Iksar Explains why no Keyword Exists for "Can't be Targeted by Spells or Hero Powers"
Referred to as Elusive unofficially by many community members, this block of card text is a subject that's been brought up in the past and recently hit the front page of reddit again.
- There's now 10 collectible cards in the game with the exact effect or a variation on it.
- This year we've seen 5 cards added to the game with the effect, and an entire keyword that can add it to cards (Adapt).
- Interestingly, a change to a single word could make Deathstalker Rexxar's hero power change as it's shorter text.
Noteworthy historical blue mentions on the card text.
- 2014: Ben Brode stated the team had discussed Shroud, Untargetable, and Ethereal as potential keywords. (Source)
- 2014: Yong Woo stated when they have enough cards with the same effect they may turn it into a keyword. (Source)
Now, here's what Iksar is saying today.
- There isn't a great word for the effect that clues you in to what it does.
- Trying out Elusive or Ethereal ending up being more misleading than helpful.
- The effect isn't going to be used on many cards in the future as having too many of these minions decreases the ability to interact with an opponent.

Or, and this is a long shot, but what if a keyword was a descriptive-enough single word that defined itself when you hovered over it.
We often state, then restate, then restate this again.... but trying to keep the game easy to pick up and grasp does not also equal a belief that the playerbase lacks intelligence. It's very rare that one particular thing is so complicated that no one will understand it, it's more that in order to protect against a death by a thousand cuts we have to stay vigilant when accessing all decisions (no matter how minor) to make sure that by adding an increase in complexity we are getting something valuable in return. And the first time somebody reads 'Adapt', the first thing that comes to mind is obviously "Choose 1 out of 3 options from a pool of 9 different buffs".
The difference is "adapt" can't be described by a short sentence, or even less than a paragraph if you want to describe all possible buffs. Also, it appears on twice as much cards when you only take standard into consideration and is part of a specific expansion (recruit doesn't say exactly what it does either). 8 words instead 1 in 6 standard cards seems like really looking for something to complain about.
I just want Elusive to become a keyword so I could combine Bearshark with Tundra Rhino and have the ultimate beast minion. An 8 mana 6/8 with charge and gives my other beasties charge, and can't be targeted by spells? Suddenly we have a Hemet Nessingwary meta!
I like this game, but i can't take seriously people who deleted otk warrior, because they "don't like non-interactive decks", but then they made Quest Mage and Raza/Anduin combo. And don't make me start telling how arrogant are they to never nerf key cards that everyone knows that are unhealthy for the game (patches, jade idol, bonemare, etc).
You can't lump quest mage in with certain other OTK decks. An OTK with a progress meter leading up to it (quests) is pretty different from an OTK with far less setup and/or no visible setup (just accumulating cards in hand) going on.

INB4 they added the Poisonous keyword when there were less minions with it than minions with "Elusive". Yeah, yeah...
Poisonous is super obvious though, like pretty much everyone would guess in some way it impacts the interactions with minions and makes it more favorable
I guess that would only work if it was "Untargetable by heroes", because you can target it with battlecries, and attacks. And even then hero attacks with weapons work.
Can't be targeted/effected by battlecrys would be more powerful than the the current effects
