Some synergy in Wild with Barnes + Rhonin.
A hey, a new way to summon doomsayer
Oh look, another underpowered Mage minion.
This cards looks good on paper but the execution wont be good. You will be lucky if you are able to make it survive once you play this on turn 4. And even if you set up this minion with a following spell, you will ruin a lot of tempo to summon a 4 mana 3/3 (which is really bad) and to get a 2 mana minion that can even backfire on you, for example, doomsayer.
Although we have only seen 2 mage cards so far, and with the departure of many important cards for mage in standard (specially ice block) its looking like mage will be one of the worst classes.
.
How is a 4 mana 3/3 + a 2/2 (in average) a loss of tempo ? 5/5 of stats with only one spell + your opponent HAVE to kill it is really good. Remember how Vicious Fledgling could force your opponent into a weird/non-efficient turn because they can't leave it on board ? This is the same but it doesn't get stop by taunts.
I mean man imagine you have the coin. Turn 5 you can go Vex + coin + glyph + (most likely) spell from glyph. Three two drops and a must-kill minion on the board ! Among these two drops you can get taunts to protect the Vex, you can get card draw, you can get Pyros...
And yeah, sometimes doomsayer. But honestly, how often have you had or seen against you a doomsayer out of evolving a 1-drop ? I think I saw it only once on ladder, and at some point you must remember it, evolve shaman was everywhere.
Because Aluneth mage needed more help... Tempo mage now will be a bit scarier... Though I suppose it might just replace Kabal Crystal Runner which is rotating out.
Secret mage will die.
No Medivh's Valet, no ice block, no Kabal Runner, no Firelands Portal (some options have this in secret mage), Medivh (same as firelands).
It will adapt... Ice Block isn't critical for the deck, I was running it succesfully without it for some time... Firelands Portal and Kabal Crystal Runner will be replaced by Vex Crow. Problem now is, how to get a bit more burn, because we do lose Medivh's Valet, but I hope witchwood will have some cheap burn for mage...
I wouldn't say die, maybe they will change deckbuild totally. New cards + maybe they will replace firelands portal burn with another pyroblast. But have to admit Kabal Runner is a HUUUGE hit, it's gonna be hard for them to stick on board without those 0 mana 5/5s.
I think you might be right but time will tell. Maybe they will change to more midrange... with pyroblast finishers? Who knows.
I'm less convinced that the archetype survives without serious help. Aisu's right. No Medivh's Valet means you lose a super efficient burn + body. Kabal Lackey is huge on early game tempo, when you get him. Kabal Crystal Runner is a credible mid-game threat or a late game free body. I don't see how Vex Crow makes up for it. Firelands Portal is burn that it needs to do its job.
If the archetype survives, it's going to look extremely different and is almost certainly going to be slower.
With Aluneth I don't think you need an echo spell to make this work. I can see it being ok with arcane projectiles + frostbolt + glyph + another cheap spell. I mean imagine Vex Crow + Sorcerer's apprentice + arcane projectiles + glyph + spell from glyph. It makes a huge board for not so much Investment.
Oh but you wouldn't keep these cards in your hand until you got all this "combo". It's just that I see quite often mages ending up with a lot cards in their hand (especially if they go turn 6 Aluneth > turn 7 portal) ; so I was thinking you could have these cards in hand just with the Aluneth draw. I see this in a low-cost spell / burn your face mage deck.
And even if you only get one two-drop with it, it will look like a 3/3 and a 2/2 (like the 4 mana ramping druid minion). That's ok. And behind that point (two isn't really hard to do neither, especially with glyph) it's a pretty scary board development, and your opponent HAVE to kill the Crow otherwise it gets crazy. That doesn't seem hard to do with Aluneth in play.
Only problem is if you get this in your oppening hand. Can't really be played alone on turn 4. And if you don't draw Aluneth it could be hard to activate.
Idk, maybe I'm wrong. But Flamewaker was really good in tempo mage back then. This one cost 1 mana more, but instead of firing two damages randomly, you get a 2 drop. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, and Flamewaker wasn't that hard or clunky to use.
I really like this card, will probably fit into the secret deck in place of maybe kabal lackey or something like that
very nice card!!
