Hearthstone Ranked Play Changes Coming February - A Faster Climb
Climbing Hearthstone's ladder is going to get easier for players below Rank 10! Details below.
- There is no change from rank 10 to rank 1.
- Between rank 50 and 16, ranks only require 3 stars to level up. (2 less!)
- Between rank 15 and 11, ranks only require 4 stars to level up. (1 less!)
Quote from DaxxarriWe’ve heard a lot of feedback about the long climb in Ranked play, so starting with the February Ranked Play season, we’re introducing a quality of life change by reducing the number of Stars required to advance in many of the Ranks!
Currently, every Rank has five Stars. When the February Ranked Play Season starts, each Rank will have the following number of Stars instead:
Rank Stars Rank 50 to Rank 16 3 Stars per Rank Rank 15 to Rank 11 4 Stars per Rank Rank 10 to Rank 1 5 Stars per Rank
This will make your Ranked Play climb faster in the lower ranks, while preserving the more competitive Star values for the higher Ranks.
When the February Ranked Play Season begins, you will still be reset four Ranks lower than the highest Rank you achieved in the previous season, but “excess” Stars will be shed to align with the new value for the Rank you are moving to. For example, if your highest Rank in January was Rank 10 with five Stars, then when the February Season begins, you will be set to Rank 14 with four Stars. The “fifth” Star is no longer there, but you would still be at the highest value for the Rank you were moved to.
How is this a good thing ? You said it yourself.. it just allow noobs to get to higher ranks.. which devaluates the ''high ranks''
it doesn't allow to help 'noobs'. It helps the players that don't play 500hours a month to get higher ranks, and it is only to rank 10 so have fun at 'high ranks'
I can appreciate this change. This perhaps could allow other players sightly easier access to higher ranks

This took me a minute to process, because to me "below rank 10" means "better than 10," or "Below = Lower," like rank 9, 8, etc.
I'm with it now... 11-50 is "below rank 10." Somehow it just sounds backwards to me. Am I the only one who things of lower numbers as being below higher numbers?
Had no Idea there was a rank below 25 xD
It's a new thing for new players only! And you even get a few packs along the way .
Whoosh
seems like Hearthstone is trying to appeal to the players, oh so suddenly when sales are the lowest its been in a while...
HMMMMMMMmmmm......
Nicely done.
reverting to how it's always been for the longest period is newsworthy
*sigh*
I'm glad that it's "back to normal" at lower ranks for casual months of playing (before they had that revamp) and that we keep the positive aspects.
great, make the easy ranks easier to flood the real ones with noobs. But srsly for me it always feels like like crashing a racecar into a wall, when hitting rank 5. Before its super easy and suddenly it takes forever to rank up and the game turns into a super annoying grind, i wish they wouldve changed the stars in these ranks.
Then git gud LUL
Am i the only one who wonders if this guy understands how hilarious that post is?
Complaining about noobs entering higher ranks and then complaining about not being able to beat the players in higher ranks.
I just had a good lough :D
Definitely agree with your last point. It's annoying to be facing skilled legend card back players with expensive decks at rank 15-20. It must be even more off putting to newer players fresh from the 50 to 20 climb.
Currently at rank 5 and then of course that's fair enough.
Never got to legend but should those players really have to grind back past say rank 10 if they take several months off (likely destroying opponents on their journey :) )?
Either that or a slower rank decay. So you lose 4 ranks next season but you can't lose more than 2 additional ranks than that point each season if you didn't climb back to where you were. Example were you didn't play for 3 months, Legend > Rank 4 > Rank 6 > Rank 8 > Rank 5 (if you climbed to Rank 1 that season). Though I guess people who didn't play much after legend would still get to Rank 20 in time.
Not convinced this is a good idea but just putting it out there.
They substantially admitted that they made an mistake one year ago. This also means that something is not going the way they'd like to (
the gamewhole company doesn't seem to be in a good shape) so they're somehow trying to fix the situation. How? Giving (not just casual but mostly) players advantages. We just have to hope that this is not the only change they'll implement to the game during the short period.something not going the way they like? hmmm sales are the lowest yet
Nice step.
Thank god for this. The last "improvements" didnt really improve my ranked experience. With 5 stars on all ranks, ladder remained the same annoying grind, especially if you didnt play that much.
