Hearthstone Tavern Talk: Class Rewards, New Players, Alternate Card Art, Card Reprints
Blizzard has started a new series of posts for communicating with the community called Tavern Talk. Here's the recap followed by the three questions they answered.
- No plans for more rewards for class wins. New Features or Rewards should be obtained by 10% or more of players.
- They want to add additional ranks to ladder for newer players so they can't fight "more invested players".
- Alternate card art hurts good gameplay. You should be able to immediately recognize what a card is by a single piece of art.
- No plans for reprinting old cards, it would only happen after careful consideration.
Quote from Jesse HillEver wondered what goes on behind the closed doors of the tavern? Ava and the crew’s antics aside, the Hearthstone development team works hard on a myriad of tasks to bring you the game you know and love so well. More than that, we also make the time to read about the different issues and questions the community brings to light each day.
Welcome to Hearthstone Tavern Talk, where we’ll share with you answers to some of the questions we see in our community!
Are there any additional rewards for players who have achieved a Golden Hero in every class?
Usually when we add new features or rewards we like to make something that can be obtained by 10% or more of our players. Only very few of our players have the 9 Golden Heroes, and we feel that’s already pretty awesome by itself.
Do you have any changes planned for the new player experience?
We have some small ladder changes that we would like to do at some point, specifically targeted at new players when they first enter the game. The change will add some additional ranks above rank 25 that new players can play through before having to play more invested players. There will only be forward advancement through those ranks, so even if they lose, no one will be able to drop back down.
What are your thoughts on alternate card art or reprints of cards from earlier sets?
Alternate card art is something we have avoided because players almost always use art to recognize a card and instantly know what it does. Good gameplay is very important to us so we have avoided adding multiple pieces of art for a single card.
Reprints are something that we have discussed in the past, but we would want to do so only after careful consideration. We don’t have any specific plans for this in the near future.
See you at the next edition of Hearthstone Tavern Talk!
Hearthstone needs more achievments and milestones.
hello hearthpwn I want a refund on the time I just wasted reading this garbage
Their plans are to do nothing, super exciting
Coming from a player who almost exclusively plays combo decks in wild having some soft counters to combo/otk decks is actually more healthy to the game and to OTK decks in the long run. Note that I'm not saying having 'crab counters' that instantly cause OTK players to lose 100% of the time, but cards that give the opponent a chance for the opponent to weaken the OTK or a small chance to win by pulling or burning a card.
Why is not having some sort of soft counter bad for OTKs? Well, take standard for example, since there are currently no cards in standard that interact with cards in the hand or deck (with niche exceptions for one class via Gnomeferatu and Howlfiend) more players complain about Shudderwok and Aviana Togwaggle decks. If you get too many players that complain for long enough it increases the chance of that deck/card getting nerfed to oblivion and made unavailable to standard and wild, even if the deck was not tier 1 or tier 2 (e.g. Raging Worgen Warrior). If you at least have a soft counter than that decreases the complaints from the vocal minority and decreases the chance that the OTK deck(s) are nerfed into unplayable Warsong Commander status.
I'd rather have soft partial counters for OTK decks and be able to still play my OTK/combo decks than to not have many counters, or none at all, and then have complaints lead to me never being able to play that OTK/combo deck again due to big nerfs.
Blizzard should think about convert some cards of each expansion into the classic set. Let say that they would do this from the Witchwood expansion foward, when WW rotated out they would know already the cards that would be healthier to be placed in the classic set and stay in standard. Instead of buying WW packs, those cards would now come in the classic pack.
It kills 2 birds with one stone. The classic set would not get smaller (because of the HoF) and player would keep some of their loved cards.
I agree. It would also put some neutral tech tools in classic for standard players instead of wasting future card slots reprinting the same general tech each Hearthstone year.
For example, if they just put Eater of Secrets into classic we could stop seeing anti secret tech reprinted in the first one or two expansions of future Hearthstone years and could instead see another common or rare card that is more unique than [Anti-Secret Tech #23]
I love this game and this community but seriously... the Blizzard explanation on why there isn’t a reward for nine golden heroes is some seriously dumb shiz. Give us veteran players some good reasons to keep playing and progressing! There should also be rewards for 1k wins, 5k wins, 10k wins, and so on!
How about 10 gold for 1k wins,20 gold for 5k wins and 30 gold for 10k wins ?
Boy that first tavern talk was about as useful as a bag of hammers.
I think they could do the Dirty Rat mechanic on another card and it would be fine. Perhaps the new version would need to be more expensive to avoid a problematic situation in Wild where a player could play multiple "Dirty" cards, then follow-up with a board clear and really knee-cap their opponent. Without doing an on the spot design, a similar effect on a four or five mana card would probably help Control answer Combo in Standard without having a huge impact on Wild.
Does that logic sound right?
Alternately, they could reprint it: A rat will do anything to survive, even jumping out of a rotating set into a new one. ;-)
Bring Dirty Rat back. Problem solved. No more playing control and concede cause u realize ur opponent is playing a combo otk deck.
Blizzard listen!!! DIRTY RAT DIRTY RAT DIRTY RAT BRING IT BACK!!!!!!
So instead of control decks having no chance against combo and having to concede you'd have combo decks have no chance of winning when their win condition gets destroyed and have to concede.
From the competitive viewpoint that suggestion destroys the healthy rock-paper-scissors mechanic.
From the enjoyment viewpoint it's faster to insta-concede against a bad matchup than it is to wait for the rat and concede after that, so that'd just be a waste of time.
i didn't understood a thing you said, it's better they take out RNG out or kept it more consistant like the search for 3 cost should either have a bigger search choice or useless cards in the pool be taken out.
It would be nice that each expansion would have their own set of achievements to do. Like the ones the game had where they award players with packs for certain achievement completed. I believe that by doing this players would have other ways to earn packs, gold and dust for that expansion. It will also helps with the F2P and new players while making the game a little bit less expensive.
an overall achievements is what shadowverse has and it helps alot,
A (Golden-like) card back for people who've obtained all 9 golden heroes seems like a good, simple reward?
Wow I didn't reach 500 with any hero yet and I'm playing HS pretty much since it's release
It would be nice if there were more achievement-based cardbacks. For example, you could have a cardback for reaching 500 wins in Standard, or 500 wins with a hero, and so on.
If you play every day, sure it's not hard to remember. Not everyone plays every day.
even if you don't play everyday, your brain is powerful enough to remember little by little, that's why homework is effiecent
