Hearthstone Patch 9.2 - Game Trigger Changes, Arena Synergy Picks Removed, New Card Backs

Patch 9.2 is now available for download through the Battle.net desktop app and will soon be available on mobile.

Game Trigger Changes

There's a big update today with how cards trigger in some rare edge-cases which aim to make Hearthstone more logical.

Ultimately, triggers will now be validated before they activate.
New triggers introduced onto the board during a chain of events will no longer fire.

Arena: Synergy Picks Removed

Synergy picks are no more! These changes to the Arena are live.

• Vicious Fledgling can no longer be drafted in the Arena.
• The first two picks in an Arena draft are no longer more likely to include synergy-based cards.
• As part of our ongoing efforts to improve Class balance in the Arena, small appearance rate adjustments have been made to a number of Arena cards.
• If you have an Arena run active on October 24, it will be retired. You will receive rewards for the current wins achieved and a free arena ticket.
• Stay up to date on Arena rules on the official forums.

Hallow's End

A Halloween event has come to Hearthstone! The event runs from October 24 until November 6.

• Every week during the event (two times) you will receive a card pack and an arena ticket for free.
• Logins between Oct 24 and Oct 30 give you one Old Gods card pack and an Arena Ticket.
• Logins between Oct 31 and Nov 5 give you one Frozen Throne card pack and an Arena Ticket.
• During the event the Arena will have a mode called "Dual Class Arena Mode".
  • You choose your hero, then choose your hero power.
  • You get card choices from both classes and the usual neutrals.
  • If you have an Arena run active on October 24, it will be retired. You will receive rewards for the current wins achieved and a free arena ticket.
• The Headless Horseman Rides brawl will be active from October 25 to the 28.
  • Discover a costume you get to wear, each one has its own deck and a passive hero power.

Halloween Heroes

The main heroes are all playing dressup during the Headless Horseman Rides Brawl and the Arena. 

New Card Art

New art has been added for several cards. These are likely all to be brawl cards.

Hearthstone Table

Two new table backgrounds have been added. Spooky!

Nemsy Necrofizzle Now Available

The new Warlock hero has arrived! You can earn her by visiting a Fireside Gathering Tavern.

In this Hearthstone update we’re preparing the tavern for the Headless Horseman’s Hallow’s End party! We’ve also made some small but important changes to Hearthstone’s mechanics, added a new Hearthstone hero you can acquire via Fireside Gatherings, and fixed some bugs.

General

• HA! HA! HAPPY HALLOW’S END! It’s the Headless Horseman’s favorite time of year, and he’s brought lots of tricks and treats to the tavern! From October 24 through November 6 enjoy a treat for logging in each week, a tricky new Tavern Brawl, and dual class Arenas*! Visit playhearthstone.com for details.

  • Unholy – Acquired from achieving Rank 20 in Ranked Play, October 2017

Fireside Gatherings

• New Warlock Hero: Nemsy Necrofizzle – Acquired from attending a Fireside Gathering Tavern and playing a Fireside Brawl. Find a Fireside Gathering Tavern near you atfiresidegatherings.com.
• Fireside Gatherings now have their own game menu!

Gameplay & Updates

• Hearthstone Mechanics Update – We've changed some underlying rules to prevent Wild Pyromancer from triggering off of Mindgames, and Djinni of Zephyrs from triggering off Entomb. Please check out the Upcoming Mechanics Update blog for details!
• Several Friends List options have been bundled into a sub-menu.

• Spells that are canceled by Counterspell will now trigger any “Whenever you cast a spell” and “After you cast a spell” effects.
• Lord Jaraxxus no longer triggers Repentance, Sacred Trial, and Snipe.
• Unlicensed Apothecary now reads: “After you summon a minion, deal 5 damage to your hero.” It will no longer activate from any Evolve effects.
• It is no longer possible to cancel Choose One cards before the choices appear, this should resolve issues where the Choose One effect could be canceled too easily.
• Hearthstone’s engine has been updated to Unity version 5.6.
• Animations for Mimic Pod, Chromaggus, Shifting Shade, Ghastly Conjurer, and Cutpurse should no longer have a long pause.
• Mana-cost reductions on cards such as Dragon’s Breath, Solemn Vigil, Everyfin is Awesome, and Obsidian Shard will now apply after all other mana cost changes, such as the effects from cards like Naga Sea Witch.

Arena

* NOTE: If you have an Arena run in progress when Hallow’s End begins on October 24, then it will be retired and you’ll receive the normal rewards for the number of wins you achieved and a free Arena ticket. In the hours just before the beginning and conclusion of Hallow’s End on October 24 and November 6, it will temporarily be impossible to purchase a new Arena ticket.

Fireside Gatherings Taverns
Fireside Gathering Innkeepers who have hosted at least one Fireside Gathering with checked-in guests can found a Tavern on the Fireside Gatherings website. Taverns have unique names and Tavern signs that perfectly embody the spirit of their communities. Taverns also persist between Gatherings, so they need your attendance and support to grow!

 

If you’re wondering whether the Fireside Gathering you’re planning to attend is at an established Tavern, just check the event page! Each Tavern has a tavern sign associated with it, while other Fireside Gatherings use a Fireside Gatherings lantern instead.

Fireside Brawls
Fireside Brawls are special Tavern Brawls that can only be played at Fireside Gatherings! Each month there will be a different Fireside Brawl to try—check the Fireside Gatherings website to find out about the brawl that’s running this month.

These special brawls run the whole month with no breaks, and they co-exist with the weekly Tavern Brawls.
