In Ten Days, Hearthstone's Next Expansion Will Be Revealed - What We Know So Far
A countdown to the expansion announcement will show up on our front page next week - stay tuned!
In just a little under 240 hours, we'll know the name and some details of Hearthstone's next expansion - the last one for the Year of the Raven.
This year's BlizzCon on the surface won't be very different for us, but there's going to be something big missing - Ben Brode. One of Hearthstone's lead visionaries and fathers left the company earlier this year to found his own game studio with other ex-members of the Hearthstone team. Not only was one of the usual Hearthstone folk to tell us about the new expansion, but he was also responsible as the booming voice over the halls of BlizzCon.
Here's what you can expect this year that aren't so different.
- Announcement of Expansion during the Opening Ceremony.
- More details, including card reveals, during the dedicated "What's Next" panel.
- Details on any single player content they're adding in with the card set.
- Playable demo of the new single player content on the show floor.
There's also a couple of new things happening this year.
- An art panel where artists will showcase how they created the new card pack for this expansion.
- A panel talking about the past and future of Hearthstone solo adventures (likely additional, focused info on the new single player content).
Check out the full schedule of Hearthstone goodness over in our dedicated post.
What We Know So Far About Expansion 3
Not a whole lot! We do have a preview image of the theme though thanks to the Year of the Raven introduction from this past February.
- Expansion 1 showcased the trees of the Witchwood (which most, including us, thought we were going to Duskwood)
- Expansion 2 showcased The Netherstorm. No, Tempest Keep was not actually in store for us, it's just the home of Dr. Boom's Lab.
Expansion 3 is all over the place. We've got tribal-style markings that could be Troll themed (maybe even Orc?) and the middle contains what appears to be water, possible even a little bit of ice at the bottom left. The red rocks surrounding the "orb" in the center don't make any immediate connections unlike the Ethereal Gateway from Ex2 and roots from Ex1.
If I really wanted to go crazy with a guess, it would be something Pandaria themed thanks to the very natural, tranquil vibe the overall panel gives me. Come on Lorewalker Cho, let's go to your homeland and, hopefully, not make an absolute mess of it.
What do you think Expansion 3 will be?
Well.. New content, new cards? But now I feel it gets more busted for each expansion. And like I said, slow with the balancing .
The panel has teeth, I wouldn't call it tranquil. I'm guessing it's some Murloc bullshit.
those are not murloc teeth:
it's more like Trolls teeth
My bet is on murlocs and nagas. With end of year of the raven we will be left with almost no murlocs. I guess this will be as well an occasion to revive quest shaman for a while.
Eso es de trols fijo gente no le den mas vueltas, ahora el lore habrá que esperar a ver que se inventa blizzard esta vez.
GWENT is out. Who cares about this random pricy shit anymore, LUL. Blizzardboys with Mechadjara for 80 bucks, I guess.
you apparently?
Really, edgy bois like you don't need to be here. A quick look over your history is 'LUL', 'LUL', 'Fuck Blizzard', 'this game sucks', 'LUL'. Like, why even spend time here if you don't like the game?
Hopefully we see some Arakkoa or if the November card back (moonglade) is foreshadowing, then hope druids don't get any sort of powerful cards. Blizzard, can we please get a Tauren hero, even a Troll hero?!?!
=IF(DruidHero= "tauren",play,uninstall)
I predict it will be a Tauren Druid hero. Possibly Hamuul Runetotem. I don’t like Tauren though. Cows are too stupid to be people. I’d prefer a Troll, which is also conceivable. I’d really prefer a Worgen, but I’d be shocked if it was. Doesn’t fit with the feel of the hint.
Frostfire Ridge?
My predictions :
Set will be meta breaking, 2-3 godly decks will emerge, after a month of FTP's crying about overpowered cards, they will nerf some classics that became really good because of new cards, end result, the FTP's spent all their dust on the new fancy legendaries/epics which are now utter garbage ( and cant get refund because, not a direct nerf ), then they will get rekt by seasoned players who dont give a donkeys ass about nerfs because hey, we have all the goodies.
I love capitalism.
it reminds me of Frostfire Ridge. it's an icy zone with fire and red lighted stones, home of the horde in draenor. seems like a nice match.
maybe some kind of draenor related expansion?
There are a lot of people who were going to spend $80 no matter what. The skin was a nice bonus. I hope they do it again, but would like to see it offered for $10 in the hero shop on top of that.
I rarely net-deck. I have little issue defeating "the best" decks. I don't always win, but I win enough where things seem fine.
Are you coming up with your own decks? Do you have a lot of the Legendary and Epic cards? Those seem to be the biggest determining factor in beating the meta with different decks.
I just wanne go into a match , thinking "hmm wonder whos gonna win" instead of "owww, his playing that deck, ive already lost".
I do! I hope you try it it and like it!

i don't know what it could be, but i'll try to get 100 gold every day to opnen 100 packs again
Here's my guess/hope = the next expansion will be a "Return of the League of Explorers" based around the LoE digging up the ruins of some ancient Troll/Naga/Murloc/Ugly Bastard temple, in order to find "Something Big." Each class will get a Legendary Explorer, and the Discover mechanic will be developed in a new direction - maybe an extension of Adapt, but more useful. For folks who play MtG, I've always considered the Discover mechanic to be the HS equivalent of a sideboard - you get to search for an "outside the game" card to help you counter your creepy opponent. Discover could be pushed in lots of different directions, and making the mechanic play a little more like a sideboard would be interesting.
Justification = none. However, LoE was the first big attempt by Team 5 to produce an entirely new HS IP, and it was very well-received by the community. Un'Goro brought back Elise, and it wouldn't be a big stretch to imagine Team 5 bringing back some old cards, with new flavour, and a bunch of new HS IP, with a slew of new Legendaries.
