Patches the Pirate Loses Charge - Four Card Nerfs Coming in February
Four cards are being nerfed! These changes are not yet live and will be available in a February patch. They will all be disenchantable for their full value once to patch arrives. Please do not disenchant these cards until that patch - Blizzard won't help you out get the correct dust value.
- Bonemare now costs 8 mana, up from 7.
- Corridor Creeper now has 2 attack, down from 5.
- Patches the Pirate no longer has charge. His voice line will also be changing. (Source)
- Raza the Chained's effect now sets your Hero Power to 1 mana, up from 0.
We've got dedicated threads available to discuss each card nerf.

Quote from BlizzardIn the upcoming 10.2 update, we will be making balance changes to the following cards:
Bonemare - Now costs 8 mana. (Up from 7)
Bonemare has been quite strong in both constructed and Arena. It has a big, immediate impact on the board, and since it’s neutral, it’s been finding its way into a wide variety of decks.
Increasing its mana cost by 1 will give opponents more time to utilize powerful late-game cards to counteract Bonemare’s effect on the board.
Corridor Creeper - Now has 2 Attack. (Down from 5)
Due to the way that Corridor Creeper’s mana cost reduction works, it can cause big swings based on whether or not it happens to be in-hand at the start of the game.
Since it’s a very strong neutral card, Corridor Creeper has been played by a lot of classes. By lowering its attack, we reduce the overall swing potential and power level of the card, but still allow players who draw it early to benefit from having a low-cost minion to play when the game state is ideal.
Patches the Pirate - No longer has Charge.
As we move closer to the new Hearthstone Year, we had some concerns about allowing Patches to remain in his current state after moving out of Standard. Patches’ strength has caused almost every class to add some Pirates just to benefit from him, and his early game power forces control decks to include a good answer to him. This change should give Wild players more flexibility when building their decks.
Removing Charge will lower his power level, ensuring he shows up in fewer decks and allowing opposing players some additional time to respond to Patches, making him less “in charge” of the early game.
Raza the Chained - Now reads: Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, your Hero Power costs (1) this game.
In a similar vein to Patches the Pirate, we had some concerns about allowing Raza to remain in his current state forever. Raza is currently an important combo piece along with Shadowreaper Anduin, and can lead to games that rely heavily on drawing him by turn 5. Adjusting his Battlecry will lower his overall power level when combined with Shadowreaper Anduin in Standard, and keep his power level reasonable in Wild as we prepare for the new Hearthstone Year.
Once these card changes are live with Update 10.2 next month, players will be able to disenchant the changed cards for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you in the tavern!
This change is so bad for f2p player like me... so they better give us compensation for this.
they compensate you by allowing you to dust for full value
You're f2p and want compensation?
k.
HAHAHA
To be honest it was your fault to buy packs of an expansion about to rotate in 3 months if you don't care about wild. If you really needed those card you could might as well just crafted them
Well, you know there is a Wild mode also? So, yeah, they are making those changes because of that mode.
pathetic and bad nerf
Well, 4000 dust for me, gonna miss Raza, not that I like to play razakuz, I'm more of a paladin/warrior/dragon player, but, the card itself was nice, I hope to spend the dust properly in some new deck ideas.
feel bad about raza loved the design of that card shame the combo made blizzard think raza needed the nerf would rather shadow reaper was nerfed raza was good in just a normal priest highlander control deck
some of those were obvious for the cards BUT not the way blizzard made it !! :O for raza and creeper it is too much , on the other hand patches and bonemare is somehow fine with me
Damn, Blizzard. Show me on this doll where the Corridor Creeper hurt you. You didn't just nerf it, you erased it!
And the only question is will Blizzard change sounds when Patches is out? ("I'm in charge now!") Will it be "I'm on board now!" ?
Mike Donais said on the subreddit that they found alternate voice lines for him and were implementing those.
Here are my predictions:
Patches - Patches will show up in less decks, but will still be fairly common for 2 reasons. First off, he still has insane synergy with Keleseth and Southsea Captain. Secondly, any deck that is interested in playing a 29 card deck will play Patches just to thin their deck. Pirate decks will still love to play Patches, but I think we will see a lot less decks playing just a few pirates so that they can get Patches.
Bonemare - Bonemare will still be strong in arena, but it will be cut in ranked. Giving your opponent one more turn to clear the board before you can get value out of your Bonemare is a big deal. Still a decent card, just not unfair enough.
Corridor Creeper - This card is totally dead now, which I'm fine with. If it had been a 3/5 or 4/4 it might have still seen some play, but losing 3 stats is a big deal. Corridor Creeper is also impacted by the nerf to Patches. If neither player plays Patches, then Corridor Creeper could take an extra turn or two to be playable. There's a small chance its still good in Wild Aggro Paladin due to Call to Arms, Haunted Creeper, etc. But I wouldn't count on it.
Raza - This change will slow down Highlander Priest a lot and make OTKs much more difficult to set up. The deck will probably end up being tier 2 and will become more about defeating your opponent across 2-3 turns. Jade Druid and Control Warrior will now have a lot more time to out armor the Priest's damage. On the flip side, Aggro decks wont have to worry about the Priest player getting a free heal every turn. This is a really good quality of life change for the future of wild.
All in all, I'm very happy with these changes. These cards have had their opportunity to dominate Hearthstone. Now its time for something new!
Spot freaking on with every prediction; couldn't of said any of it better myself!
The only reasonable nerf is for Creeper. Bonemare will be playable on 8 as well, and Raza and Patches will disappear forever in wild in 2 months.
They'd better think about nerfing warlocks (lackeys, voodlords, cube, dark pact, man'ari etc.) as all this sht will stay with us and after rotation for 2 more years.
And tbh i thought they would make creeper 3/3, but 2/5 seems even more unplayable;)
Well, i did like the changes! Now nerf cabalist tome, that 2 spell mage always use (forgot the name), and nerf that 4/8 taunt deathrattle from priest
Do you get the same amount of dust once they are nerfed vs when they rotate out?
