Hearthstone Ranked Play Changes Coming February - A Faster Climb
Climbing Hearthstone's ladder is going to get easier for players below Rank 10! Details below.
- There is no change from rank 10 to rank 1.
- Between rank 50 and 16, ranks only require 3 stars to level up. (2 less!)
- Between rank 15 and 11, ranks only require 4 stars to level up. (1 less!)
Quote from DaxxarriWe’ve heard a lot of feedback about the long climb in Ranked play, so starting with the February Ranked Play season, we’re introducing a quality of life change by reducing the number of Stars required to advance in many of the Ranks!
Currently, every Rank has five Stars. When the February Ranked Play Season starts, each Rank will have the following number of Stars instead:
Rank Stars Rank 50 to Rank 16 3 Stars per Rank Rank 15 to Rank 11 4 Stars per Rank Rank 10 to Rank 1 5 Stars per Rank
This will make your Ranked Play climb faster in the lower ranks, while preserving the more competitive Star values for the higher Ranks.
When the February Ranked Play Season begins, you will still be reset four Ranks lower than the highest Rank you achieved in the previous season, but “excess” Stars will be shed to align with the new value for the Rank you are moving to. For example, if your highest Rank in January was Rank 10 with five Stars, then when the February Season begins, you will be set to Rank 14 with four Stars. The “fifth” Star is no longer there, but you would still be at the highest value for the Rank you were moved to.
I am not sure exactly when these changes take place but I just logged in got rewards for last month and was reset to lvl 25. Its still saying that I need 5 wins. Just thought I would share this, I don't know if others are experiencing the same.
Edit: The issue has been resolved. I think I might have been looking at the wrong thing anyhow.
i think they could just use the same system that checks whether games with friends earn you quest rewards for wins. because there seems to be a counter like you suggested for this. i your friend concedes too early the win will not count for daily quests
it's legit ??
So this changes nothing for anyone who's remotely competent at the game. They'll likely still be in the 15-1 ranks anyway.
I've been out of the news loop for that past few weeks - please tell me those aren't the actual images correlated with ranks. Looks like it goes from cards to cartoons.
It's still the same old ones (the ones that been there since I started playing around a year ago) from ranks 25 to 1. There are other new ranks for beginners that have those cartoonish stuff
i dont see the purpose in this,
rank 50 to 20 seems useless to me
they need to make ranking up more fun or rewarding
again the change
they better let it how it was before
was'n a good idea many players stopping with playing hearthstone i think
les players les money :)
Why do people care about ranks ? Ive never understood, i dont feel any diffrent by playing at legend or rank 10 .
Same decks same plays, its not exactly rocket science to play HS.
Monthly reward. Free Golden Epic is a big deal.
This
Yeah, i went to the restaurant and they give me food for free because I ranked legend and got the golden legendary. My life really changed after that.
Guys it's just a game to kill time (well as long you are not pro player and it's your job).... if you are hooked to this, you are exactly what blizzard wants you to be.
.... you can disenchant the golden Epic and craft cards that you want. A golden Epic gives you 400 Dust.
Till they change reward and pack system i will play only daily quests. I don't want spend 3-6+ hours per day just to get another 9+ copy of a card or 40 dust. I opened 99-140 packs every expansion since Un'Goro(except Rastakhan) and my personal statistic says that 63-68% of cards going to dust(as copies).
Smart changes, but not rewarding the "extra" stars when next season begins is a lame move. Just because someone ends January at rank 10 and 5 stars doesn't mean to preserve the "drop 4 ranks" mechanic that you are essentially robbed of a win when you're dropped to rank 14 and 4 stars. Stealing wins from players to preserve the new season start up is cheap and arbitrary.
Not sure how anyone is being cheated in this scenario. If the changes were not being made to the ladder the player in this instance would still be at the exact same spot. Needing one win to get to the next rank of 14. Nothing is being taken away nor added. It’s fair
Unless you’re saying because of the change we are entitled to free extra stuff (which no, no we are not).
Let me try to explain. We know that each star represents a win. Right now, before the changes in February, if you end the season at rank 7 and 5 stars, you'd drop to rank 11 and 5 stars. With these changes, next season that fifth win is no longer acknowledged and is simply erased. Regardless of how long or how well you played, your next season starts with Blizzard saying "it's basically the same" and keeping you at rank 11 with 4 stars and one win to rank 10 instead of honoring that 5th win and bumping you to rank 10 1 star. Expecting your wins to matter toward your next season's placement isn't expecting "free stuff" because you earned the win and this the star. Quite the opposite, Blizzard is taking something you earned and essentially throwing it out. I'm not saying this is some game breaking, trust shattering move, it just feels arbitrary and cheap to try and pass off ignoring the 5th win for players who end January in that situation as something that's fair. It's more about the principle than anything.
change 10g/3 wins to 10g/5 games played. this way people wouldn't get punished for playing low tier decks in casual
I'd be up for this, but you'd need to add some sort of system to prevent mass conceding to gold cap (such as a minimum turns played counter, minimum time played in the game, or both).
Completely removing gold cap would be not good, that would just lead to more fast games done by aggro.. but maybe increase the gold cap in Ranked. And make gold earnable by even losing in casual, so you dont get punished for playing a non-t1-deck (or not get rewarded for playing a t1 deck)
