Dean Ayala Asks: What Would Get You Back Into Hearthstone?
Hearthstone's Dean "Iksar" Ayala had a question for those that used to main Hearthstone as a game but no longer do.
What do they need to do to get you back?
We're actually quite interested in knowing too. With many old Hearthstone players still frequenting our site to see what the game is up to or to chat with old friends, there has to be something the Hearthstone team could do to reel you back in?
Quote from Dean AyalaIf Hearthstone used to be your main game but isn't anymore, what would get you back?
Has someone who used to get conaiatently rank 5 / few high peaks in top 200 legend and is not playing anymore.
Those would be the top 4 changes for me to come back and feel a refreshing experience with HS
- Acheivements
- in-game tournament mode (see starcraft2)
- rotating cards from older expansions into the basic cards / classic cards sets.
- more esport / more money into esports. People wont care as much about the comp scene if there isnt a major incentive to get i to it (even though we know most of us will never compete at the top, matters psycologically)
unnerf Jaina portrait
1. Don't wait months to act when a problematic deck/card shows up and make the right balance changes quickly. (eg. resurrect priest atm)
2. Stop obliterating classic and basic cards for the sake of recently released cards and just nerf the ones that create the problem. If you think some classic or basic cards are really unhealthy for the current meta then rotate them to wild temporarily instead of making them unplayable in both formats.
3. Fix the disenchanting values for all rarities. It shouldnt be lower than half of crafting value except maybe for commons.
4. Let us buy wild card packs and adventures with gold. There is people who started late and wants to play wild but not being able buy those is really discouraging.
5. Revert the change on Jaina's portrait to normal (this kind of stuff really annoys me as much as any other thing on this list especially if its one my fav hero portraits) and bring back Tyrande without hiding it behind a paywall!
6. Genn and Baku. Doesn't need an explanation.
There is probably more things I could add but these are the main stuff that came to my mind first.
1) Buff the classic legendary cards that are never used.
2) Make less of the trash cards in your expansions.
3) Make adventure mode a thing again.
4) Make the game easier to approach for F2P players.
5) Weekly quests and community quests (like the one where the community had to deal extreme amounts of damage to the Lich King).
6) Tavern Brawl with exclusive cards. With these cards as rewards to add to your collection.
7) A new gamemode. -Limited mode, 3 or 4 sets avalible to use each month. -Tournament mode. -Custom mode, just to have fun and make your own ruleset.
8) Community created cards. One card each month or something, 5 cards voted up by the community, then blizzard would take the one they like the best, balance it and add it to the game.
9) Better Ranked rewards.
10) (Unpopular opinion) More build around cards like Baku, Genn, Kazakus, the three princes and C'thun.
Achievements
Apart from a brand new meta on the next rotation and a really good expansion with cool new mechanics, I would like to see achievements with some kind of rewards attached to them. I would also love an UI overhaul because it's old, it's ugly and very slow especially on PC.
more expansions, but in much smaller scales. Waiting 4 monts for a change feels like too much, especially nowadays that metas stabilize faster and faster. I'd rather see an expansion every 2 months with smaller number of cards, than a very large one every 4 months.
Other than that, allow us to make custom format lobbies which players can join if they want. Just like in custom lobbies from other blizzard titles. In these lobbies allow us to ban/unban expansions so we can make our own formats, change numbers, etc.
Several major issues.
1. Less One Turn Kills. It isn't fun to be playing and just lose instantly. What's the point? Plus it seems like so many decks could do it.
2. Better balance between classes. It feels like certain classes get all the love and everyone else suffers.
3. More meta. There are very few answers to decks so trying to play against the meta is almost impossible.
smaller and more numerous expansions to avoid stale meta . aka playing against the same 15-20 cards for months.
achievements are always nice
rotating card sets for a new ladder type ( i understand that new players would feel left outside if it repalces standart ) to allow for more fresh experience
new modes to play. like the promised tournament would add a lot of longevity.
new formats would be nice. like at the start of your session where you can ban classes or neutral cards
a 30 second turn mode to try out if it is actually popular or not. by all means keep the tournament with the unending turns
I have some ideas:
1 - About 3 years without any new way to play (wild x standard). We could make something similar a MTG "singleton", or "Pauper", or "Commander" - We need more than a "week tavern"... we don't need a mode that we only play once at week.
