Nefarian Rises is This Week's Brawl!
Join forces with a friend to take down Nefarian. Again. Anduin teams up with newcomer Morgl in this new cooperative Tavern Brawl!
Trivia
- This brawl debuted on August 17, 2016.
- This is the second time we've seen this brawl.
- The brawl was briefly demoed at gamescom 2016 before it came to live realms.
How it Works
- You and another player will play as either Morgl the Shaman or Anduin the Priest.
- Nefarian, a 200 health boss with taunt, will swap sides of the field so that you will attack him on your turn.
- You and your friend need to work together to defeat Nefarian.
- At the end of each player's turn, Nefarian gets to cast a random spell from his collection.
- When Nefarian hits 160 Health, he will cast Elemental Eruption and gain 5 Attack.
- When Nefarian hits 60 Health, he will cast Twisted Light and gain another 5 Attack for a total of 10.
- You cannot bypass any of Nefarian's phases. If a 4 damage attack would take him from 162 health to 158, it only deals 2 damages putting him at 160 health.
- If at any point your side has 7 minions on it, Nefarian will destroy them all since he can't move into a slot.
Strategy
There's a lot of different ways you can win, so we're going to give you some general tips.
- Don't get too attached to your cards. Nefarian is able to swap hands between players through Bamboozle.
- Anduin's heal is essential for the fight. It can help keep minions alive on either side of the field to prevent deaths via Flame Missiles. Anduin does have the ability to upgrade his hero power via Justicar Trueheart.
- There are some great targets for buffs. Personally, I had an upgraded Raid Healer which had multiple health buffs and a sweet Inner Fire. That card alone kept us alive.
- Morgl is able to clone Anduin's hero power through Sideshow Spelleater. Wait until Anduin plays Justicar Trueheart before doing it.
- Morgl also has two copies of Windfury. If Anduin can pump up a card, it may be worth giving it some speedy attacks!
- Before you take him down to 160 Health, try and make sure any strong minions of yours won't die to the AOE 4-6 damage. Buff, buff, buff!
- Everything is probably going to die when Nefarian hits 60 Health due to the 30 damage AOE he puts out. I had a minion at 26 Health when my "friend" pushed him over the edge. >.>
- With so many healing options available, don't be too afraid of fatigue. Draw those cards!
- Dragonscale Warrior, a card Morgl has, is another amazing place for buff cards since it also lets you draw.
- Early game you definitely want to go for cards with draw or healing.

Other Good Buff Targets
- Stoneskin Gargoyle - Heals back up to full? Sign me up!
- Fjola Lightbane - Will survive any phase transition thanks to Divine Shield.
- Bolf Ramshield - With a beefy Bolf, your hero won't need to worry about taking damage ever.
- Intrepid Dragonstalker - Getting this out early is amazing. She gains extra value and "levels up" very quickly.
- Dragonscale Warrior - Tons of card draw to chew through your deck.
Nefarian's Spells
Nefarian has access to several special spells. When a spell has two versions it means it is played in the final phase. The token, Explosive Rune, has also been included for easy reference.
Special Player Cards
There are some unique Tavern Brawl only cards available to players.

Discuss This Week's Brawl
Head on over to the discussion thread on our forums to discuss this week's brawl.
These boss battles need a heroic mode, I can’t seem to lose because there are too many great targets for buffing.
not that you’ll need it buuuut raid healer, swap hands, convert to get second raid healer on shaman side = infinite heals
yeah , when your teammate doesn't know how the brawl works then it's kinda challenging , but if he does then it's too easy.
I wish they had more combos than Priest-Shaman
I love the *idea* of this brawl. The problem is that I keep getting paired with players that go all in on a minion with less that 30 hp before the final transition and we lose horribly. Even better when that happens due to the fact we get bamboozled 6 times in a game and the "partner" uses all the combo pieces (other than divine spirits. both were in the last 4 cards of my deck) to nuke Nef to 60 and wipe the board. All I can do is /facepalm.
