MMORPG.com Interviews Eric Dodds
MMORPG.com got to sit down and chat with Hearthstone Lead Designer, Eric Dodds, and inside of the interview, Eric let us know that we will be receiving over 100 cards in the next card set. Previously, Senior Game Designer, Mike Donais, said that the expansion would feature "not exactly 100 cards, but it's a lot".
Quote from Eric DoddsIt was recently revealed that the next set of cards will come out as part of a new booster pack. How many cards are we looking at? What sort of breakout can we expect in terms of new class cards vs. neutral cards? Anything you’re willing to spoil at this point?
Still working on the details of that. I mean, it’s going to be over 100 cards and it’s certainly going to be very different from Naxxramas, which was designed to put a smaller number of cards into play, because we don’t want to create this large number of cards, not overwhelm players, but at the same time, with this new expansion, we want to provide a large number of cards with additional options for the hardcore. So, exactly what those cards are and exactly what those ratios are, partially we’re still working on ‘em, and partially we’ll be talking about that in the future.
Other than that, Dodds touched on spectator mode still being worked on, Naxxramas being a success with some exceptions when it came to certain class challenges, and further confirmation that they are not considering a tenth Hearthstone Hero at this time.
This will be so great :D
I'm in the boat of being fine with not seeing this til next year. I'm still working on buying Naxx, I have a lot of the base set to collect, and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat. As much as people want the game to keep progressing quickly with new cards, there needs to be enough of a balance for newer players to be able to get a halfway decent collection so they're not left in the dust. I feel the pricing on the wings of Naxx was a much larger issue for this, though. (700 per wing with time to only do daily quests means months to unlock all of it)
That being said, still excited to see what they come up with for this new set.
So stoked for cardbase expansion!
Can't wait for this. One of my favorite things is opening packs and this sounds like new stuff will be added or have a different pack altogether.
Ok, so i'm a little confused. Could someone help me? So it sounds like in order to get these new cards you have to buy packs? Just like the normal packs in the game now?
Thank you for the response. Appreciate it.
I wonder if you can buy the full set with money or if it will all be unlocked through individual packs like the expert set
2v2: yes! More filtering options for your collection: yes!
Also I'd also really like an option to set to count goldens towards my deck limit when autodusting.
Spectator mode is not useless, its a lot lighter solution then streaming video, in fact its more difficult to run tournament on twitch without it
Do we know if there will be any new mechanics added? I could see something like minions with piercing to make them more effective vs armor, or spells that produce an effect for a number of turns before going away, like maybe a bleed for 1 damage over 3 turns or something like that.
No new keywords in the first expansion. They've already stated this.
Which is probably okay. It means the set will require less testing/coding than if there were new keywords. Which means maybe not waiting as long.
Okay, I haven't been keeping up, so this is the first I've heard about an expansion after Naxx
"We didn't want to create a lot of cards and overwhelm players" and then over 100 cards in next expansion...what?
In naxx you get 30 cards for sure, in bigger expansion you will need to buy packs, so your collection grows a lot slower
I'm looking forward to new cards, but I'm looking forward to an Android port even more. I think they'll show us some new cards at Blizzcon and probably have the Android port playable there, if not already into beta release.
*High pitched school girl scream* I. Can. Not. Wait. :D
Mmh... looks like i will start to save a sizeable amount of gold.Looking forward to this, we will certainly know more about it @Blizzcon, and i can see the expansion released around Christmas.
When was Naxxramas first hinted at?
Cannot wait!
My opinion is they should do a set release then 3 months later do an adventure type like Naxx.
Then 3 months later do another set release.
Keeps the game fresh and adds a change in the meta every 3 months without having to drop a ton of new stuff just small release then 2 big ones a year.
Coming soon (TM) - Don't save your gold folks. No, seriously, if you havent gotten all from the original sets, might as well try and get them now. Probably gonna be next year before we see the new expansion.
Yeah, earliest we could expect this expansion is for Christmas, but knowing that it's Blizzard I wouldn't be surprised if it's released well after New Year.
