Patches the Pirate Loses Charge - Four Card Nerfs Coming in February
Four cards are being nerfed! These changes are not yet live and will be available in a February patch. They will all be disenchantable for their full value once to patch arrives. Please do not disenchant these cards until that patch - Blizzard won't help you out get the correct dust value.
- Bonemare now costs 8 mana, up from 7.
- Corridor Creeper now has 2 attack, down from 5.
- Patches the Pirate no longer has charge. His voice line will also be changing. (Source)
- Raza the Chained's effect now sets your Hero Power to 1 mana, up from 0.
We've got dedicated threads available to discuss each card nerf.

Quote from BlizzardIn the upcoming 10.2 update, we will be making balance changes to the following cards:
Bonemare - Now costs 8 mana. (Up from 7)
Bonemare has been quite strong in both constructed and Arena. It has a big, immediate impact on the board, and since it’s neutral, it’s been finding its way into a wide variety of decks.
Increasing its mana cost by 1 will give opponents more time to utilize powerful late-game cards to counteract Bonemare’s effect on the board.
Corridor Creeper - Now has 2 Attack. (Down from 5)
Due to the way that Corridor Creeper’s mana cost reduction works, it can cause big swings based on whether or not it happens to be in-hand at the start of the game.
Since it’s a very strong neutral card, Corridor Creeper has been played by a lot of classes. By lowering its attack, we reduce the overall swing potential and power level of the card, but still allow players who draw it early to benefit from having a low-cost minion to play when the game state is ideal.
Patches the Pirate - No longer has Charge.
As we move closer to the new Hearthstone Year, we had some concerns about allowing Patches to remain in his current state after moving out of Standard. Patches’ strength has caused almost every class to add some Pirates just to benefit from him, and his early game power forces control decks to include a good answer to him. This change should give Wild players more flexibility when building their decks.
Removing Charge will lower his power level, ensuring he shows up in fewer decks and allowing opposing players some additional time to respond to Patches, making him less “in charge” of the early game.
Raza the Chained - Now reads: Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, your Hero Power costs (1) this game.
In a similar vein to Patches the Pirate, we had some concerns about allowing Raza to remain in his current state forever. Raza is currently an important combo piece along with Shadowreaper Anduin, and can lead to games that rely heavily on drawing him by turn 5. Adjusting his Battlecry will lower his overall power level when combined with Shadowreaper Anduin in Standard, and keep his power level reasonable in Wild as we prepare for the new Hearthstone Year.
Once these card changes are live with Update 10.2 next month, players will be able to disenchant the changed cards for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you in the tavern!
You dont get dust for rotated cards
You get a full refund for two weeks after they're nerfed. After that it's back to the normal 400 for a legendary. Getting rotated out doesn't change anything.
if i am honest I feel like blizzard is doing an incompetent job with these nerfs.
I stand fully behind the patches nerf because I do not think it really hurts him that much. I never felt like that one damage was a complete game changer, but it will affect keleseth and captain which relly on getting the immediate impact with that charge.
Bonemare is still okay I geuss, I think it will still be a very strong card but just maybe not good enough for some decks anymore.
I do not like the corridor creeper nerf, yes its a strong card but I would have rather seen its cost increased or its health nerfed, not its attack because this deck just belongs in aggro decks.
For raza I feel like they butchered it. No, I do not like playing against razakus priest. But to completely kill the spirit of a card, that goes way too far, I think it would have been better if it said "YOUR CURRENT HERO POWER". now it has just become a worse justicar.
I think they also overlooked the power of cubelock, I feel like it has a decent powerlevel and is, fine to play against. But to leave it untouched is not that smart in my opinion. I feel like it will just become dominant.
I am inclined to agree with you with regards to Corridor Creeper and Raza the Chained The hearthstone dev team seems to have a really annoying habit of completely murdering powerful cards rather than reducing their power level while keeping them playable.
one thing for sure is that you are totaly wrong about patches, its NEVER just 1 dmg, and ofc at the end of the game, it does change a lot
Nerfs are fine, but warlock meta is coming.
Yeah everyone keeps screaming CubeLock, but it's really Warlocks in general. Warlock lists with only Lackey & Voidlord are still really strong and then there are a ton of other Warlock builds.
My money is on face hunter.
No nerfs to Lackey? Oh boy the only thing keeping warlock down were the crazy tempo decks running bonemare and creeper, I'm totally fine with the nerfs but now warlock will become oppressive...
Very happy with the bonemare and creeper nerfs. Sad about the raza nerfs because he's such a cool card. Probably makes him unplayable, but we'll see. Also surprisingly a little sad about the patches nerf although I've never played him except for QR since I don't play aggro because he's actually a cool card too. I don't think patches himself was the problem so much as the fact that early drops in general are way too powerful/efficient for their cost and he led to them snowballing even more powerfully
After reading this, i instantly crafted patches just so i can put him in a deck with two golakka crawlers so i can enjoy torturing that ugly ******* squid for a few days, absolutely free.
Why they didnt nerf patches when he was in cancer pirate warrior? Anyway thanks for 2 free legendary in new exp.
they wanted to wait for the yearly rotation
If your salt got so bad that it caused you tell yell at a screen until some cards got nerfed, you need to talk to someone.
WAaAHaHhaHahahh PAtches NERf
(corridor creeper made sense sort of imo)
YEP WARLOCK OP now...
I still have 5 copies of Corridor Creeper in my collection, because I knew it had to be nerfed in the future. Nice!
I wish they nerfed something from Cubelock aswell. Maybe change Voidlord from a 3/9 to a 3/6, or summon 2 Voidwalkers instead of 3. I also think that Dark Pact should be nerfed from 1 mana to 3.
Wow this is pretty good, but the next problem is gonna be cubelock... so i guess i'll be playing some good ol' millrouge in the upcoming weeks☺...
Interesting question on Cubelock. Which card would you nerf? I like the power level of all the cards on their own with one exception. Possessed Lackey. This is a card that has no home anywhere in arena or constructed without cheating out Doomguards and to a lesser extent Void Lords. I think Skull of the Manari is fair, but Possessed Lackey isn't. That said, it'll be interesting how Cubelock fares once every deck is able to tech against it without worrying about Raza, Patches, and Creeper.
Dark Pact. This is some serious healing AND deathrattle activator. Or tech more Skullking Geist for now.
