Midsummer Fire Festival is coming to Hearthstone! Here's what's happening:

Completing quests will provide you with double their gold value.
A special Tavern Brawl this week features Ragnaros himself.

You will celebrate in Ragnaros' honor, insects!

It IS a coincidence since ALL the quests I've got were 120 gold worth, besides 1 which I rerolled to get a 100 gold quest.
You might blame it on RNG, but there's no point in developping a conspiracy theory over that.

Playing through the Witcher 3 now and it is a solid game hell, it'd be amazing if I weren't biased toward Zelda style progression and combat, but calling it as big as WOW is like saying that 3D block heroes has a similar following size to Zelda.

That said, onto your actual point. Hearthstone has been getting generous because of the culture of similar games around them, this is true. But not because of Gwent wholly. Gwent, Duel Links, Shadowverse, etc have all been playing catch-up to Hearthstone's playerbase and as such have been giving out free stuff galore. So, in a way, Gwent may have indeed been the tipping point, but let's not take away from other CCGs.

Good to see Capitalism at its best making my favorite card game even better.
