Deck Spotlight: Icy Winds
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
In today's edition of Deck Spotlight, we're going to be taking a look at an Aggro Mage deck which appeared this weekend from andrewc5120 and has been having quite a bit success on the ladder.
As far as crafting costs go, this deck is in the mid-range, locking in at just under 4,300 dust. It is incredibly accessible to all levels of players and offers a few substitutions which can help you out. I've personally been playing this without Leeroy Jenkins and Bloodmage Thalnos (swapped with Argent Commander x2) with above average win rates around rank 14, so don't worry if you don't have access to them! Keep the deck aggro centric and you should be good.
This deck was inspired by other decks created by HumanHand and Darkbladecr, but aims to optimize where possible.

This Week in Tournaments
Quote from KeganbeThe competitive community for Hearthstone has been growing steadily and there are a number of free to enter tournaments that are running each and every week. Some of these events have prize money for the top performers, but some are just for fun! If you have been laddering in our Test Seasons and are ready to make the leap to competitive play, take a look at the tournaments below to find one that you would be interested in competing in:
Is aggro Mage still viable?
Wish I was that good.
Should top plays only be considered if they are in ranked play? Not suggesting yes or no, but interested in a discussion. I understand this eliminates arena.
I'll give this deck a try as well.
Not a big fan of arcane golem though. I guess I'll replace them with Argent Commanders. But what to use instead of Thalnos then? Maybe tech in an ASO or a BGH?
general consensus is novice engi > other things since it gives you draw, which tends to nab you your win condition.
for everyone that doubt's my variation's staying power, check out saturo's and ItsOtter's variations on aggro mage. both are a bit safer, a bit slower, and have a more substantial mid-game. PLUS both players have taken their decks into sub-50 legendary on stream :)
ItsOtter's http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/45844-sub-30-legend-itsotters-icy-winds-variation
Saturo's http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/45379-saturos-new-meta-aggro-mage
i think the aggro mage deck will lack dmg or it will get controlled. i will try it tho.
it was actually developed to counter the current meta of hunter/zoo with very high win rates against both :D
Bloodmage replacing its self is a huge difference over kobolt. Basically gives you spell power for one turn without costing you a card. There is a huge difference between this and geomancer who is not worth losing a card for most of the time.
