Hamilton Chu, Hearthstone's Executive Producer, Also Leaves Blizzard Entertainment
In a tweet early this morning, Hamilton Chu responded to Ben Brode's leaving tweet with something very simple. Both of the ex-Hearthstone team members have set their Twitter bios to "Starting up something new!".
Quote from Hamilton ChuToday is my last day at Blizzard. 😢 Thank you for all the laughter and fun we shared. I will miss you.
Weird! It was mine too...
Not many were aware of Hamilton's involvement with Team 5 as he wasn't out there interacting with the community like Ben. Things he was responsible for though were writing most of the flavor text in Whispers of the Old Gods expansion and the strategic planning and business operations on the Hearthstone side of things. He also headlined Blizzard's strategic Initiatives Group which included business ops for World of Warcraft. It would appear that this isn't only a blow to Hearthstone, but also other areas at Blizzard.
Quote from Developer Bios - Hamilton ChuAs executive producer for Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Hamilton Chu provides the leadership and direction necessary to deliver players a Blizzard-quality gaming experience. In his role, Chu is responsible for strategic planning and business operations, providing management support for the development leadership, and generally tanking issues for the team whenever necessary.
As head of Blizzard’s strategic initiatives group, his other duties include leading business operations for World of Warcraft and managing Blizzard’s creative development department. Before joining Blizzard Entertainment, Chu served as a producer on Halo and Halo 2 for Bungie before going on to sell his soul to the MBA gods.
In his spare time, Chu enjoys reading comics, writing stories, and pwning noobs of all shapes and sizes.
Which beloved developer is leaving the Hearthstone team next to work alongside Brode and Chu?
I don’t know if is coinsedence but Reynad is preparing his new card game. If you know what I mean😜
Exactly my thoughts
His card game won't be out for another year or something along those lines - Brode also said that he were going to help starting a new company. (it would also be a pretty large stepdown from HS tbh as Reynads card game isn't even playable yet)
Probably won't happen (it would be awesome though, The Bazaar already looks cool so with someone like Brode to sell it they could take over the world) :P
That will be the SALTIEST card game EVER! lol
For people who thinks these leaves are signs of the end of Hearthstone;
Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm and Diablo had faced a lot of leaves too but games still stand and they are still developing and supporting those games. Stop being Doomsayer.
I am playing Hots, it's not dead.
Noone cares if diablo is dead or not, it is a single player game more likely and you can't say that game a dead game.
I don't know about starcraft's situation right now. I don't like play rts games online but I believe it is still alive.
And for all, blizzard supporting them.
you couldn't be more hilariously wrong
Diablo is actually the closest thing to "proof" that two devs leaving is a bad sign.
Diablo 2, one of the best games ever made. Blizzard fires the team. Diablo 3...there's a reason why I play Path of Exile instead.
"Dont venture alone Ben, bring Chu along.."
Sad...let's hope the best for them and for our game !
Balance and control meta incoming guys XD
i demand the new game they make be called brodestone
Then it will be Laughstone....
And every character on each card, no matter what it is, will be wearing a flannel.
Sure you did
Guys. They are leaving to start their own company. They have a vision of a game that Blizzard does not share, which is SUPER exciting to me because we all know how Blizzard likes to cater to the convenience plebs.
Told you that the game needs big refresh.
And I think that they came to a place with all those cards that they literally cant update the game anymore.
