The Five Most Underhyped Boomsday Project Cards

The Five Most Underhyped Boomsday Project Cards

Hello again, friends. Last time we talked about the most overhyped cards from the latest expansion, The Boomsday Project. Today we’re going the opposite route, highlighting some of the most underhyped cards from the expansion. These cards just weren’t talked about that much leading up to launch (or if they were it wasn't in a very positive light). Despite all that neglect and negativity at the beginning, these five cards have managed to overcome all obstacles and shine in their own unique ways. Who doesn’t love a good underdog story? Check them out, and some decks that run each of them, below!

1.  Giggling Inventor

According to hsreplay, this card is in a whopping 36.1% of decks. Keep in mind that it is a neutral card and can be played across all classes, so percentages for any of the following class cards aren’t going to be nearly this high. That being said that’s a LOT of decks. It’s been played over 4.5 million times, and if you check out the popularity graph, you’ll see a sharp (almost instantaneous) increase in popularity, where it has stayed pretty much since.

This card is so popular, in fact, that Blizzard recently said they were "keeping an eye on it." Our own polls indicate this card's popularity as well, 40.7% say it’s “Very Good”, with 20.7% going even further and saying that it’s “Meta-defining!”.

Look, this card didn’t get a ton of mentions in the “best of” or “most anticipated” lists before launch. BUT, we here at Hearthpwn have some very astute users, and some of you guys knew ahead of time that this card was going to explode in popularity. Feel free to pat yourselves on the back. Go on, we’ll wait.

2. The Soularium

Worse than being ignored before launch, The Soularium even made it onto a pre-launch worst cards list. But despite such a rough start, it has turned out to be a surprisingly popular card.

According to our polls: 46.4% of players say it’s “Very Good” with an additional 26.4% saying that it’s “Meta-defining!”. Also according to our data, it’s being used in 24.3% of Warlock decks lately. That's almost a quarter of Warlock decks being played by Hearthpwn users! And of course, surprising perhaps no one, this card is primarily played in Zoolock decks.

3. Subject 9

This card didn’t get a whole lot of chatter prelaunch, but it has done well for itself. Subject 9 doesn’t have quite as high of a play rate as some of the other cards on this list, but it has a solid upward trend in popularity and a significant win rate that can’t be ignored.

Not all classes have secrets, so despite this being a neutral card it’s only going to come in handy for a few classes. With that in mind, it kind of makes it's popularity even more impressive. You’ll get a lot of bang for your buck with this card if you enjoy playing Secret Hunter, Secret Mage, etc.

4. Zilliax

Aside from Giggling Inventor, this card is the most popular on this list. It wasn’t mentioned a ton in pre-launch discussions, but even what little conversation it did conjure up doesn't account for how popular it is in today’s meta.

Not only is this card being included in 15% of decks, but it also has a long trend of a high win rate (according to hsreplay). It’s good in a variety of decks and classes, because it’s neutral. It's especially popular (and useful) with Odd Warrior decks, but it is seeing success in plenty of others as well.

5. Doubling Imp

This card wasn't hyped up very much before launch. Some insightful people were able to see the value of this card early on, but for the most part it was largely ignored. Shortly after launch, however, it saw a sharp rise in popularity and has been a stable of Warlock decks since.

According to hsreplay, this card has been played over a million times and is included in 7.4% of decks. Almost everyone in our poll agrees that this is a good card. Only 1.3% of players say it’s “Bad” and 0.3% say to “Dust It!”. Don’t listen to those people. Listen to the 65.7% who say it’s “Very Good”. They know what’s up.
