Annoyingly good. I'm not saying it's good, which it is, I'm saying it's annoyingly good. When you play a meme card, that meme card loses all value if it's actually good. (Such as if it's become good in a new meta, invalidating the deck you built around it as a meme.) This card has an insane effect, but it's effect is so insane that even if it's complete shit it's still just marginally good enough to be genuinely taken seriously in the event that it's played so as to be an actually meaningful card, therefore losing all meme value.
Annoyingly good.
that's good idea. worth thinking about
Even the reveal video shows how bad this card is (or could be) WTF blizz this supossed to get us hyped about the card :c
Last time people here said that To My Side! was the worst card ever printed. However once the entire Hunter card list emerged, people realized that To My Side! was actually part of a viable deck (Spell Hunter).
The same could happen again folks. There's a couple of Druid cards left to be revealed.....
Erm... To My Side! is at best a tech choice in Spell Hunter. A lot of spell hunters run exactly 0 copies of it.
To My Side is not that bad
me playing control mage
opponent plays this card
my turn, plays jaina cost 0
polimorph this card
thanks mate
Once again we have a situation where the card has a pretty interesting effect and concept and a majority of the community outright dismisses the card (hello Rin, the First Disciple).
I can understand why: an effect is pretty strong and there is a certain amount of risk associated with it. However, this card is incredibly meta-dependent and I can assume that it may be playable (not outright broken, of course) if the meta will be more aggro-oriented. Yes, this card gives your opponent a tempo benefit after you play this card and if an opponent manages to kill it straight away without losing tempo or a spending a lot of resources, it is a disaster. Aggro decks (paladin) right now do not tend to run hard removal and they would have to suicide the whole board into this in order to kill it and nullify an effect for you. So this card may be decent against aggro in some cases.
Also, I think this card is pretty skill testing, as it matters when you play it (opponent's hand size, read on the cards and your combo potential as well as a stage of the game matter a lot). So if you like to jam it on curve against cubelock, you are gonna regret it pretty fast, as doing a job of cheating out stuff for them just makes their game easier. If you would like to jam that on curve against, say, tempomage, you may get yourself some trouble too, since a random Pyroblast to the face will end a game for you.
Though I refuse to believe that this card is as bad as a lot of people try to make it because of Rin, the First Disciple which was thought to be unplayable but became extremely important in control warlock, which is a top tier deck now. Yes, it has taunt, but druid has the whole bunch of defense and armor gain, it is pretty much set for the challenge of playing this card, so, unless hard countered, this card may be playable in a real deck.
Also, this card is similar to Temporus in being a card with an extremely risky and extremely rewarding effect in a way that both of the cards are really skill testing. Also, I disagree that this card is necessarily worse than Temporus because of the fact that this card may carry hard against aggro even if your opponent has a board, whilst Temporus has too much risk attached by giving a second turn to your opponent allowing to build a board or try to burn you.
But yeah, we will have to wait for the whole set to come out and experiment with it. It's a really interesting card and I'm sure people will find a use for it, or, at least, will have a lot of fun with it.
I just can't think of the scenario where you would want to play this card in any match up. If you're ahead it gives your opponent the chance to catch up, if you're behind you're opponent kills it and gets further ahead, and if you're even you opponent can potentially use the advantage to get ahead of you.
The comparison to Rin isn't a very valid one. Warlock has board clear and healing and other tools to take advantage of Rin over the long run. And Rin gives absolutely no benefit to your opponent. I can't see anything that druid would want to play that would win them the game if their opponent can take advantage of it first.
There is still a possibility of Malygos Combo Druid working in standard with this card substituting Aviana Kun the Forgotten King combo. I mean, the advantage that an opponent gains after playing that is insignificant if you can just kill him next turn with the combo. As a possibility, why not? Druid has quite a bit of cycling, ramp and defensive tools. Even if your opponent plays a Voidlord for free, does it matter if you can combo kill him next turn? The scenario you have described is related to tempo-centered matchup scenario and the game is much broader than just this scenario.
Rin comparison was not in terms of the card effect but rather in terms of the initial reaction of the community. All I'm saying is that this card may be playable in a real deck. A very specific one, yes. Maybe not a tier 1 but I'm pretty sure people will make it work
You bring up a lot of good points except 1, druid probably has one of the highest healing/armor in the game atm.
But yeah warlock has insane board clears really powerful taunts, etc. This card is garbage lmao and that makes me pretty sad as a druid player, hopefully the other one wont be ass or will at least play into this weird archetype of "handruid"??? in some kind of powerful way.
BlessRNG papa brode
Here are some combo's I came up with off the top of my head
- Malygos + Faceless Manipulator and then you only need 4 more mana to cast Swipe 2x Moonfire for 36 damage. (cost 9 mana)
- Malygos 2x Swipe 2x Moonfire for 30 damage. (cost 8 mana, So you can hero power for 1 or 3 extra damage)
- Malygos 2x Faceless Manipulator 2x Moonfire for 32 damage. (cost 10 mana)
There's some more as well, biggest problem is sticking her on the board. Evolving Spores has about 2/3 chance to hit either stealth or can't target so there's not like we don't have ANY tools available. But yeah might want something better to make a competitive deck :)
Edit: Math...
Also you can Malygos into Ixlid, Fungal Lord, Faceless Manipulator Malygos (which leaves 3 Malygos on the board) and double Moonfire for 10 mana and 32 damage combo
But you get the point: this scenario is ambitious but realistic to pull off. It will not be the top tier deck (cause of you being right that you need something to make Aviana stick) but the dream of having Malygos Druid in Standard is real and we hopefully may still get a card that will support the deck idea
I mean that's kinda the same as just playing 2x faceless, but the more ways you can build the deck the better. Though I would argue 2xFaceless > 1xFaceless + 1xIxlid since just drawing just Ixlid without faceless does nothing. While faceless has combo's alone. But who knows perhaps you include all of them :)
Obviously terrible versus control but if it's an aggro meta it's not that bad giving your opponent 3 or 4 free Mana since you have spreading plague next turn
but often Aviana is not going to survive, so you are just giving your opponent free mana.
If this was accidentally leaked by Blizzard, will the site that was supposed to reveal it get a new card to reveal? I think something similar happened last reveal season and whoever got their card leaked got a new one. I hope so, because that would suck if you were told you would get to reveal a card and someone then took it away from you, even if it was just an accident.
