Community Choice Awards: Year of the Mammoth Results
The results are in, people! Sure, the Oscars were just the other day, but now let’s get to the awards you really care about… the Community Choice Awards for the Year of the Mammoth. We had some close calls and some absolute blowouts (I’m looking at you Gul’dan). Thanks to the almost 4,000 votes we received, we can now finally answer the important questions: which expansion was best? Which quest is your favourite? And more! Read on to see which cards took home the gold and which lost spectacularly.
#1 - Best Expansion
No contest here. With a strong lead the winner of this category is Knights of the Frozen Throne with 56.8 percent of the votes. In second place we have Journey to Un’Goro with a respectable 30.1 percent. Last place goes to Kobolds and Catacombs with only 13.1 percent of the votes.
Doesn’t seem like Kobolds and Catacombs was a big hit with this crowd.
#2 - Hall of Fame Card You Miss the Most
This was a close one. The top three were all within 100 votes of one another. Looks like Blizzard really hit us where it hurts with this batch of Hall of Famers.
I tend to go for long periods of time completely forgetting about Wild, so this is my reminder to others like me: you can still visit these faves (and more) by playing Wild!
#3 - Most Painful Nerf
We’ve got a lot of Warrior players out there feeling the pain after the mana cost for Fiery War Axe was bumped up. The rest of the votes were pretty spread out here. Raza the Chained (12.6 percent of votes) and Innervate (10 percent of votes) came in second and third place respectively, but neither came close to Fiery War Axe with it’s 34.5 percent total.
#4 - Favorite Card Art From New Expansions
Wow! We got a ton of responses for this write-in category. It was awesome to see what everyone thought had the best card art, but at the end of the day there can only be one card (art) to rule them all and it is The Lich King. Congrats to the artist, Glenn Rane!
A special shout-out to the adorable runner-up Snowflipper Penguin and its artist Matt Dixon!
#5 - Most Annoying Deck to Play Against
It is now officially official…the most annoying deck to play against is Jade Druid. The people have spoken. Unfortunately, I doubt this new title will stop anyone from running this deck. Chin up, folks. With the new expansions coming out during the Year of the Raven we are sure to see some new, possibly even more annoying decks in the near future. Just think of the possibilities!
In second place, with 13.9% of the votes, we have Quest Mage, followed closely by another Mage deck, Secret Mage, in third place with 12.7 percent of the votes.
A note about the “Other” category: since this question allowed a write-in option we got a lot of responses with only a few (or one) votes. Where possible, we combined alternate spellings and misspellings of what were clearly the same deck (i.e. Cubelock, Cube Lock, and Cube Warlock). To keep this chart readable, any deck that had less than 20 votes was put into the “Other” category.
#6 - Favorite Quest
Separated by a mere 10 votes, the Warrior’s quest Fire Plume's Heart (21.6 percent of votes) just barely edges out Open the Waygate (21.4 percent of votes) to take home the gold. Wow. Talk about close!
With only 3.6 percent, The Marsh Queen is the least popular quest. Sorry, Hunters!
#7 - Best Death Knight
In a landslide victory, Bloodreaver Gul'dan wins! In a very distant second place is Frost Lich Jaina with only 16 percent of the votes, followed by Deathstalker Rexxar and Shadowreaper Anduin.
Least Popular Death Knight goes to Scourgelord Garrosh, who only got 29 votes.
#8 - Most OP Legendary Weapon
Who’s surprised? Not me. What is interesting is how the votes are split, looking at the chart it’s hard to tell there are more than four options. The top three dominate the pie, with Val'anyr coming in a respectable fourth place. And the rest? They’re those itty bitty slices you can barely see.
#9 - Class with the Best New Cards
Year of the Mammoth or Year of the Warlock? Once again, Warlock absolutely dominates. With over half the votes, it’s clear the community agrees that Warlock got the best additions this year. Priest comes in at a very distant second place with 18 percent of the vote.
Sorry Warrior it looks like it’s last place for you again with only 19 votes.
