Dean Ayala Asks: What Would Get You Back Into Hearthstone?
Hearthstone's Dean "Iksar" Ayala had a question for those that used to main Hearthstone as a game but no longer do.
What do they need to do to get you back?
We're actually quite interested in knowing too. With many old Hearthstone players still frequenting our site to see what the game is up to or to chat with old friends, there has to be something the Hearthstone team could do to reel you back in?
Quote from Dean AyalaIf Hearthstone used to be your main game but isn't anymore, what would get you back?
You can still hit legend without net decking. Net decking, for some players, merely reduces the grind to legend, but it is very well possible to hit Legend without copying somebody else.
I completely understand having fun (I play things like Weasel Priest, Spectral Pillager Rogue, Ancient Curse Togwaggle Druid, & Spiteful Mech Mage, for example), but this idea seems more like a welfare legend rank for everyone, which I personally don't understand what the point would be considering the increase in rewards from rank 5 to legend is pretty meaningless.
Hearthstone in general is meant to be played for fun. Ranked is also for fun, but the nature of competition also takes high precedence. Losing ranking is comparable, on a much lower scale, to when players in tourneys get knocked out of a winner bracket or get kicked out of the tournament by their opponent altogether. Not only in real life but in plenty of games (Blizzard created or not) you are supposed to lose something if you don't win. I don't understand this concept of trying to make it so that everyone gets everything without putting adequate time into it. Real life and even just entertainment doesn't represent that reality when competition is concerned. Sometimes you get benched in sports, other times you lose RBG/Arena rating in WoW, and other times still you lose a few stars in Hearthstone.
No kidding. we are not talking about real life or tournament. As my original post said, you still lose stars I don't agree with the trophy for everyone bs. Congrats on playing all you off decks? How can you play all those decks ? Because YOU have all the cards needed.Nobody is going to craft spectral or togwaggle etc.. if only used for a specific deck, and they have saved and saved for 1 legendary or a couple of epics.I'm talking about a mode for these players, not you. Your fun grinding mode would stay intact. Once again there isn't enough space for this. What i'm suggesting is keeping players involved, that is it! What is YOUR answer. Dean is desperate to stop losing players. Almost all of my friends have stopped playing. You and I are playing a dying game. What rank is Hearthstone on twitter right now? It was top 10 everyday last year...take a look. As a player and investor All I'm looking to do is keep people interested at ranks and a mode that shouldn't even matter to you.
If I were to think of something off the top of my head it would be an actual new AND replayable/sustainable format that is different from the old hat ladder you're suggesting. If your goal is to involve players and let them have more fun why then does it make sense to try to pigeonhole such an experience into the same ole grindy ranked experience, just made easier because you don't lose ranking? That's not thinking about player fun long term because once people hit legend then the mode just looks like another version of stale ladder.
A completely separate format where random sets rotate in/out or a format where a certain percentage of cards get voted in/out each month to shake things up (without nerfs/buffs) seem much more appealing.
What do I know though? I've just hit legend, 12 wins in arena, and play serious & meme decks (seeing both sides of the try-hard and carefree fun player sides of the coin). Probably best to listen to players who have only exhausted one type of the game's content or who are strictly only casual or try-hard ;P
What would get my wallet back huh Dean? You miss that money don’t you. Too bad it’s gone buddy and it ain’t coming back. HS can die along with your company and your job. Good luck in life. Blizzard deserves what it gets.
Stop with the freaking RNG on the cards. It ruins the game.
stop manipulating matchmaking and RNG.
Shaman as a non joke class throughout at least a 1 year span.
Where are most of your players level at? 80% (millions) at level 20.....because they can't afford, are way behind in cards, AND are tired of grinding every month with the disadvantage. If the game had space, a mode for casual gamers not to lose a level(not stars) would allow the community to use more diverse decks , experimental and fun decks at all levels.
I'll only say this: a 0.00002% chance shouldn't happen as often as a 0.2% one.
1. No junk legendaries. It's discouraging to spend $50 and pull only one legendary: Duskfallen Aviana or something equally terrible.
2. Make Wild / Old cards free, or almost free. There are tons of old cards that I'd love to play with, but I'm not going to pay $50 for Old Gods packs that I can't get much use from anymore, nor will I use dust that I could use on a current legendary.
3. Each month should have a ladder-style game format that permits 3-4 different, random sets (or challenges-- must contain no spells, etc). A new, unexpected meta each month would be fun. Tavern Brawls rotate out too quickly and lack a competitive ladder.
