Initial Crafting Advice For Legendary Cards In The Boomsday Project
Now that we've had a few days of playing with the new Legendary cards brought to us by Boom Labs in The Boomsday Project, we've got some initial rankings to share on how well they're doing. You can use the information here to help decide whether or not you want to craft any of the new legendary cards, though we do think it's still smart to wait a couple of weeks from an expansion launch before making any big decisions.
Below you'll find our highlights of each tier, along with a description of what the different tiers mean. Full data can be found in our Hearthstone Legendary Cards Tier List & Crafting Guide thread found over on the card discussion forums. Updates will be made to that thread as things evolve.
It should also be noted we've got a special section just for ranking cards in Wild.
Tier 1 - Staples
We're not confident in giving any cards the Tier 1 badge yet because these are considered as must-have cards. Anything in this bracket is typically used in either a certain archetype that is crushing everything else or is used across a variety of high-level decks. Great examples of cards in this tier from Witchwood were Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane which were used in many different classes to great success.
As the meta is still evolving heavily, anything we suggest here could become outdated quickly. We've got a good idea what belongs here after a couple of weeks.
Tier 2 - Tech
These are usually cards that although not necessarily must-crafts, they're going to help you out with a particular archetype that is seeing success.
Tier 3 - Playable
We're seeing these cards working in decks and although they may not be at the absolute top right now, it could go both ways. At the very least they're usually fun additions to the game.
Tier 4 - Niche
If you've got them, it may be worth hanging onto because they're at least seeing some play. Disenchanting these cards may result in regret down the line.
Tier 5 - Trash
Dust em! It's really that easy.

Harbinger Celestia tier 4 xD more like tier 14
You guys are managing a site that probably has the widest readership for Hearthstone. When you speak, people take notice. And they take your words seriously. This "we didn't really mean 'dust it', we actually want you to look at the forum post" approach belittles the meaning of words, in a site that prides itself on, and thrives on words.
I hope the team errs on the side of caution, and takes a more circumspect stance (perhaps brew things up in the forum post first, and let it sit for a while - a week or two wouldn't hurt) before posting articles like this.
Agreed, that makes no sense. The priest spell is actually in a constructed deck, Velen/Malygos Priest. It's not a great deck but Harbinger Celestia isn't in any decks. It could be in the future, but the Priest spell has much more potential to be used in the future.
I'd love to see it as well since I crafted Zerek and a Reckless Experimenter in hopes of making a fun Quest Priest deck with some quicker tempo swings utilizing Experimenter and Devilsaur Eggs, using Zerek to hopefully get one, two, or more of him to stick on the board using things like Vivid Nightmare. However, I think my biggest issue is I may be trying to fit in too many ideas.
I actually used her in a control mage deck as a meme because I opened her, and she all but won me the game against both a recruit warrior and a big druid, both of which my deck would have struggled against. I think this article is spot on saying she's niche because she does work in those specific situations, but I find it very difficult to see her making a difference in any other situation.
Edit: But she got shut the f down by a Spell Hunter (a match I assumed I would have gotten a 4 mana 5/6) but he had Deadly Shot and destroyed her.
Celestia over Zerek and cloning galery? What?
4 mana 1 2 fire fly without battlecry, yeah, seems "niche" indeed.
I got Dr. Morrigan today and i can tell you that i have lot of fun with it in wild...
This is mine deck xd i changed mountain giant for ectomancy. Try it if you can :) lot of fun.
What?
How this list can be taken seriously when Harbinger Celestia, probably the worse legendary in the set, with ZERO playability potential is in 'Niche' tier, but the priest's legendary cards, that has SOME potential (even if now they are not being played) to be good in the future is in the 'Trash' tier.
Currently, Harbringer has more succesful play that either of the Priest Legendaries.
This in large terms could be because of the first few days worth of decks with pretty much only mid to large sized minions, which in turn makes her quite a good card. But only in that specific situation. Which is what makes her niche. Since she is... very niche.
Currently nothing has shown for either of the Priest Legendaries to be of any use in standard. So they're not even niche. Also, take into consideration that these tier lists are for NOW. It's impossible to judge a card based on how good it can be in the future.
These tier lists are for now indeed. The meta hasn’t stabilizied and people are still not done experimenting with cards.
cards that might seem bad at first glance, like Zerek, Master Cloner could very well be good in a week or two, or at least not utter trash. And vice versa of course.
so it’s good you didn’t put anything in tier 1, because there are no clearly must-have cards like Baku and Genn, as the article says. But it’s really bad that you’re advising to dust cards that just haven’t been experimented with enough.
Also I played the Zerek deck recipe, and while it might never become a competitive deck, it’s at the very least a very fun deck and it’s definitely worth keeping Zerek.
That's exactly what I assumed she did before I saw her in action...
this author of the article needs togive his head a shake. Zerek is not trash. where is Mecha'Thun on this list? Zilliax is essential now to many decks. not just a "tech" Luna is insane for tempoand control. Floop is nuts etc......the list is incomplete and the author needs to take a risk and classify the legendaries as of now, reserving the right to change his mind in the future.
This poster needs to follow the links at the top to the complete list:

Please note that Zerek's Cloning Gallery is in tier 3 in Wild for big priest, and is a candidate for promotion if the winrate improves or a reasonable use in standard is discovered. When that archetype shows up, be sure to post in the thread, and it will be updated!
Guess which Muppet tried to make a priest deck,
I can confirm they're garbage.
whose garbage?
they're*
Responses below.
1. "If you read the actual list, it should be pretty clear that "Dust em! It's really that easy" is not quite what Tier 5 means."
Maybe we should place what it really means in the main article, duly bannered at the front page of the site. A reader shouldn't have to dig through the innards of a forum post to find out what the author really meant.
2. "Also, with the massive effort by the community to find the most effective decks, the meta stabilizes very quickly now, so it is not as irresponsible to post the list right now as you might think."
If it stabilizes very quickly, where is Tier 1?
3. "In the changelogs, you can see the movements after the initial placements after previous releases, and the changes are corrections rather than overhauls. Some bigger changes, like the ones following the discovery of Cubelock, were actually picked up in the crafting guide before the deck was known and had gotten it's name!"
Changelogs might have room in forum posts, but not in front page articles like this. Will this even be updated?
4. "Also, by bringing attention to this list, we will get feedback to make sure it is updated, text and tiers."
I understand this sentiment. And I do hope the feedback gets reflected in the article. I'm not trying to give you guys a hard time. I just feel that someone needs to point out how dangerous prematurely posting lists like this is, especially for casual site users who do not have the time to dig through the nitty gritty of forum posts.
The whole point of the article was to direct people to the newly updated full guide.
Tier 1 was used right away after WW, but there are no standout must crafts yet, and there might never be! Subject 9 is actually in Tier 1 it Wild, so it is present!
I mentioned the Changelogs of the crafting guide to point out how initial placements have worked out in the past.
"Dust em! It's really that easy."
I disagree. Whatever is trash tier today might not be trash tier later but even cards that are truely trash should not be dusted until you are never ever getting another deck of cards from that expansion because of the no duplicate legendary rule. I wouldn't even dust that warlock card even though it looks the most dust worthy because I don't want to randomly draw it again in another pack.
Dust em later! Maybe