And that’s a wrap on this year’s Community Choice Awards. Now it’s time to get hyped for what the Year of the Raven may have in store for us. Thanks to everyone who voted!
“The most obvious answers to the most common questions you didn’t need a poll for”
I enjoyed reading this and I'm pretty sure many others did as well. Stop being a salty dick.
Raza nerf was needed
35 combined people think shaman or warrior got the best cards this year, really? did you even see the garbage cards those classes got this year?
specially shaman, meme every expansion, in unguru it got kind of good cards.. got mostly carried by the year of the kraken cards though.
in KFT it got 8/9 garbage cards, only the DK being playable.
in kobolds it got some cards that are good, but against a meme package that tries to summon alakir for 5 mana with a VERY hard requirement, and maybe even not worth it.
Warrior got taunt warrior synergy cards in unguru, it was a strong deck for exactly unguru, it just didn't compete against anything post that, in knight it got a dead man's hand, and a lot of weak self damage minions cards (only note worthy cards being Blood Razor and garrosh, in kobolds it got recruit warrior..while those cards are okeish they just aren't really good enough.. yet.
they definitely did that to try to be funny
I have been playing totem shaman right now, the alakir summoner is not hard to get off in the right deck, and the deck itself is not too bad, if the cards it loses next expansion get some replacements and we see a good late game totem card for shaman, I think it might be viable.
Worst year every year.
Skull isn't OP (I know it didn't win) but it's something I see said all the time. We have a plethora of weapon removal at our disposal, it doesn't go off until the next turn, and at 5 mana, it can almost feel dead if your opponent has swarmed the board. Side note, I don't think that K&C coming in third is a knock on it, overall it seems like it was a great expansion, Team 5 just did really well with Un'Goro & Frozen Throne.

2. Click "Tier1" tab on the right
that is a list fir wild, I don't understand anything about you post, please explain.
Are you referring to the warlock or jade druid? Because that jade druid list is more like control druid. It only plays 1 jade card.
Very fun and interesting reading! All welcome to the "Dark Side" (quote StanCifka)
What surprises me is naga's buff is considered a nerf.
So... according to the "community", quest rogue is more annoying to play against than big priest and cubelocks? Really? What can be more annoying than big priest and cubelocks? And who were the respondents, control warlocks? According to the pie chart only warlocks and priests took parts in the voting,
They probably meant pre-nerf quest Rogue, now it kinda sucks.
actually cubelock is not that annoying to me, big priest is up their for me, but cubelock is something I can deal with, I dislike secret mage, but it is possible to deal with using good predictive skills and testing of secrets. quest rogue is not high for me in terms of annoyance, everything I played beat it. jade druid or kingsbane rogue would probably take the cake for me though. even as someone who played a good amount of kingsbane rogue at various points. mill rogue on the other hand I understand why people hate playing against, but I personally always enjoyed both playing as and against it. I essentially disagree with the whole list they have there, except jade druid.
I'm a little surprised about KotFT being the most popular. Ungoro has an insanely diverse meta and was one of the most balanced expansions I've played since Beta. Knights...hell, Druidstone into Prieststone had me quit the game for 3 straight months. KaC had some missteps but after the creeper nerf if turned out a solid (if polarized) expansion. Can anyone tell my what it was about KotFT they liked so much and what it is about KaC they didn't? Honestly curious.
KotFT is when Pirate Warriors died and they added in Snowflipper Penguin. Seems enough to be the best for me.
I can see that, thanks!
Hi mate, my thoughts exactly. For me Ungoro was (and is) one of the best expansions. Introduced interesting mechanics and cards, it was mostly balanced and with healthy meta of good variety. They didn't get right all of the quest cards, but they did much worse with the Death Knights in Frozen Throne, as it is extremely obvious from the graphic.
I think the real reason is not really based on the quality of the expansion, but purely on subjective reasons - the most important one being that the Lich King/Arthas and the Frozen Throne, Frostmourne, etc. are one of the most famous parts of WC lore.
