Blizzard to Update Deathstalker Rexxar to Include New Beasts
There was a bit of outcry this past weekend about Rexxar not getting updated beasts. The Hearthstone team agrees with the community that they should have updated his Build-a-Beast Hero Power and an update to it will make its way here in the future. No date is yet available for the update, but we've been told they'll let us know when they have more information to share.
Some beasts may end up being not included on his hero power, much like how King of Beasts is not included.
Quote from KeganbeGreetings,
Many players have noticed that Deathstalker Rexxar’s Hero Power does not include any of the new Beasts that were added with the Kobolds & Catacombs expansion.
Since then, some players have provided constructive feedback regarding the state of Deathstalker Rexxar, and we agreed that a change to the Hero Power was warranted.
As such, we will be updating Deathstalker Rexxar’s Hero Power to include new Beasts going forward. Please be patient, as this is a fairly complicated endeavor and we may need to start with a smaller change before a more permanent solution is implemented. We don’t have a date for this change to share with you today, but we will provide more information once we have it.
Please also note that as new Beasts are released, we may need to mark some of them as exempt for various reasons, much like how King of Beasts is currently excluded from the pool of Beasts that Deathstalker Rexxar’s Hero Power can pull from.
Thank you for providing constructive feedback. We see your love and passion for Hearthstone and believe that the best way to make Hearthstone better is to do so together.
See you all in the Tavern!
Thank god, I play control hunter just for this hero because it makes it fun
Some heroes like Jaina took them 5 min to code, others like Rexar took them weeks
Jaina is not that simple, actually. She gets an area enchantment as Battlecry. The only other ability like that was in the Rogue Quest, but it involved stats and not an ability.
The easiest to code would be Thrall, IMO, as it didn't introduce any new mechanic at all.
area enchatment already exists, for instance Brann Bronzebeard is like that, other example is Raid Leader, or Stormwind Champ, or Murloc warleader.
not shure how they do it but just think like that:
While(Raid Leader is on board){
Minions.onBoard.Atk = Minions.onBoardAtk + 1;
}
for DK Mage i think it is an analogy to that, but instead of checking cards (like the mentioned above), they check the hero iself:
While(Hero is "DK Jaina"){ (its not a while because, even if you cange hero again, the effect persists, but i think you get the idea)
foreach(Minions.onBoard as minion){
if(minion.checkType(Elemental))
minion.addBuff(Lifesteal);
}
}
This are all supositions, i don't know how they implement things, so its an High Level overview. (Just sharing thoughts)
The great problem is called apple store and playstore
SELECT * FROM cards WHERE type='minion' AND tag='beast' AND format='X(wild or standard)' AND card not in (table of excluded cards);
something like that, just adding more definition to the query, but mainly i agree with you.
Basically they just put the cards they dont want to show, in the "table of excluded cards".
I see several solutions.
1. Blizz could make a tooltip appear when you're hovering over a Zombiest with two smaller copies of cards it's made of.
2. Blizz could get rid of some Keywords by just adding colors to the text. For example: Plated Beetle will gain you 3 armor after it's Deathrattle triggers. You could give Deathrattle text a Red color and Battlecry text a Blue color. That will save some space.
3. Blizz could make a Zombiest text something like "Bittertide Hydra + Stonetusk Boar". Sure that could confuse new and unexperienced players, but that's still an option.
4. Blizz could swap Keywords with some sort of icons as well.
Came here just for "Small indie company" comments.
This is a good decision. I didn't even know about it until I had crafted Rexxar to go with Kathrena. Was not happy, but am now.
Pretty sure this was a studied move from Team5. Thinking that they changed their mind because of the complaints it's so ingenious. I'm sure they wanted to announce that Rexxar wouldn't be updated, knowing that people would complain a lot because of it, and afterwards announce that they listened to the community to finally take the 'right' move and finally update Rexxar again. They even 'changed' their mind in a very short period of time, sure right? Seems like some people in here don't know how companies work, for real. 'Why they would do something like that?' In small words, marketing stuff and also to create some good feeling in the community so they can keep playing the game and spending money on it, etc. So yea, customers have the feeling like 'oh look, the company cares for the game', 'they listened to us'. Oh, and I'm not critizing Team5 to do this, I'm just surprised that still majority of people think this wasn't a premeditated move.
So Deathstalker beasts pool is defined instead of dynamically search for 'beast' tribe in cards pool?
Spaghetti code everywhere!
Did you even read the post? They did it that way because text may not fit. Remember HS is available in 12 languages.
that is exactly the reason to develop and spread games only in english. i personally ignore any kinds of localizations of any games so the existence of them doesnt make sense moreover revolves bunch of misunderstandings between players and technical inferiority
That's even worse. You can have a base ID column for tribes which could be English and then select all tribe name related conditions from there. And do the translations somewhere else.
Websites have been doing that for at least a decennial.
Developers has to consider the text fit problem, they released the card 4 months ago, and designed it even before. A lot of time to fix this kind of issue. Remember Blizzard is not a small company.
It's a bit more complicated than for it to just "filter for all minions with trait x", like how they do in cards that summon a minion with a specific mana cost. When crafting a zombeast, the first set of beasts that you choose from all have text, and the second set has only keyword abilities. Cards with keyword abilities are still coded with those abilities, just it is displayed as the keyword ability for the sake of simplicity for the player. Because of this, there is no way for blizard to code this in dynamically, otherwise, they probably would have done it.
