Quote from BlizzardWith the top 16 countries and regions in the world identified, it’s time to see which teams will advance to the Hearthstone Global Games (HGG) playoffs at BlizzCon®. Celebrate the journey with HGG Cheer—a new program that allows you to support your favorite teams and unlock rewards in-game and on Twitch along the way!
From Sept. 17 through Nov. 4, you can support participating HGG teams by Cheering with Bits on Twitch. As you Cheer for a team using their dedicated, custom Cheermote, a portion of the revenue will go back to the players on that team.
When you Cheer for a team, you’ll also be able to unlock special Twitch emotes and in-game rewards for Hearthstone based on how much you Cheer. In addition to personal rewards, community support can unlock global rewards for everyone who has Cheered as overall milestones are reached.
You’ll be able to see your personal and global progress on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. HGG supporters can see:
- Your Progress: As you Cheer (for any team), you’ll make progress towards unlocking Twitch emotes and in-game rewards—including card packs and a card back—based on the level of Cheering you’ve done as an individual.
- Global Progress: Monitor the overall support for HGG and keep track as overall levels of Cheering unlock global rewards for supporters over a minimum level of personal Cheering.
Here’s how to participate in HGG Cheer and unlock rewards:
- Link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account.
- Visit the official Hearthstone Twitch channel any time from Sept. 17 through Nov. 4.
- Select the Cheermote of the team you wish to support, then add the number of Bits you wish to Cheer (plus an optional custom message).
- Check back in the Tavern once goals are reached to automatically receive your rewards! (The card back will be added in a future Hearthstone update.)
Everyone, get in here! Support your team in the Hearthstone Global Games and follow them as they chase the trophy at BlizzCon. The program goes live on Sept. 17, so link your accounts, get your Bits, and be ready to start Cheering for HGG!
Frequently Asked Questions
Quote from BlizzardHow much revenue does a team receive when I Cheer for them?
For each Bit Cheered for an HGG team, that team and Blizzard (as the tournament organizer) receive an equal amount of revenue. The HGG team’s portion is divided evenly among the four team members.
Which teams are included in HGG Cheer?
Brazil, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, China, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, Portugal, and the United States are included.
How do I Cheer for a team?
To Cheer for your team of choice, click on the Bits icon in the corner of the chat window, select that team’s Cheermote, add the number of Bits you want to use, and optionally add a custom message to cheer them on.
Can I use the regular Cheer command for HGG Cheer?
No, regular Cheers won’t work for HGG Cheer. You can Cheer for any of the 16 remaining HGG teams using their team-themed Cheermotes.
I forgot to link my Blizzard Battle.net account before Cheering! Can I still get the items?
Yes! First, link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account. When you return to the Hearthstone Twitch channel, you’ll see that a “Redeem All” button has appeared. Hit that button to claim your items!
Where can I watch HGG in my native language?
You can view HGG in English, Russian, French, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, and Thai.
Is getting free bits from watching ads working for anyone today? (yes, I am in the US). It keeps saying to try again later.
Nope.
great, cheering for
a cesspooltwitch for a cardback that doesn't matterseems perfectly reasonable
Thinking blizzard account department is the same is the game design department. LuL
I was wondering why I wasn't getting bits from watching ads… I did a research and turns out you're only getting bits from watching ads if you are from the US.
So it turns out you won't be able to get free packs and the card back if you aren't from the US.
You can always purchase the bits right?
You could also use a VPN and watch the ads for bits
Of course, I can purchase bits, but the option to get them for free is out of the question.
I won't use a VPN just to get a small amount of free bits, I dunno if that'd even work.
I'm in the US and some time ago the ability to get free bits from watching ads was disabled entirely. Not sure why!
It seems to be back now for me, though I do remember it being gone for a while
Because I think a game is well designed, that makes me a fanboy?
If you would kindly give some concrete examples of what should be fixed in the game and how you would fix them, I'd gladly address them. Perhaps that would give you a better argument than this ad hominem fallacious nonsense.
