Designer Insights: Upcoming Arena Changes - New Cards and Pick Rules
Prepare yourselves, Arena changes are coming! In a Designer Insights video today, Kris Zierhut, Lead System Designer, talks about new changes coming to Arena.
- The cards from BlizzCon are finally being added! They will be available for a limited time.
- Cards will be offered based on their relatively equal power level and not just by rarity. Commons could be paired with a Rare for example.
- Legendary cards will still be offered in sets of 3.
- Picks 1, 10, 20, and 30 will still contain cards that are of Rare quality or better.
- They are temporarily disabling the increased chance to see cards from the most recent expansion.
- Existing rules that affect appearance rates are unchanged.
- The new cards will leave the arena pool when the expansion hits.
The New Cards
A couple of things have changed since the original BlizzCon cards.
- The Priest card has decreased in cost from 3 to 2 mana.
- Wording on several cards has been adjusted but retain the same effects.

Mike Donais on Card Power
Quote from Mike DonaisWe had to take educated guesses on which power level buckets these go into when we added them.
Like most arena events they will be around for a while, and then they will leave. In this case they will leave with the release of the next expansion. I think they are pretty interesting cards in general.
the druid one seems really stupid for 3 mana
I love the idea of Arena, but have completely hated it in practice. I've never see Legendaries or Epics unless they are in my opponents deck. It's just not fun without powerful cards. Really glad these changes are being made.
In order to make arena less rng based.
1. Set a limit to class cards that can be added to the decks
2. Every rarity should appear in specific amount like 15 common, 8 rare, 5 epic, 2 legendary
Without this kind of rules rng increases and amount of strategy while drawing cards decreases.
This is not helpful because some classes have shit epics and good commons others are completely the opposite.
Some classes rely on neutral cards others rely on expansion cards others on nothing but class cards.
Each class should be treated differently, each card should be treated differently.
And I guess that's what they are doing by pairing cards according to Power Lv, not rarity

I would still want them to give better rewards in arena, specially rules around 4-6 and 8-10 wins I feel the amount of rewards there is unsatisfactory and also a rule about the random card given sometimes getting a golden common at high wins is a stab in the back.
also the jump from 6 to 7 being huge, while from 7 to 8 being really minor.
Better rewards would be nice especially for low amouts of win, with 3 wins you can still lose gold if you have bad rng(lowest reward possible is pack +45 gold. Like cmon man, you played 6 games, won 3, this would give you 10 gold in ranked(which is bad reward on its own), yet you are still losing gold in arena or gaining very little.

I wonder if Blizzard just developed its own power level ranking or if they juts ripped it all from HearthArena.
Probably based on pick rate. If a card is chosen 90% of the time it is offered while others are picked 1% of the time it's pretty easy to get some brackets for different cards.
That s mean heartharena stats kappa
