The You've Fallen for my Counter Card Design Competition - Season 7!
Entries are open for this week's Card Design Competition! This week's theme is "Counter-Intuitive" and requires you design a card which uses the keyword Counter. This is also our first competition of SEASON 7!
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
- Your card must use the keyword Counter . i.e. it must actually Counter a spell, not a minion or weapon.
- This can be done directly or indirectly (e.g. giving something the ability to Counter a spell).
- Your card cannot simply produce the card Counterspell .
- Your card cannot be a Legendary or weapon.
For a full list of the rules, you'll need to enter, head on over to the submission thread. Don't forget, you can only submit one card into the competition and you must submit your card in the submission thread for it to be a valid submission - the news post comments don't work! It should also be noted we have a dedicated thread for you to discuss this week's entries, so if that's your cup of tea, head on over to the discussion thread.
GOOD LUCK!

logistically it probably wouldnt work but hey
Neutral
6-mana
3-attack / 4-health
Disguised Toast, Bug Experimenter
Battlecry: Counter the next card played by your opponent
Put your spoiler here.
nah
2 mana 0/2
Counter all spells. At the end of the turn, if this Countered anything, destroy this minion.
something like "minion, Battlecry: Choose (secretly) - Counter the next, the second or the third spell your opponent casts" works?
Boring, come up with a better idea next time.
What's the reason for the "no legendary or weapon" restriction?
Boring challenge, very limited.
Boring comment, user's very limited ..! ^^
Idea: A minion or weapon that reads “counter the first spell cast each turn” or “counter all spells from your opponent that cost greater than the attack/health of this weapon/minion.”
It's not good design to "Counter all spells" or something like that. Why doesn't the card just say "Spells can't be played", then? There has to be a reason that someone would choose to cast a spell and have it get Countered, otherwise you should just disallow those spells from being cast. You're just punishing people for forgetting the card is out there if you Counter without restriction.
Why can't we counter minion attacks, or hero attacks? I can think of several cards that could counter attacks from minions that attack your hero if they have a certain amount of attack, so they have to attack the minion that has that counter if they wanna attack your hero.
Because that's not Countering? Read the tooltip for Counter. And, I mean, there's only a single card that counters spells right now. If you have to radically redesign the keyword to come up with an idea rather than explore the vast open space of cards that Counter spells, you aren't being very imaginative.
Raw Ideas* up for anyone to grab :
Counter spells that replicate if conditions are met ( like Defile or Spreading Plague)
Counter (or partially counters) for board clear, leaving 1 or X conditions alive
Counter for healing spells only
What does it mean exactly to Counter something that isn't a spell? Creating the rules, I would have had to decide what that meant. And sInce there is only a single card that Counters spells, there is tons of innovation left in that space. It's kind of silly to say people should be finding radical new uses for a keyword that has been used a single time before. Plus, it's not much of a challenge when you don't place restrictions.
So, you're saying you can't come up with any other way to Counter a spell beyond the single existing card that does it? That's not being very imaginative. And tons of people have already proved you wrong by coming up with tons of great ideas. Actually check out the submissions so far and tell me there's nothing to do beyond Counterspell.