I tried doing this brawl having not read any articles about it, having not done it last time they had it, and knowing nothing about it other than the pop-up description. I never even had a chance to learn the intricacies about how it worked because my first three teammates all forfeited as soon as I did something that wasn't according to their game-plan, even before dropping Nefarian to 160 health. I mean the first person forfeited when I dropped a buff on a minion that apparently they didn't want me to buff (because I apparently was supposed to know all the minions that were in each deck already). I like the idea of cooperative Tavern Brawls but you need to be able to communicate with your teammate, I shouldn't have to google how the fight works and what to expect just to be able to play it. Of course it was easy after a google search, but it took some of the fun out of it.
HOW CAN THERE BE SO MANY COMPLETELY RETARDED PLAYERS?!?!?! omfg I seriously didn't understand how other complained so much about getting matched up with bad players, but I am absolutely baffled about how stupidly bad everyone I have been matched up with so far during my first 6 tries have been....it's like they are trying to lose! -.-
Anyone else hitting a bug? When the 2 mana card the heals 8 or draw 2 for both players. The card back gets stuck on the screen. Then you can never play another card and have to concede.
YESSS!!! I stopped playing because of it. I felt bad having to concede with out telling the other person a reason. We always did good too.
I ran into that bug a couple times. I didn't realize it was the heal/draw card making it happen but I also managed to find a way to break it so I hadn't needed to concede because of it.
I found that if you simply pick up a minion on the board and then right click to cancel the action the card back goes away and you can play again as normal. I suppose that would still put you in the position of having to concede if the bug happened and your board was empty but at least that should let you avoid most of those losses by playing around the bug.
happened to me about 3 times, I just restart the game and the game reconnects to my match really quickly .
Totally bullshit boss, your mate gotta play perfectly
With Windfury. Not bad.
Nice work, I didn't get a screenshot, but I had a very similar finish. Very satisfying combo.
Had an interesting game with a priest player who didn't seem to get co-op at first, but gradually realized i was there to help. We won thanks to me giving his fjola resurrect deathrattle early on as a gesture to help eachother, it really carried the game afterwards as well as my windfury gargoyle. Had that weird interaction where nefarian does his 30 damage boardclear but gargoyle healed back up from -15 instantly. Fjola had divine shield so we just kept pummeling.
No inner fires were played, but justicar and spelleater made sure we had tons of heals.
Was a very fun experience in the end, felt a bit challenging as well since neither played too well but used what we had and actually made it.
I got a very weird interaction with Stoneskin Gargoyle, i got nefarian past 60 hp so he dealt 30 dmg to everyone and my friends gargoyle was at 1 hp so it went to -31 but then healed all the way back up to 6 (had power word shield)
Quest: Win 5 Tavern Brawls. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
@Edit - got some good teammates and finally completed it
Why, oh why do I have to get the Tavern Brawl quest this week?
Any other week would have been fine, but it's the only one where you hope, not to play "against" one of those rare new players. But of course, my partner keeps messing things up, wasting all buffs and minions before the final phase and then concedes before I can at least try to still win.
All I can do is hoping I get the Priest and then I have to pray Nefarian doesn't switch hands at a critical moment.
Already busy for 2 hours to get those 5 wins.
I really love these types of brawls, gives a new way to play, but I honestly can hate some of the partners I get. I really wish for this brawl you have a way to communicate with your allies, especially when they do something so dumb multiple times.
I had 1 partner end up milling me by playing 2 coldlight oracles back to back making me lose 2 key cards. I didnt bother playing the rest of that one. then another partner wasting heals on my stone gargoyle when it was at 14 hp, the thing heals at the start of my turn, nefarian cant do 14 damage to the minion, unless you pop his phase. and then I had another partner play northshire cleric when he was fatiguing when I had my stone gargoyle out and lets the northsire cleric live for 2 turns while healing her instead of just running it into nefarian so it would die.
I can understand that people who play brawl may be new but all it takes is a second to read the card to see what it does. and if we had a way to communicate with them, we could have taught them why their play was extremely bad
I really enjoyed this matchup. The first game I didnt realize we were on the same team until halfway through. So my 2nd turn I cooperated from the beginning and went very well. Buffing the self healing Gargoyle really helped and giving it the ability to resurrect itself also.
You didn't realize you were on the same team? How? Did you not read the description?
