Quote from @PlayHearthstoneThank you for your feedback regarding our recent update. We saw a lot of feedback regarding the recent change to Tess Greymane and are currently discussing this change further. We will provide an update once we have more information to share.
Tess Greymane is Not Disenchantable for Full Value, Clearly a Mistake, Right?
Sigh. We had an amazing Hearthstone patch earlier today which gave us new Arena cards, plenty of bug fixes, and a new upcoming event that's going to give us a ton of dust and gold, but Blizzard really dropped the ball on Tess Greymane.
As you may be aware by now, Tess Greymane was changed in today's patch with the following adjustments.
- Tess will now replay hero cards with her Battlecry.
- Tess’s Battlecry is now limited to 30 cards, and will stop if she is silenced, killed, transformed, leaves the battlefield, or if any hero dies.
Do these changes ring a bell? It sure sounds like the nerfs we saw back in late 2016 to our favourite cuddly old god, Yogg-Saron, Hope's End.
- Yogg-Saron, Hope’s End now stops casting spells when it leaves the battlefield or is silenced.
The Change is the Same!
It should be painfully obvious at this point that these two changes are the same only we ended up getting a nice refund for Yogg if you wanted to partake in the disenchantment of our tentacled friend. Why is this different this time around? So far, Blizzard has not made a statement on the, very clear, nerf to the card and we're not sure if they are even going to.
One thing we can say for certain though is Mike Donais admitted Tess would work like pre-nerf Yogg when she was originally revealed. That right there admits their original intentions and they're now backing down on them.
Quote from Mike DonaisDoes Tess Greymane work like pre-nerf Yogg or post-nerf ?
Pre-nerf Yogg currently.
More Bologna
I wasn't letting them off that easy though. It still makes me, and plenty of you, sad that Blizzard refused to give us a dust refund for changing how Shudderwock worked. Although it was without a doubt a necessary change to preserve some sanity, many players crafted the legendary with the assumption it would go on forever. If people are wasting their expensive dust on a card, they should expect it to behave the original way. This is the whole reason why Blizzard does dust refunds in the first place - you can do cool stuff like that in a digital game.
We also need to bring up Lynessa Sunsorrow who received a major change in the patch which also is a total nerf. Previously, the buffs she received would come in the order you played them in, allowing skilled players to get crazy amounts of value out of her. Now everything is going to come down in a random order which could very easily turn out not at all in your favour. Oops. Another huge change to a card that wasn't properly handled.
While we're here, let's also go back to early 2016 when Mekgineer Thermaplugg's token, Leper Gnome, received a hit from the nerf bat. When a card calls out another exact minion or spell, and they change that card, it is a fundamental change which should have also qualified the card which spawns it a dust refund. This is different from random effects though, those pools should not move down the card chain.
But don't worry, they're giving us discounts on a pack bundle so we don't need that dust, just toss 'em some dollars!
Moving On
If they want to make this a thing going forward, that's fine, but cards need to have these same rules in place before they get released to the masses. Limit "stupid" combos to 30 maximum card plays, make things random if you're afraid of an effect. Most importantly though, give people refunds if you screwed up. Changing the card already admits you made a mistake with the original design of the card, now players need to be reimbursed for that.
Sincerely, one frustrated Hearthstone player to another.
Should Tess Greymane be Disenchantable for Full Dust Value?
Tell us what you think. Answer our poll below and leave a comment if you want to tell us more.
But why they nerfed my fun deck ? :(
Consistency. kappa They also nerfed kingsbane to make it inconsistent with other Deathrattle cards.
*never mind I was wrong*
it affects me not at all, as i don't own Tess. if i did, I wouldn't disenchant her even if they gave full dust value even though i also have no plans to play her, since i don't disenchant anything that's not extra. i say all that to say this: the change is the same change they made to Yogg, and they gave dust for disenchanting Yogg, so they should also give dust to the people that want to disenchant Tess. period.
i don't know that the Lynessa change warrants a refund however, although it is also a nerf in a few cases, as this change does move it more in line with similar cards like Shudderwock (and, afaik, Tess) whose "recasts" are also random order (again, could be wrong on Tess, as i've only ever seen her played a few times), and so is more plausibly categorized as a "fix"
i'm more upset about the nerfs to Jungle Giants (at least the Faceless Manipulator interaction; the Dire Wolf Alpha interaction i think is fine to change), and the Rummaging Kobold/Kingsbane change is frankly mystifying and logically incoherent, even though I don't think it really matters at all because who runs Rummy with Kingsbane?
I'd definitely disenchant her. Its basically a replacement for a better legendary.
I will keep my golden Tess regardless, its not THAT monstrous of a nerf, since you can control what cards you gonna add to her cardpool. But it is definitely unfair for casual players, no refund is bullshit.
I mean, I won't disenchant her anyway, but this is obviously some bullcrap, because "cinsistensy in Hearthstone" amiright?
Waiting for the inevitable onslaught of Reddit and Blizzard fanbois to flame this article. Sure it felt like the Lynessa one was VERY minor, but it still counts. And the others were CLEAR nerfs. Blizzard doesn't give a shit now that Brode is gone. They are going to tighten up the freebies for players I imagine. The golden pack thing is to placate the masses. This "deal" just helps them sell older packs as well.
Have you even checked r/hearthstone? People seem more outraged about the lack of refunds there than here. The entire front page is covered in just this and a bunch of bug reports generated by the new patch for good measure
nerfing a useless card omegalul
Does this mean if you've played a hero card she no longer replays all your rogue cards? Since they're treating the hero card as a "card from another class". That was sick :(
No, it means when u played DK rogue and then stolen DK paladin and then Tess, Tess didn't played DK rogue. Now it's fixed.
Just now on Kripp's stream someone asked if they should refund ppl for Tess, his awsner was "hell yes, but they probably wont do it". its just blatantly obvious when even a popular streamer sees Tess nerfed thus a refund is needed but Blizzard wont do it cause u know PACKS!!!!
Ben brode come back pls!!!!
Is it just me or does this make anyone else think it may have something to do with the next expansion? I mean nobody plays this card unfortunately so why change it now? Unless current testing of new cards is showing Tess to be a problem.
If it worked properly on release people wouldn't be as hyped for the new card and spend dust on crafting or money on packs. It's a business scheme, a lot of these broken cards are obvious and you can't tell me they don't come across these op combos during the test phase. It happens every patch if everything is balanced then they don't make as much money.
It's not a very good business scheme if the whole community ends up angry at you because you changed something later on without giving them a refund.
Also, I'm willing to bet that they'd make more money if they were better at balancing the game. Less people would leave a couple of weeks in because they won't react to very obvious bullshit which means more people still playing that may buy more cards. =)
Never said it was a good business scheme, but many companies are guilty of this at release, release of new content, and during major updates. I get the whole "to err is human" thing and that perfect balance is hard to achieve but come on sometimes these things are obvious. Not to mention if you have a small pool of testers then maybe it's time to increase their numbers to catch these pervasuve cards anf combos. I also have to respectfully disagree, imo high level legend players and professionals want perfect balance the general casual player just wants a deck that they can climb quickly with (i.e. a broken deck with limited counters or broken cards/combos that give it a higher winrate). Dont forget the opinions on this forum don't represent the beliefs of the entire player base for this game. = )
I’m sure Blizzard is making tons of mistakes and they could do much better if they listened to a tin god (forum moderator) like you.
BTW, I am part of a community that is angry over tne barrage of ads displayed on this site. Could you use your weight to do something about that?
You'll see much less ads ive the "tin god" you are talking shit to bans you.