As for whether or not being a fanboy in this case is a bad thing, I don't see the argument. If I'm able to play the game well, enjoy it, while ranking up to high rankings as fully F2P, without spending a large time investment (as I work fulltime), I don't see how it's justifiable for anyone to complain about Blizzard's business practices. In fact, I think they are too generous if anything with all of the special events that happen throughout the year. That's not even mentioning the ability to go infinite in arena for those who have large amounts of time available
If you think the game is in a bad state and are unwilling to give concrete examples to why you believe this, perhaps you should try getting good at the game instead of complaining.
All the fun of proving you wrong is minimal when you make such fallacious and strictly aggressive posts. At least post some relevant opinion so that I have a bit of a challenge in developing my points.
As for why all my posts are today, that is because I didn't and still don't really consider it worth my time to educate such mindless hatred.
The large portion of this community is clearly beyond saving. I will make note of this for the future on what to avoid as I am in the process of reviving a different community (that died for similar reasons).
Thank you for setting the example on what I want to avoid in the community I am currently leading for a different game. I appreciate your posts as they have been quite educational
So how much do I need to cheer to get card back? I want to know how much should I grind those ads...
It hasn't been announced yet. There will be a progress tracker once the event actually starts
I love watching people complain about Blizzard making money as if they deserve everything for free, especially the people who claim pay to win. Meanwhile, here I am fully F2P, reaching Rank 1 for the past 2 months (without much time investment as I work full time), thinking what a great thing Blizzard is doing by giving bonuses for partially supporting HS players in the Global games through cheering. I love free packs for ads.
To those who complain about Blizzard's business practices:
Did you try getting good at the game?
you're not good if you're only rank 1...wake up, there're ten of thousands of players better than you
I'm well aware of that. This is quite understandable since I work full-time, thus not having that much time for HS. Meanwhile, many people play 8-10 hr daily. Note that I have nothing against this, I'm just pointing out that it's natural that all of these would be above me in rankings
It seems to me that many people consistently complain about not being top-rank legend based on the time investment required and/or the "need" to buy packs. However, since when is it a requirement for me to reach top-rank legend for Blizzard's business practices to be considered acceptable?
Seems to me a bunch of people are upset that they aren't top rank legend, but isn't it a bit unreasonable for millions of players to all be required to reach top 1000 legend before they consider the game's system/status acceptable? Seems to me that end of month rewards aren't that much bigger comparing rank 1 to legend.
Naturally, those who want to play professionally put in the larger time investment. It seems unreasonable to say Blizzard is at fault when those playing casually (<1-2 hr daily or so) aren't high legend.
The fact that there are F2P players reaching high ranks at all surely is sufficient evidence that the game isn't required pay to win. (Even more so when said F2P players aren't attempting to play professionally)
However, all of that ignored, since when is it intolerable for a company to need to make money to function? Would you prefer HS to be filling with ads to generate ad revenue? That would be the common natural alternative to buying in-game items (many games have both, so we can consider ourselves lucky)
Game issues? If I can climb to rank 2, two months in a row, with Countess Ashmore Dire Frenzy Hunter, as fully F2P, I think the game is in a great state.
Awful card backs are a problem? I didn't realize extra ignorable content was so terribly painful.
I'm not entirely sure which bugs you are referring to, but fixing bugs is often a complicated issue and it's understandable that it takes a while. Even so, however, having this promotion doesn't take time away from that as I'm sure there are different Blizzard employees focusing on Marketing vs. Developing
As for no nerfs, this is an even more complicated issue that requires a large amount of time to determine what, if anything, should be nerfed. Personally, I haven't experienced any matchups that feel statistically unwinnable, so considering I'm not playing a meta deck and I'm climbing ranks, I don't necessarily see an issue here. Although if I was to nerf anything, perhaps quest rouge because of Giggling Inventor, but I think it's too soon to determine if that is necessary. I'm sure Blizzard is gathering statistics on it
