Ben Brode's Design Lessons from Improv
Ben Brode gave a talk at Blizzard's 2015 Design Summit in which he shared his experiences with improv and how it helped him become a better game designer. Thanks Ben for pulling this out of Blizzard's archives to share with everyone!
Cool Fact: The talk was given the week before they announced The Grand Tournament.
Making card text and card effects consistent isn't a straight buff, even if it felt like one in this particular case.
The card(s) may not have other card text or stats than before, but it certainly is a buff. Just like when Yogg-Saron was nerfed hard last year. It used to cast spells even after it was dead - now it doesnt. And They didn't change anything About that cards text or stats, but it's almost not played anymore. :)
Maybe you like this change, thats fair. I hate it. They had to wait with this change until it went to Wild. But playing a control deck there is useless against it now.
Changing interactions to be more consistent has nothing to do with buffing a specific card. Just because this change had consequences with giants doesn’t mean The Naga Sea Witch was buffed.
Nothing about the card itself has changed.
You are saying i have to understand what i am bitching about before i post? I think it's yourself you should be saying that to. I posted this, just because i think its funny that Ben Brode took down the video from his Youtube channel where he talks about why they don't buff cards, just before the "buff" (or w/e you want to call it, idc ) NSW got, so people couldn't see what his opinion on buffing cards is anymore - unless you find the video somewhere else :) I find it Ironic that he does that.
And no, i don't like the change, because it's even harder now than before to play control decks in Wild.
The deck is not below 50%.
-_-
Believe or not I dont trust when brode speak. Maybe is because he emphasizes some points that want me to believe he's right but mostly of time he's not. I dont understand how people still think brode is doing something good on Hearthstone. By far I've been playing 3 by 3 days just completing quests and saving money believing that what brodes says will improv the game somehow but its not. This game becomes a hobby when u're in bathroom and you thinks: what the hell I need to wait one more time let me play hearthstone on my phone instead spending more time to a competitive game. That's it
Mark Rosewater (Magic lead designer) has also spoken volumes about the value of improv for people in positions requiring creativity.
"better game designer"...Say that to Hearthstone's current state... This guy is so pretentious, with all his ridiculous faces, raps and other useless stuff... I just can't like him
Good thing he's a successful person with a game that is killing it ad you are just some salty loser on the internet then. Back into your hole please.
But no, it’s obviously all Ben brode’s fault that this game is so bad that millions of people are playing it, and that the plenty of other card games that have tried to steal Blizz’s hold on the market have all failed so far. Can you believe him? Such a terrible game that so many people apparently seem to enjoy enough to continue playing. /s
So why are you on a fan site of this terrible game that you obviously don’t play?
Because I was being sarcastic and I enjoy this game? Should be obvious enough from most of my other posts.
As a new game developer, this helps me to understand some things that happen in the game development process
*Insert Ben Brode laugh here*