2 - U should make online world tourneys. Giving small prizes.
3 - I really love the "naxxramas"/"blackrock" way of get cards from missions. U should give a expansion a year that way.
4 - U should make Classic sets. Changing some cards, so we could use them in "wild" and still have some new cards to play in standard.
People stop playing because there's any news. Just print new cards it's not enough to make people play this card game forever
taip Well i started playing this game around Blackrock mountain adventure and i instantly fell in love with this game, so i started maining it. At one point i even stopped playing this game, but now i just play this game for quests. although i still believe this game has future its not as enjoyable as it used to be. personally my thoughts on bringing back players would be:
• old players have nostalgic feeling about this game. back then when you used to play control matchups ( for example fatique priest vs fatique warrior ) you needed to play smart and use your tools resourceful. the game was really about fair stuff but it was use to be fun. nowadays with all the op stuff hanging around like: dead mans hand; mechathun and unfunny odd and even shit hanging around game doesnt feel fair.
• for me personally adventures was such a great thing in hearthstone. they would bring some strong identity, fun cards and gameplay for fair price ( i know that some people dont like to spend money on this game so there was a choise to buy it for real money but thats too expensive so maybe make 500 gold, idk ). also with less pack expansions it was easier for player to concentrate on his collection and have more cards and decks.
• because of bigger collection that players had the game was more rewarding. user didnt need to get that many gold from playing it to get good collection so he used to have more decks so i suggest give more gold per 3 wins ( maybe increase it by 10 )
• i know it sounds dumb but maybe give us an evergreen mode ( no not wild ) but something nostalgic where cards are unnerfed ( for example grim patron combo deck and force of nature ) but change it every couple months so it feels interesting to keep playing
Expansions released more often and new solo game mode along with more achievements
Everyone starts with a deck only containing cards costing zero mana and the new card Random and keyword
Random: Do a Random effect to a Random player at Random cost dealing Random damage while healing you for Random, add Random "Random" cards to your hand, discard Random "Random" cards, shuffle Random "Random" cards into your deck
That would be awesome!
I can see why you’d think that’d be fun, but that would be just another shitty random tavern brawl that really would not be enjoyable
- Achievements. So many possibilities. In Ranked for winning 100 games with a class and earn some boosters. Collect every common/gold/epic legendary of a set. Give some dust. By reaching full set something else like gold. Reach 12 wins with every class in arena. Earn a hero portrait. Of course you can swap some rewards whatever. And of course there should be a lot of achievements. Lots of them stacking like for 1 win, 10 wins, 50 wins and so on. This would also healthen game economy.
- Solo Adventures. Just sell them additionally to a new set. You receive some boosters and/or other rewards.
- Maybe introducing a new currency like diamonds to purchase missing heroes or some card backs, not all of them. The 3 existing heros to purchase would be in the new shop for stuff to purchase with diamonds. You could buy those diamonds with real money or from time to time a little with season ending or high arena finish. Maybe some hard to earn achievements. Nobody would really care about the pricing because rewards are just cosmetic.
- And even as a wild only player i know standard should rotate every single addon.
Cheaper packs (aka a more customer-friendly economy).
The main problem I have with the game is that it gets repetitive and boring soon after each expansion release. I have quite a collection now, but still would never play with many of those cards as I can always find a better substitute for it. I end up playing with several decks and always facing the top 3 decks in the meta gets old pretty soon. I don't have as much of a motivation to climb the ladder, I find arena incredibly dull and random, and I already cleared all of the single player content. Dungeon run was the one I replayed the most as it was the most fun, but naturally it also has an expiration date with no new features being added. I guess what would make me interested in the game again is having a game mode where I could experiment with a variety of cards without being punished by the strongest cards in the game. I think a game mode where you have certain deck building or matchup restrictions would get me interested again in the game. Right now I'm just collecting gold and waiting for the next expansion.
A "Legacy/Limited" mode that would be 3-6 random groupings of card sets, so it's less than the total insanity of Wild, yet would allow from a unique meta every rotation (keep it from _____ number of months than select a new grouping)
This is a really interesting idea. I would play it from time to time as a third constructed mode.
Thought about that. Image something like this. Every 4 months with a new addon the set will be added to the legacy/limited mode. Furthermore the community would vote which set should be added and which 2 should rotate out.
