Patches the Pirate Loses Charge - Four Card Nerfs Coming in February
Four cards are being nerfed! These changes are not yet live and will be available in a February patch. They will all be disenchantable for their full value once to patch arrives. Please do not disenchant these cards until that patch - Blizzard won't help you out get the correct dust value.
- Bonemare now costs 8 mana, up from 7.
- Corridor Creeper now has 2 attack, down from 5.
- Patches the Pirate no longer has charge. His voice line will also be changing. (Source)
- Raza the Chained's effect now sets your Hero Power to 1 mana, up from 0.
We've got dedicated threads available to discuss each card nerf.

Quote from BlizzardIn the upcoming 10.2 update, we will be making balance changes to the following cards:
Bonemare - Now costs 8 mana. (Up from 7)
Bonemare has been quite strong in both constructed and Arena. It has a big, immediate impact on the board, and since it’s neutral, it’s been finding its way into a wide variety of decks.
Increasing its mana cost by 1 will give opponents more time to utilize powerful late-game cards to counteract Bonemare’s effect on the board.
Corridor Creeper - Now has 2 Attack. (Down from 5)
Due to the way that Corridor Creeper’s mana cost reduction works, it can cause big swings based on whether or not it happens to be in-hand at the start of the game.
Since it’s a very strong neutral card, Corridor Creeper has been played by a lot of classes. By lowering its attack, we reduce the overall swing potential and power level of the card, but still allow players who draw it early to benefit from having a low-cost minion to play when the game state is ideal.
Patches the Pirate - No longer has Charge.
As we move closer to the new Hearthstone Year, we had some concerns about allowing Patches to remain in his current state after moving out of Standard. Patches’ strength has caused almost every class to add some Pirates just to benefit from him, and his early game power forces control decks to include a good answer to him. This change should give Wild players more flexibility when building their decks.
Removing Charge will lower his power level, ensuring he shows up in fewer decks and allowing opposing players some additional time to respond to Patches, making him less “in charge” of the early game.
Raza the Chained - Now reads: Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, your Hero Power costs (1) this game.
In a similar vein to Patches the Pirate, we had some concerns about allowing Raza to remain in his current state forever. Raza is currently an important combo piece along with Shadowreaper Anduin, and can lead to games that rely heavily on drawing him by turn 5. Adjusting his Battlecry will lower his overall power level when combined with Shadowreaper Anduin in Standard, and keep his power level reasonable in Wild as we prepare for the new Hearthstone Year.
Once these card changes are live with Update 10.2 next month, players will be able to disenchant the changed cards for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you in the tavern!
WTF, Blizzard? They are rotating in few months, and you are nerfing'em now?
I mean... I will get more dust, but... Isn't it stupid to nerf cards after 1,5y?
It makes some sense (not all, but): In that way you produce great combos that will lead standard, but once their time have passed you lower their level to not detroy Wild forever and ever.
They are thinking about wild too
I'm using Coridorr Creeper in my Spietful Summoner Priest and I'm not fully surprised by the nerf: it's very effective, almost all the most common deks are using it. But reducing it to a 2/5 card is way too severe, I think it will disappear. I also wonder how did they playtest the card if it has to be nerfed 2 months after the release...
Instead I'm quite shocked by the nerf of Raza. I now that many players are happy for this but this nerf do not only hit the card but a whole deck archetype. Good news for Wild players, bad news for me.... I will have to dust my Highlander Priest. :-(((
I'm rich now 6k dust :DDD
I can already see ladder full of warlocks now and Big priest will be back to tier 1. tempo mage is even stronger now with other aggro, tempo decks losing a lot of aggresive power.
they simply nerfed all aggro tempo decks (except tempo mage)
I'm NOT in charge here!
did anyone else do backflips when they saw this news? I know people who play nothing by Raza priest are crying right now and those tears are so bitter Sweet. The Creeper nerf tho is very surprising, cause going from 5 power to 2 just destroys the card. Bone mare being 8 mana might make it see less play, which okay with me.
With this, they showed that they actually care about Wild! Great nerfs, super happy about it. Also they gave us free 1600 dust because Patches will basically be unplayable.
Arrogant and despicable Blizzard. When MSoG was released, the ladder was filled with pirate warriors in just A FEW HOURS after the expansion launch. As time passed, more and more classes added Patches to their decks and started playing the pirate package. And now, two months before the next Standard rotation, A YEAR AND A HALF after MSoG launch they finally nerf Patches?! I legitimately hate Blizzard now. We were suffering the onslaught of this abomination for more than a year, and now they nerf him right before he goes to Wild. It's like a spit in the face, a mockery aimed at showing Blizzard's player base how they despise us. And along with Patches, they nerf Raza, again, right before the Standard rotation, even though it was crystal clear that Raza+Reaper combo is busted in two weeks after KotFT launch. Though I admit Bonemare and Creeper nerfs are totally admirable and necessary, these two nerfs to MSoG legendaries are just a taunt to all of us. I'm honestly surprised I don't see Jade Idol nerf in this list, it would fit in this theme perfectly.
They've waited up to the very last moment so that more players spent their money on packs to craft these overpowered cards and now they nerf them to look better in the eyes of Hearthstone community.
F*** you Blizzard.
Yeah or maybe it wasnt about spitting in your face but about keeping the wild format playable? Who knows...
I totally agree with you. Bli$$Ard has shown it's true nature.
Thats because patches is used wayyyy more now than he was. Im not saying the pirate warrior era was good, it was fuckng trash, but now patches is EVERYWHERE! Then it was only warrior that really used patches, now every class runs patches. Blizz probably didnt nerf it then because they knew more defensive cards were coming into play that stomp warrior. I dont know your rank, but aggro presence has has significantly decreased from 10 down since KOFT. Now its mostly tempo and control/combo decks now
Blizz has already said that they need more than a card just being really good before they nerf it. Take Corridor creeper for example, there are only two decks in the meta that dont run it AND its really good
You realize that everyone that has these cards gets full dust from them right? If you spent 1600/3200 to craft either Patches or Raza you get all of your dust back.
Annnddd.. jade drood and cubelock will rule all over the ladder
Raza got nerfed FeelsAmazingMan
Hmm interesting.. The Bonemare nerf is very fair imo, I actually think it's very balanced now. I also like the Raza-nerf. Don't really care about the corridor creeper, haven't actually gotten around to crafting them yet, but I doubt they will be creeping in any corridors after the patch hits. I think the Patches-nerf is very interesting and the power of the nerf really depends on your archetype. An example is Tempo Rogue which should get hit pretty hard with this nerf, as they lose some damage, especially after keleseth buff. But in a deck like Miracle Rogue which is my preferred deck, the nerf doesn't really hurt that much considering I'm mainly using it to make my deck a card smaller. I do think his summoning quote should be changed, cause he ain't in charge anymore. The only thing I'm missing are some warlock nerfs, cause I don't find the need to run 2x Spellbeakers in everydeck too interactive.
I like everything except Patches. Feel like he still should have charge
They just want kill the card :/ sad but true...
