The Wonderful Blizzard World - Hearthstone Gets Featured in the Latest Overwatch Map
Overwatch received a new update earlier today which included a brand new map in the rotation which was debuted at BlizzCon last year, Blizzard World. The map is what the Overwatch Team thinks of when they consider what a Blizzard theme park would look like. All of Blizzard's franchises are present on the map and for any Blizzard fan, it's truly epic.
Since we're more about Hearthstone than anything else, we're just going to be showcasing much of the Hearthstone features within the map, though some are also shared with the Warcraft universe. So, what does Hearthstone have in Blizzard World?
- The Hearthstone Tavern - This is where the attackers spawn and there are plenty of objects to mess around with.
- Snaxxramas - A food shop equipped with some very interesting looking meaty legs. Whatup Curse of Naxxramas!
- DEATH WINGS - NEW! These chicken pieces will set your mouth alight.
- The Hellscream - Garrosh's rollercoaster. Can you survive?
- Khadgar's Herbs - Not accessible, but maybe that's a good thing?
- Statues - Alleria Windrunner and Khadgar have their own statues near the Hearthstone Tavern.
- Hearthstone Boards - Objects you can flip and see fireworks w/ victory sound effects.
- Blackrock Mountain - A roller coaster seen on a poster within the Hearthstone Tavern.
Ultimately, the map is amazing and if you have Overwatch you should definitely login to check it out. If you get near the hearth within the tavern you can hear some very familiar music. There's also a treasure chest near the hearth which spits out coins if you attack it.
SNAXX OUT!
To celebrate the new Overwatch map, Blizzard World, which features plenty of Hearthstone goodness, we've decided to host a special card design competition to let your creative juices flow. This is outside of our normal card design competition so look forward to another one of those later this week. If you're interested in entering, our criteria for cards is quite simple!
- Your card must be a minion, spell or weapon
- Your card must represent or allude to a character from another Blizzard IP besides Hearthstone and World of Warcraft
You can enter the competition by reading the rules and responding to our SNAXX OUT Submission thread. If you want to discuss entries from competitors, we've got a dedicated discussion thread. GOOD LUCK, HEROES!
Overwatch Questions
While we're on the subject of Overwatch, we'd love to ask you a few questions about the game.
I only play on free weekends so there is not much I can say, It was fun but I prefer hearthstone and less wooo! wtf! shooters
I want to visit a real warcraft theme park!
Those Death wings look delicious.
I wanted to vote ‘I never open loot boxes because they are only cosmetics’
I wanted to vote ‘I stopped playing because it was never fun to begin with but I didn’t mind paying Blizzard for the game to check it out. Hearthstone is my shit.’
Don't spend money on games!
Agree. I play Overwatch every now and then, only in casual.
I have never opened a single loot box. I have about 90 unopened boxes waiting.
Wow I would never expect someone would not open the loot boxes :o
This guys are all newbies, playing with two copies of Murloc Tidehunter in their decks...
Really can't blame them, they spent all their money on park admission.
So the new map is basicly Blizzard's Disneyland
First Blizzard game never brought to the Mac so don’t play Overwatch. FeelsMacMan
I use bootcamp to run it on mine :p although I'm not sure how any Mac will handle it.
I ran it at 30fps on a macbook pro w/ Bootcamp. Runs at 200 FPS on an iMac w/ boot camp. The mac graphics cards aren't spectacular, but they aren't bottom tier either, so if you really want to stick to the apple brand you can.
As nice as this new map is, it's gonna take more then that to get me back into that shitty loot box casino.
The blessing and the curse of Overwatch is that it really requires a lot of teamplay and coordination for you and your team to be successful. You need to have a team composition that works well together and you need to be able to adjust it in order to counter the opposing team's hero picks - not to mention the communication during the game. Unfortunately this isn't that easy concept to grasp and it's way over the head for many of our fellow Internet gamers. When you see people instapicking 4 dps characters you basically know the game is lost from the start. Yet the game forces you to suffer through all the pain because you get penalized for leaving early. Of course this doesn't happen every game (thank God!) and I'm exaggerating here a bit just to bring my point through. Also I'm usually the lonely healer in these games which makes it twice as bad. That's the biggest complaint for me anyway. I basically like the game itself but I often find myself quitting from sheer frustration after playing some rounds of competitive.
And I can just go on and on and on about how the format of combat just isn't fun. It feels less like a team based arena shooter and more like a first person MOBA. Let me make it perfectly clear, Overwatch just doesn't work as a competitive game or a fun party game. It's bland and lacks substance, with new content few and far between. It's just a massive loot box casino, which is one of the reasons it got popular in the first place. There's a reason many people call it "Overmeme," or "Overtrash," or "Overrated." It's mired in bad game design, but gets away with it because it's Blizzard, and they can do no harm right?
