Official Blizzard Wild Tournament, Top 64 Ranked Wild Players in May Qualify!
They've mentioned that Wild would get more support this year a few times already, but now it's official! Blizzard just announced that the top 64 Ranked players in Wild mode at the end of next month will qualify for an official Wild tournament!
There is no info about the event yet other than the tweet that announced it but we'll be sure to keep you up to date! For now, head on over to our top Wild decks! And to get you in the mood, check out the awesome Wild video by Dane below!
Quote from @HSesportsGO WILD! The top 64 from Ranked Wild in May can qualify for an upcoming official Wild Tournament! More info to come.
That's awesome! Now where's my option to buy wild packs? :D
Hmmm it seems it will be harder for me to reach rank 5 next month. But good Job Blizzard. Wild is life wild is love!
I really wish Blizzard would move Wild from an "Unlimited" format to a rotating one, with different blocks of cards moving in and out month. This could be either sets of sets (say, May is Naxx, WOTOG, Kara, and Basic) or something silly like "Only cards with two words in their name". This would ensure that the meta was very different from month to month, and reward deck-building skills to a much higher degree than Standard. Of course, the "Unlimited" format could periodically rotate into the schedule, perhaps during months of new set releases, but I don't think we need it all the time, because it is getting rather stale already and this will only worsen with time.
This would make tournaments tons of fun, because you could make them work along the lines of making up a new rotation for each round (round one, no battlecries, round two, a particular set of sets, round three, no rares, whatever) and give players a fixed amount of time to create their decks, and as such test deck building and meta predicting more than who outdraws who in a handful of games using the same netdecks everyone and their brother uses.
I like this idea of rotating wacky rulesets and card sets. It'd keep you on your toes but feel lighthearted and fun. In universe you could theme it as some kind of wacky brawl in the tavern, maybe?
They should leave wild alone, but it would be interesting if they added a third format with different rules that wasn't just the weekly brawl.
That said, they have shown so little interest in wild that I can't imagine them wanting to deal with a third format.
Look up Challengestone, its a tournament with wacky rules like that
What are tournaments "for"? Because as they are currently formatted, there is little skill involved. There's no deck-building skill because everyone is using netdecks and mostly playing the same things as their opponent. You know what cards your opponent has and he vice versa. All the matches come down to is who curves out better or draws the particular cards in his or her deck that trump whatever the opponent just played. Even if there were a win-rate / skill differential between the players, you aren't going to sort it out statistically in a handful of games. You'd need dozens to actually determine anything.
My suggestion offers a *lot* more room for skill, and a lot more variety from the point of view watching. Do you really want to watch Pirate Warrior over and over and over and over?
You say "Wild is Wild" but it isn't. Pirate Warrior is degenerate there because of Ship's Cannon, and a handful of other agro decks are getting there. It's only getting worse with time.
Tornaments in a cardgame called elements were almost always like this. I'd really like to see 4 exsample a tournament of mirror matches, where you always play against your class
Dane is awesome
Hear, Hear!
I would sub!
SO PUMPED. I'm 58 right now. Hope I can replicate it next month.
I think you're about to have a lot more competition next month
Yep.
Gonna come down to how lucky you get during the last 6 hours more than anything as that is what is going to decide it all as everyone will be clawing at it until the server goes down. There is no point in grinding legend before the last week of the season with all the games that will be played the last few days.
The top 64 lucky grinders with no real job can take my spot
You only have to be able to play the last day to be able to grind the last spots of legend although it is annoying to be top 50 all season then get stuck in 20 minute fatigue games and end up going 4-4 and thus getting knocked out not from losing, but people grinding ahead of you and you finish 117.
How come this post has not recieved more thumbs up? It's precise, even beautiful to read
Looking forward to this
