a one mana spells and play that on the same turn for immediate value, making an impact on the current board state.
Personally I don't think this card will see much play in the top ranks.
TLDR version. 12 mana over 2 turns for 2 understated minions is too slow, especially when you're not guaranteed to be offered the ideal spells to change the board state.
My opinion only. And possibly wrong.
I can already hear the tears of people crying out to nerf it. Seems like a good card... but sadly it will be nerfed, 100% guaranteed.
People are forgoting the rotation. A lot of tempo and mana cheats will be rotated. Aggros less agressive and shaman will probably gain more control cards (im pretty sure the 5 mana aoe spoilers the control package that shaman will get). Also, the meta isnt 100% aggro and everybody knows that the higher ranks you get ,less aggros you see.
Single-use Build-a-Beast for Shaman. Pretty weak, I think. No infinite value as for Rexxar.
I see it being played. Its good. I always hear "its a ___ do nothing turn" as a write off. How many turns in hearthstone have you hero powered and passed?
I really hope Blizzard has plans to make 'Teach' a possible keyword in the future. Lots of fun potential with giving minions customizable Battlecries.
Additional details:
You Discover two spells, then the Horror gains them as a Battlecry ability.
Twitter video shows you get to choose the target for the Horror token's Battlecry.
As confirmed by Peter Whalen, your 1st choice will be completely random from the full pool of Shaman spells, but your 2nd choice will be only non-targettable spells (i.e. Bloodlust, Feral Spirit, Forked Lightning) if your 1st choice was a targetable spell (i.e. Lava Burst, Ancestral Spirit, Earthen Might).
Do you Overload normally ?
Yes
Saman spells tend to be a bit all over the place in terms of value, but now is a great time to introduce Swampqueen Hagatha. All of the three spells Shaman got in Knights of the Frozen Throne were bad, and there were a couple of others in rotating sets (I'm thinking of Tidal Surge in Un'goro and Primal Talismans in K&C, but Volcano and Lesser Sapphire Spellstone are both situationally weak.)
On the other hand, the Classic Shaman spells all make for great battlecries (except maybe Ancestral Spirit), about half of the Basic spells are great, and having access to cards like Rain of Toads or Eureka! or Elementary Reaction make this 5 mana 5/5 an excellent value play.
If you have the time to play Swampqueen Hagatha, she's going to be a very powerful card. Of course, a 7 mana 5/5 is very bad tempo, so we'll have to see how fast the meta is before making a final determination. She's clearly a great in a Control heavy meta, and if Shaman gets one or two good AOEs, maybe she'll even be playable in a midrange meta. She's probably a little too slow for an Aggro-heavy meta, but that's okay.
I dunno, 7 mana do nothing on the board is too much tempo loss. And the two spells aren’t guaranteed to affect the board either. For 12 mana, you’d hope for more than two 5/5s and some hopeful RNG. Woecleaver was a joke and while this isn’t at that level, you could make the argument it isn’t that far off.
One of those cards that will see play if the support cards and the meta are right for it. Definitely a cool card, and I like it from a design standpoint. Just not sure how much play it will see. I’d feel a lot better if it was six or five mana with smaller bodies.
Oh wait it won't work.
Cool card
I've put together a pretty decent rotation-proof shaman deck. Would love to throw this into the mix!
At least she rhymes this time.
7 mana do nothing is pretty slow. This card will heavily depend on if Shamans can survive aggro.
How many times have you hero powered and passed? People always say this to write cards off.
and how many times have you won the game after hero powering and pass against anything that is not a fatigue deck ?
Try hero powering and passing with 2 enemy huffers hitting your face for 8 damage a turn.
I am not writing this card off but thats the reality. Shamans are losing Volcano and Healing Rain, good control cards. So we need to see the whole set to determine if this card is worth carfting or not.
