Hearthstone Tavern Talk: Class Rewards, New Players, Alternate Card Art, Card Reprints
Blizzard has started a new series of posts for communicating with the community called Tavern Talk. Here's the recap followed by the three questions they answered.
- No plans for more rewards for class wins. New Features or Rewards should be obtained by 10% or more of players.
- They want to add additional ranks to ladder for newer players so they can't fight "more invested players".
- Alternate card art hurts good gameplay. You should be able to immediately recognize what a card is by a single piece of art.
- No plans for reprinting old cards, it would only happen after careful consideration.
Quote from Jesse HillEver wondered what goes on behind the closed doors of the tavern? Ava and the crew’s antics aside, the Hearthstone development team works hard on a myriad of tasks to bring you the game you know and love so well. More than that, we also make the time to read about the different issues and questions the community brings to light each day.
Welcome to Hearthstone Tavern Talk, where we’ll share with you answers to some of the questions we see in our community!
Are there any additional rewards for players who have achieved a Golden Hero in every class?
Usually when we add new features or rewards we like to make something that can be obtained by 10% or more of our players. Only very few of our players have the 9 Golden Heroes, and we feel that’s already pretty awesome by itself.
Do you have any changes planned for the new player experience?
We have some small ladder changes that we would like to do at some point, specifically targeted at new players when they first enter the game. The change will add some additional ranks above rank 25 that new players can play through before having to play more invested players. There will only be forward advancement through those ranks, so even if they lose, no one will be able to drop back down.
What are your thoughts on alternate card art or reprints of cards from earlier sets?
Alternate card art is something we have avoided because players almost always use art to recognize a card and instantly know what it does. Good gameplay is very important to us so we have avoided adding multiple pieces of art for a single card.
Reprints are something that we have discussed in the past, but we would want to do so only after careful consideration. We don’t have any specific plans for this in the near future.
See you at the next edition of Hearthstone Tavern Talk!
I agree. Shadowverse is also a huge offender in this regard. SV also has a ton of alternate heros that aren't super common since you have to get a rare pull out of a pack to get most of them. MANY times I've queued into matches where I didn't even know what class I was up against at first! It's REALLY lame.
You can go to setting and inable the ability to see what class your oppenent is playing.
That way when you hover over the leader, you can see what class they are playing,
it's not hard remember extra alt. art work, the follower doesn't change that dramalty anyways.
unless it's fate stay night followers alt. art work, they don't have alot of these.
On alternate art, I'm surprised there havent been any HS mods to change card art like there were for WoW to change up the models. I remember a mod that let you swap your current armor set for anything else you wanted, but it only showed up for you, so you could be in T4 armor on your screen when you looked like a noob to everyone else. A story back in the Burning Crusade days, a guy in the guild kept going on and on about all his 'sexy' mods he had installed and how different his game probably looked from everyone else's. He finally posted screen shots and my word... not only was his toon model and armor heavily 'modified', there was wow hentai everywhere, every banner in cities, every picture in buildings, his loading screens, literally everywhere. The level of dedication someone took to create all that and put it into a mod was... disturbing.
Tldr of every new addition to HS: "maybe... nah... in the future..."
There was a thread not long ago that was about adding 5000 class ranked wins rewards.. To me anything above the current 500 is overkill and to be honest if/when I reach 500 with every class I surely will not think like ,,damn I want more rewards at 1000 or something so I have something to strive for,, I will be happy that I've finally done it. There is a sense of satisfaction when you know you have accomplished the maximum reward in a video game and if they add more and more rewards you will never get that satisfaction of being finished with it. Thankfully Blizzard thinks of that too :).
I play this game daily since almost 2 years ago and I have no golden heroes. I just don't like to play ranked, in my opinion there are less variety of decks to play against.
But most of my friends play ranked daily since 2 years ago too, and they have only one or none golden heroes. They are usually on rank 1-5 (not legend). They are good players, who play meta decks and have good winrates. They play one or three daily hours.
If Blizzard give us more rewards after getting the golden hero, it's ok. I mean, great. But most of us just don't care.
" Only very few of our players have the 9 Golden Heroes, and we feel that’s already pretty awesome by itself."
those are the players who play this game often and prob invest good amount of money in it, maybe you should give extra incentive so those players will continue playing
This is a very good and understated point. My Elder Scrolls Legends experience suffered a bit from this since there are many cards there with different golden art, and most of their sounds aren't half as memorable as the ones in Hearthstone, so I didn't recongnize them the moment they were played.
More deck slots, please ;(
it's funny think that blizzard added 9 more slots 1 or 2 years ago, and it still wasn't enougth for some people, me included xd
They doubled our need for deck slots at the same time by doubling the number of formats.
They made copy and paste decks for a reason, but their client is shit, since i play hearthstone in a different language , loading a decks takes forever~!!
I think alternate art for Legendaries would work since they're a small pool of very recognizable cards and would make sense as promos.
THIS.
this is what blizzard should do, but they wont.
excatly, what shadowverse did.
i dont have any single class golden, so we have some time before anything is implemented xd
Didn’t know people wanted dupe art for the same card. I understand if all you play is competitive constructed you’d get sick of the same cards over and over, but for arena, brawl and even wild, where you see the entire set of cards regularly, it’d be a pain. I go by card art when playing a card, not by reading it’s text each time. And even still I sometimes grab the wrong card because it’s art look similar to another. It happened in last weeks brawl actually, but I don’t recall the card I misplayed. Thankfully didn’t cost me the game.
What do they mean by reprint? Like, re-releasing a card from a Wild set in some new set or what?
Thats what reprint means.....
Well, it can mean sligthly different things.
All other times I have seen the word "reprint", they meant stuff like Ice Rager, Evil Heckler, Drain Soul or Snap Freeze. But it's obvious Jesse Hill doesn't mean that, as Blizzard is already doing it.