I played Hearthstone from beta until the launch of Witchwood. This was mostly due to real life issues that have left me with less expendable income than previously. I have grinded to Legend and had fun, but I really like playing a wide variety of decks instead of grinding the same fast deck all day. Since Witchwood and having less money to invest, I fell behind and felt like I was being left out of deck building. I stepped away for awhile and the only reason I don't come back is it will take a LOT of time or money invested to attaining every new card I'd like. Also knowing that expansions like Naxx and League are dead means I'll be forced to front $200+ dollars triennially to have a shot at getting everything I'd like to try.
I ended up selling some of my old MtG cards during this hard time and got nearly double what I payed for some cards years ago. I can't convert my golden Dr. Boom into anything except virtual dust. There is no return on investment for the amount of money required to continue playing.
Im kind of rare in this. Most people dont seem to give a shit. But what I'd really like is an expansion that actually has a proper theme with cards that make sense from the World of Warcraft universe. Knights of the Frozen throne was the last expansion that had a good Warcraft theme and wasn't just silly insane nonsense. Whispers of the Old Gods is another example of a great expansion done well.
I'd also love if you'd stop nerfing the classic set and instead released cards that arent broken in the new expansions. Also buff cards that are utterly useless.
Problems with Hearthstone:
$150+ a year to skim the surface of an expansion
standard rotation = lose $150 a year
Wild doesn't seem fun when whales have all the op cards
I’ve read a good number of these and the ones that stick out to me are:
1) Staleness. New game mode, giving ladder an update, the previously suggested tournament - just something for hardcore players
2) Achievements. Need long term achievable goals - obtaining new hero skins, alt card art, portrait frames or badges or anything. Things past 500 wins.
Exactly something for us hardcore players that don't play in actual tournaments. This whole time the Hearthstone team has the same attitude as At&t or Spectrum toward current customers, they really REALLY want you to start playing the game but once you've been playing for awhile they don't give a !@#$ about you.
Just less legendaries that don't really make an appearence in more than 1 deck. I assume a great number of us want to play several new and fun decks from the expansion but we're always a legendary or 2 behind it and it's not worth crafting since it sees very little or no play outside of that one deck.
I think the rotation is going to help a lot there.
A cool alternative would be to just make more events, give everyone more dust to play with.
remove the loot boxes..
AHAHAHAHAHAH
Hello everyone ,i guess this is my 1st and propably last post. i was curious yeasterday and i said to myself hey hmm i am wondering what is happening with hearthstone. than looked at twitch hmmm not to good the charts.ok...i said i have a look to the site that i was going to for news and ofc some netdecking.. hearthpwn and i saw that post and i said sure why not.i was playing a lot hearthstone one year ago i stoped.i have play a lot of card games some are mtg and ofc a lot a lot alot yugioh i am still playing yugioh.I liked heartstone it was simple and methodical.it was the best game online wise.I was also a free to player, i had to grind grind grind hours upon hours to take gold everyday in order to create decks that i like.Y know y need cards to play several decks to have fun . and ofc i liked a lot arena i was playing a lot arena. But at some point i said to myself it does not worth to lose my hours like this grinding out. Bottom line what i would consider even try again hs is a SUBSCRIPTION MODEL. that containns all the cards at least in standard mode if y still have that.i dont khnow 10-20 euros a month(or even the legenderys only cause y know they are expensive to craft) maybe, and y also keep the freetplay model and what y are been doing up this game. sorry for my english.
10 months in and 2 expansions released and I feel like I have done almost everything. I am kind of bored with what is available to me. The solo content for frozen throne and k & c (dungeon run) and witchwood (monster hunt) and rastakhan's rumble are all too difficult for me to complete, even after making many, many attempts to complete all of them. Every month its the same quests. I have attempted the arena more than once but I have found that I am not very good at it. I find the brawls to be both frustrating and different but I am not sure if the level of fun they offer warrants multiple wins. I find myself wanting to build different decks but the downside to playing different decks (going against the meta) is you will suffer many losses, that is unfortunate but it is what it is and only time will change it. I have made it to rank 20 on the ladder and trust me I am not bragging I know that is common for lots of folks to get at least that far. For the most part I have given up on getting wins and focusing only on completing quests. I have spent a fairly substantial amount of money on the game on card packs and still have nowhere near every card. Where I am going with this is that it would be somewhat easy for me to walk away from the game right now. I think I can hold out until April and I might be rewarded for my patience. What could be done to get me to come back? I am not sure.
