Quote from DaxxarriThe Monster Hunt has begun!
The Monster Hunt is The Witchwood’s new free, single-player mission content.
You’ll take on the role of one of four veteran monster hunters who are venturing deep into the Witchwood on Hagatha’s trail. Each of these heroes (or anti-heroes as the case may be!) has their own favorite tricks—a special hero power or ability that you’ll need to master if you hope to survive the hunt. Each time you go on a Monster Hunt, you’ll attempt to defeat a series of up to eight monstrous bosses. With each victory, you’ll build a stronger and stronger deck with the items you find—though if you should fall, you’ll have to begin your hunt again with a fresh deck. The trail ahead won’t be easy—the forest is full of fiendish foes! Each hunter also carries a grudge against a particular foe they’ve crossed paths with before—a nemesis, if you will. These are unique bosses that only that hunter can track down to fight.
You’ll want to go on a Monster Hunt with all four heroes because each offers a quest that, if completed, will earn you a The Witchwood card pack! Each quest completed will unlock the next quest in the series, but hunt swiftly—these quests are only available for a limited time*. If you can complete the Monster Hunt with all four hunters, you’ll finally have a chance to face off with the source of the evil in the Witchwood: Hagatha!
If you can defeat Hagatha with the power of all four heroes combined, and free the wood from her vile curse, you’ll earn the gratitude of Gilneas and the Monster Hunter card back!
Tess, Darius, Shaw, and Toki aren’t the only ones with an interest in the Witchwood! Learn more about each of them and the other dreadful denizens of the Witchwood in the Mysterious Missives series:

Similar boat. Went 6/8 first try with Toki. Less luck since w/ all. Had a buddy do 8/8 Shaw first try. A lot of RNG.
I really did not expect Monster hunt to be that good. Legit one of the most fun things in Hearthstone for me now.
cleared with Tess on 1st attempt with the passive that lets you hero power twice a turn at 1 mana. final boss was Captain Shivers, made him mill his kingsbane by filling his hand after he destroyed it with Gallywix on board, then played a million Beneath the Grounds from the hero power. fan of knives off the hero power also made azalina (at boss 7) a breeze. i see a lot of people saying they used jades, but i'm not sure if i was even offered any on the successful run. i took some jades on the 2nd or 3rd run to complete the quest and i felt like it made the deck much worse (though the bigger downgrade i'm sure was not having the double hero power passive)
also cleared with Crowley on the 1st run. took the passive to reduce cost of card in hand when using HP. picked lots of inspire cards and maiden of the lake. can't remember final boss off the top of my head, but i enjoyed the run very much.
shaw took 2 tries, lost on final boss the 1st time (glinda was #8 both runs). +2 health passive both runs was big. successful run i abused her cult masters to dig her deep into fatigue (which she didn't take much of since she had minions on the board)
toki also took 2 tries. lost on boss #7 the 1st time (to the boss that plays druid quest), beat future toki as final boss on 2nd run by milling her out by giving her an aluneth from blingtron LOL. both runs took mage quest, think passives on 2nd run were enemy minions cost 1 more and spells cost 1 less.
tried hagatha twice, very nearly beat her the 1st time, but she devolved my stealthed antonidas. 2nd run wasn't as close. will go back and finish tomorrow
Won Tess in the first try also. I choosed twice "cards that didn't start in your hand cost one less". Then just managed to have a copy of Cheap Shot and get another copy of it from Tess' Hero Power... They cost 0, you get infinite board clear... Not a single problem after that.
Is it a bug that Darius doesn't get a unique final boss? Because I got the FOrlorn lovers once (which i fought before as a regular bboss as Tess) and I've seen other people getting Azalina.
It may, or it may not since I encounter Capt Shivers with Tess once but couldn't see him on the later two runs. I played Toki twice and face Infinite Toki twice. Maybe the final bosses don't need to be the nemesis characters, they are just exclusive bosses for each hero.
