Hearthstone Specialist - The New Competitive Format for 2019
A new format has been announced for Competitive Hearthstone! The Conquest Format is being replaced by Specialist this year, and brings a form of side-board Hearthstone.
Blizzard says they are excited to see how it performs and that they are eager to implement community feedback as needed. Here's how it works.
- Players bring three 30 card decks to bring to the tournament.
- All decks must be from the same class.
- The decks are designated as Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary.
- The Primary is your main deck that you are bringing to the tournament.
- The Secondary and Tertiary decks must have 25 cards found in the Primary deck, with the remaining 5 being your choice.
- For the first game, both players must use their Primary deck.
- In following games you are free to choose your Secondary or Tertiary decks, or continue using the Primary.
- Your opponent will not know which you choose.
The format begins post-world championship.
This 100% (except the insult theres no need for that)
I hope this signals that they are close to giving us regular players a tournament mode.
I love the idea, but why only 1 class ?
This will probably mean watching mirrors the whole tournament.
they are all from the same class, because the idea is that you are editing your deck, not getting a whole new one. that is also why 25 cards from your second deck have to be from your main deck.
So basically best of 3 using 5 cards from your side-deck. I like it. But that means that they will have to balance classes a lot more, or tournaments will just consist in mirror matches all the time.
It is not a bad idea to have 3 decks variance for every deck. But why they run away from having 4 different classes and every time before the match to choose the variance of the deck. This will be boring as hell to have mirrors all the times. So we can literally have for example tournament only from druids. Or imagine Control Warrior vs Control warrior 3 hours match. Of course lets see what it will be, but sounds really strange.
A shabby copy of sideboard in MTG.
Why is this downvoted, it's pretty much what it is, a bad copy of Bo3 MTG just because of Blizzard's inability to change Hearthstone fundamentally ie its client. Still a move in the right direction though.
OK, looking at the other comments I see that some people are excited, compare this to MTG, and describe as a good step.
But honestly, not being so familiar with other card games, I cannot imagine a more boring idea for a tournament. Could this be more of a rock–paper–scissors format if it tried? I repeat, I am NOT so familiar with the competitive scene, so could someone please explain to me why this is interesting?
The hearthstone devs be like "Hey our game is dyeing, we better focus on the tournament scene!" SMH
This is the most absurd comment, and there are SO MANY of you making it. They're not focusing on the tournament meta, man - they HAVE TO announce the rules each year to kick off the pro scene. They've done this every year that there's been support for Hearthstone esports, and they'll continue to. If you don't care about the tournament scene, just skip this article! And calm down. Yeesh.
And I am still waiting for tournament mode....
Such a mode whould be way too confusing for casual players. kappa
ok wow you can play a mirror matches with 6 decks which are almost the same... so much fun
Boring af, this is the nail in the coffin....
Please stop being fucking retarded. This is literally the closest hearthstone can do to an implementation of a sideboard, which is the competitive format that has worked for Magic: the Gathering for close to 25 years and firmly and utterly solidified it as the single most popular and longstanding TCG of all time.
Oh well just a sideboard but worst
So I'm a little confused. Is this an actual game mode for everyone to play when they log in? Or is this just for the competitive scene?
Just for competitive scene.
So disappointing.
