Peter Whalen & Dean Ayala Showcase Old Rastakhan's Rumble Card Designs
IGN's Cam Shea had a chance so sit down with Peter Whalen and Dean Ayala of the Hearthstone team to talk about the designs of cards in Rastakhan's Rumble. We've got some interesting pre-release versions of some of our favourite cards, and cards that's straight up never made it! Check them out below.
Only because it hurts, could we consider removing Ben Brode's face from the Developer Interview graphic? I MISS YOU BRODE.
This version of hir'eek is more useful than the one that made it into the actual game.
I love how old Krag'wa was once for Warrior, and that the Temp Art for it is a fucking bird.
EDIT: I also just realised that the old Jan'alai is actually Benedict Cumberbatch.
I thougth it was Kriparrian LUL...really, actually is quite similar

It's Tim.
hir'eek was such a mad lad , that take 1 damage this turn is not that bad though give it to another class to be safe
Gonk couldn't be more broken
looks like hakkar was originally going to be kinda playable
All Blizzard's ideas (the ideas that normally define an expansion-the themes of an expansion) ended up in the Solo Play INSTEAD OF THE CARDS. Sad. Because there's some great and interesting ideas in there.
That's why Rumble was unsuccessful. That's why Hearthstone is dying.
The ideas and concepts used to be ON THE CARDS WE PLAY! Not backburnered and put in solo content. Put those ideas IN THE GAME!
The idea of the shrines could have been great and made Rumble a notable and interesting expansion with new and fun gameplay. Instead, we got another expansion that did nothing more than support what already existed. /yawn
theres a reason why none of these cards can be in the game.
Bye, Felicia!
Well, the second card at least, the one that refreshes your mana after taking damage. Could have pushed the "self-damage" lock that had a couple of cards printed and never seen again.
The first one, the 10/10, is utter trash, worse than the existing one.
i would love to see this art in the game, but, after kotft i think we can wait a little bit for it
So what happens if I put Spikeridged Steed on Shrine to Shirvallah? Can't go face, can't attack my taunt.
that's not how it works - just go against the adventure boss "the curator" and use rush minions - even if the boss has taunt, rush minions cannot attack the enemy hero, but can attack the minions instead.
also an immune minion with taunt cannot taunt. just to point that out
The reason you can't attack the curator with a rush minion is because that isn't how fucking rush works. It doesn't matter if the enemy hero has taunt, rush minions can't attack heroes the turn they're played
If a taunt minion is stealthed or immune its basically removes taunt until it loses the effect so this would probably be treated the same way. there's some other niche instances where it comes up.
So.... Kragwa "THE FROG" wasn't originally... an actual frog?? How high are the blizzard artists?
...you did notice the[Temp(orary) art(work)] disclaimer on every card, did you?
It is funny that they seemingly chose art without much regard for the name or flavor of the card. I know they probably just have a big database full of old Warcraft TCG jpgs and click a thumbnail that's "close enough" when they're designing the cards.
