Even though the comparisons to Hydrologist are a bit flawed (Hydrologist guarantees at least Repentance or Noble Sac), it is a very good card overall. With 7 secrets in the Standard Meta, getting the secret you want is 42.8% for any specific one, 67.2% for getting 1 of 2 different secrets.
So, depending on what you actually want AND get from the Keysmith, the value of it being in your deck can vary. Getting a free Ice Barrier is very low value in some match ups/decks while getting a 3rd (or even 4th) explosive runes could be immense value.
Right now, I'd say its a 4-star card right now, easily less if Mage gets more useless secrets over the next 2 years.
Would this work for exodia mage, or is more like mad scientist?
I don't think it will work for exodia mage because you are not playing the secret. It is more like mad scientist.
Wooooooooww Noice Carddd
Nothing much to say, it is pretty solid for it's stats and effect.
Can be seen in any kind of deck cause it's a 2/2 body with a secret no one expect to be played.
Even better in wild for Ice Block.
Don't tell me no one was reminded of this scene in Harry Potter:
i was too.
This card is basically "Discover a secret, play it, then summon a 2/2 minion," for 4 mana. In terms of value, it checks out. Mage secrets are worth 3 mana, a vanilla 2/2 is worth 1 mana (Enchanted Raven), so 4 mana to do both is pretty good.
Discovering secrets is pretty strong (per Hydrologist), as it's much harder to play around a secret that didn't start in your opponent's deck. However, that said, there isn't as much variety with the activation for Mage secrets compared to Paladin; (in Raven standard) 3 are activated by playing a minion (Mirror Entity, Frozen Clone, Explosive Runes), 2/3 are activated by playing a spell (Mana Bind, Counterspell, and if you count it, Spellbender), 2 are activated by having your hero attacked (Ice Barrier, Vaporize). And what's worse, you play around most of these the same way, which defeats the purpose of Discovering the secret, and also its effectiveness.
Ultimately, with how much inbreeding there is with Mage secrets, I think this card is weaker than Hydrologist, as the Paladin secrets are more unique and varied in their activation, which makes it much harder to predict which secret was picked (and in turn, more likely to play into).
6 if you get lucky with Primordial Glyph

Ice Block died for this

Really good card though, with the caveat that ice block was the secret this card would have most liked to find. Secret mage is losing some key cards, but fishing for an extra explosive runes or perhaps counterspell might sadly keep it around. And it fits in even mage as someone else said
Rather insane value. There's a chance for a "hit and miss", but still. It's a Secret that costs +1 mana with a choice of 3 and a 2/2 body attached to it. Even with Ice Block rotating it's still viable since some very good Secrets will remain. Also this takes the odds higher to get a specific Secret that will serve you best in your current matchup. Downside is the 4 mana cost slot fill. Still, I'm gonna be bold and claim that this is a 5*/5* card.
Good question. It may prefer not offering ones you have, or it may just be that you select one and give your opponent information.
It's probably best not to play it when you have that many secrets out anyway.
Compared to Hydrologist, this is at a much higher power level. Not only is it Discover a secret, but you get to play the secret too, all for 1 mana cheaper than a Hydrologist. Insane. Maybe completely busted levels of insane.
Correct me if I' wrong, but to play the hydrologist and its secret is only 3 mana? So its not cheaper?
yea but mage secrets cost 3 so with hydrologist it costs 5 instead of 4
It is actually the exact same power level value-wise. Hydrologist is a pally secret (1 mana) + 1 mana 2/2.Arcance Keysmith is a mage secret (3 mana) + 1 mana 2/2.Edit: Forgot that you have to play the secret with hydrologist, which make it a secret + 2 mana 2/2, Keymaker IS better value-wise, so you're right.
The Hydrologist + Secret in play costs alltogether 3 Mana, nothing cheapened. But the Mage Minion + Secret in play would cost 5 Mana (2 Mana Minion + 3 Mana Spell) but is discounted to 4. That's what he meant by that.
Sorry, I guess I forgot to specify. Hydrologist plus the secret is indeed 3 mana. But if this cost 2 and you had to play the secret, it would be 5 mana. Seeing as you get this for 4, it is cheaper than it would be with Hydrologist's effect.
