Oh boy. I sure am excited, especially to see how Mike Donais does! I'm sure it'll be great!
Given that Day9 doesn't stream Hearthstone very much, and there are lots of other streamers who would do a good job hyping the set (e.g. Frodan seems like a good hype-guy), you have to wonder whether Day9 is in some contract for these things. It's hard to imagine there aren't better streamers for this. And I mean no offense to Day9, it just seems like they'd get a bigger audience and more excitement with someone more dedicated to Hearthstone.
It's not so much a matter of contract, but a matter of familiarity and proximity. Day9 has been working on presenting media stuff for them for years and has working social relationships with most of the people there. Day9 is a really, really low risk candidate who they know can work an audience, and who as a bonus has experience with Hearthstone.
Hearthstone Pros would look at the cards differently than Day9 would. I'm sure firebat doesn't care about timmy cards like Tyrantus, but Day9 geeked out over that. He has the capacity to sit back from his perspective as well, and rate a card by its use to professionals, himself, and to newer players. And, again, combine all that with familiarity with the team and expertise in presenting content, and he becomes a flavorful pick quite easily.
That, and, you need a happy person to do the reveals. You can't have someone like Kripp or Kolento doing the reveal.
I mean, Kripp or Kolento could do the reveals, but the reason that they keep bringing back Day9 is that he is really good at hyping up cards and making it look natural. If we got someone like Kripp, he would have looked at Tyrantus and reasoned out why it would or wouldn't see play. Blizzard isn't making these streams to discuss these cards - that's what other streamers do - Blizzard makes these streams to create energy in the community. If Kripp was invited, his input, while being completely rational and logically sound, simply wouldn't be the purpose of the streams. If you watch the reveal streams back, Day9 talks about every single card in the sense of how it would impact the game. During the Tyrantus reveal, he said: "Once this is on the board, all decks will have a hard time dealing with this, aggro or control". He didn't realise the obvious fact that getting a 10 mana 12/12 on board that does nothing is pretty inconsequential.
It’s not the same without the Brode!
Thanks for the news, HearthPwn. And not only that, but thanks for all the coverage regarding card reveals, and also the excellent and intuitive layout of new cards that you prepare for every expansion, it's so nice to see them ordered by class and rarity in the guide.
This has always been and always will be my go to site regarding Hearthstone. The discussions are always kept civilized but interesting, and the articles are usually good reads and curious stuff. You can really get lost in this site for quite a long time, reading and learning about the game.
Again, thanks for the excellent work you do on a daily basis, guys. Oh and ofc, personally I appreciate very much that you take the effort to display the European time in every event/stream etc that takes place.
Greetings from Spain, awesome work ;)
Someone like Kripp should be doing the reveal stream, day9 ain’t even commited to Hearthstone.
Kripp is a terrible choice. He would create anti-hype by queuing up his bored face for every card that's played, which is the complete opposite of what Day9 does. He creates fun and excitement.
I like Kripp, but Bandit is right for the most part. He really wont create much hype as he's just not really that kind of guy. I don't think Day9 should really be doing it either though, since as many have pointed out, he really doesn't play a ton of HS anymore. There are plenty of other popular HS streamers that they could and should pick from. Savjz? Thjis, Trump, Noxious, hell even toast. I don't even watch/like all those guys but I'd rather see somebody more connected to the meta and game up there giving some analysis on the cards as they're revealed.
#Toastforcardrevealstreams
I feel the reason they don't pick pros is because they'll analyze all the cards too much. Where again, Day9 himself gets excited about them, and that excitement then pours out into the community. I, for one, took in his excitement last time and got so hyped to play Shudderwock after seeing him have so much fun with it.
A little weird that they decided to have a shorter reveal season, but then have a 6 day gap between the last reveal stream and the expansion's launch.
When it was shorter in the past, guys like ADWCTA complained that it wasn't enough time to do Arena meta analysis and card evaluation for the remaining cards.
I think pros need time to evaluate.
Also, they have the special Fireside Gathering events in between where people get to open their packs early. They need to do the final reveal stream before this so all of the cards are out there before the event.
Day9 barly plays hearthstone anymore give it to a main hearthstone streams or even a caster. it will be cool if we can vote for a presenter or live stream questions it seem to scripted
It feels like we have gotten through this reveal season fast
Sure, getting up at 3am is going to be super fun.
hopefully it'll be better than the shitshow that was the last reveal stream
Day9 is a very positive guy, always nice to meet him on screen.
Especially without Ben, he would charge enough luls I bet =)
How long is pre-purchase available?