I got lord godfrey
1 shot with shaw, 3 shot with darius (so long as you get the extra cannon damage it seems super easy but wasn't offered to me for first 2 runs), and 1 shot with toki. Still haven't won with Tess
So far tried only Tess, and "surprisingly" found having 6 Aya Blackpaw plus N'Zoth, The Corrupter in a deck (plus a few other jade cards) to be completely and utterly OP. Had to open another run just to get the quest. They really should have made the requirement 8 and not 10, IMO.
The last guy that uses Kingsbane was really easy once he put down a Fel Reaver and let me decide how I want to kill it. Milled his entire deck and then ran him out of cards with huge jades. Kind of reminded me of the Warlock Quest boss in the dungeon run, where I made him discard the quest and spent the entirety of the match laughing my head off about Blizzard still trying to make that quest viable.
Update: Finished on my second run with Darius. After playing with all 4, he's definitely the most fun. A lot of strategy placement and card picks.
Failed twice so far with Shaw. First time didn't get any hero power buffs and got maybe 5 battles in before having a worthless hero power made me lose, Second time got the +2 attach to hounds early on but lost on the last battle to Glinda when she ran me out of cards and dropped two Splitting Festeroot and I had nothing left. He seems like the least good hero to me, unless you really get that +2 hound attack as the first treasure.
Yeah I had doubled up on my health so was happy to take some hits from Fel Reaver whilst it just burnt through his deck. Very satisfying.
So far:
Tess was a slog. Good few mediocre decks. Nearly won my first run with the spellpower snowball guy and rocks, but got milled. Took a while before I got a solid enough jade list and didn't get rushed into oblivion.
Darius felt good. Pretty reasonable difficulty curve, his cannons were fun and tremendously op if used well. Actually managed to completely exhaust the big dudes and giants guy. Got Azalina for the last boss (thought it was supposed to be Godfrey?) and absolutely slaughtered her on my winning run. 3 damage cannon shots are nuts.
Shaw felt weird. First run ended in a harsh failure with the Bogwarden, since the whole zombie thing basically removes your hero power. Second run was just a really solid midrange value list with 3x Dire Frenzy, health buffs, and triple Call of the Wild. Completely annihilated all comers.
Toki was a riot. I won on the first run with the double cast passive and +3 spell damage. Hurling around Greater Arcane Missiles that plays like 6 Fireballs is hilarious. All the games were surprisingly close, but it was sort of just me turning into the spin. Full rng picks, make the biggest smashing effects. Way too fun to be reasonable. Had to go back to get the other two quest wins, drew with the first boss after I Spellslingered an Eye for an Eye into his hand. Truly special
Saving Hagatha for tomorrow though.
Edit: Hagatha was a breeze. +3 spell damage+scavenged Fireballs=ez game
I feel Tess is the easiest one. Cleared 2 times w/o any problems ( 1s time when I was in game and saw that The Hunt was already opened, and 2d when relogged and saw the quest I have to do) .But with others have some troubles and couldn't reach 8 wins.
After my first day of Hunting, I won with Tess on my 4th attempt, and Darius and Shaw on their 2nd attempts.
Completed them all and defeated Hagatha. The best tip I can give is to use the "All enemy minions cost +1 mana". In all of my winning atempts, got that treasure, and screw all the bosses really hard, all the tempo you need to fight them. Good luck in your hunt, adventurer!
How did you beat the stupid Boggwarden with Tess I keep getting screwed by that boss.
Probably you will need sticky fingers and jade shuriken, control the board and getting larger and larger jades. Never faced that boss myself though, but did see it in streams
I did face it, and that's indeed how I won. In fact, that's pretty much how I won my entire Tess run. It helped a lot that the first treasure I got was "your hero power costs (1) and you can use it twice a turn", so the strategy was Jade Shuriken (or Sinister Strike) -> discover a new one -> repeat pretty much all the time.
