Ben Brode's PAX Dev 2018 Keynote
Brode recently gave the keynote at this year's PAX Dev and he recorded the audio of it to share. He talks about the little things that matter in game development that end up having a huge impact on players and developers. He talks about his mistakes and how you can better learn from them.
Ben Brode left Blizzard back in April of this year to co-found the game studio Second Dinner where he is the Chief Creative Officer. He is joined by Hearthstone team veterans Hamilton Chu, Yong Woo, Jomaro Kindred, and Michael Schweitzer.
Wait till you have a significant number of plays. It won;t matter which one you play as it will be basically the best decks in the meta 9 times out of 10 in casual.
thanks ben!
I'd never imagine a psychologist using the term "legit"!
Clearly you can't imagine any professional using any form of slang in a non-professional environment.
Then you're a dumbo sir
You can choose to set yourself to 50, mister
And I thought I was just getting over this break up :(
Your comment about talk being cheap only really applies to your comment.
This is a developer, sharing insight that he has garnered over several years. There's nothing fanboy about pissing on such an empty thought such as yours because you don't understand why this talk has legitimate value.
This talk is much more valuable to us than someone with a shit eating grin, drooling nonsense that lacks value. Talk is cheap, you say? Tell me how anything Brode said is pointless and without value. The man heads his very own game studio, and people left Blizzard to work with him. If his insight is without value, why did people leave one studio behind to follow him to work at another studio?
You validate your own existence by further asking for us to downvote you. Well done.
Uhm sure, if you say so... *downvotes*
So can we order HS in Extra Crispy?
the editing is amazing , I know it a slid show but he put more work in it then most streamers. I just love it.
Ben Brode is a King. Hope second dinner will have a bright future!
50% winrate isn't intresting at all in the end. Too many expansions per year currently. Ranked play as we know it is probably not just what the game should or could thrive upon
What's the alternative? (Genuine question)
Well, PvE content theme is already being discussed by Blizz according to current news topics, and also arena can become even more of canceled tournament mode type should it be given more fast-paced drive. I generally believe that PvE first and PvE themed PvP after is a good way to present long lasting content. So, adventures->casual-> ranked and arena + weekend brawls
I'm honestly glad Ben Brode left to start his own studio. He's the kind of guy that really should be in charge of his own studio. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and shouldn't be dictated to.
the sad thing is he tried doing all this in Hearthstone but they (executives and greedy assholes) didn't let him so he left, taking the best of the team with him and it shows.
Said it before, and I'll say it again. The shortcomings of Hearthstone are Activision's fault.
Time will tell how the game's health turns out. I can't be the only one that feels like the people who play this game are treated disrespectfully in a number of ways.
Is this something you know about, or just something you guess ?
If you know it, where do you get this information from ?
