Blizzard is Hiring a New Hearthstone Designer
The Hearthstone team is looking to hire a new designer! They aren't looking for an ideas person but someone to take the initial cards and give them final tuning.
It's also been stated that the two design periods for card sets are about 4 months a piece, so it takes 8 months to build a new set of cards!
Quote from Mike DonaisHi guys, I love reading this forum and seeing how much passion and talent there is for Hearthstone. We are hiring a new designer and I wanted to make sure people were aware.I want to give some specifics about this position and what it entails though. Hearthstone card design is broken into 2 major categories. Initial design which comes up with the flavor and story for the cards, as well as a solid pass on what every card does and costs. Initial design will work on a set for approximately 4 months. After that Final design will take the completed set and work on it for another 4 months.
Final design makes sure that the cards and decks are fun, intuitive, clear, and balanced. They also try to predict what the meta will look like after all these new cards are added. Most cards will change in some way during final design. Final designers should be able to adjust overly complex designs into clean but still fun or exciting versions. They also need to be able to hit legend fairly easily and understand how introducing new cards or decks will change legend level play.
The new position is for a final designer, not an initial designer.
If you are fun to work with, super smart, love Hearthstone and really understand the cards and high level play then you should apply!

Thanks for reading!
I would love the job, but never really spend my time going deeper than rank 5 there isnt enought motivation for players to grind that
Im a game designer in argentina and love card games, played magic since 9 year old, and love warcraft lore. Maybe someday..
Grook Fu Master
I still it just me that thinks blizzard has done fairly well with balance? For example, 4 mana 7/7 wasn't that relevant in the meta within 6 months of release. The only mistakes I think they made were the needs to removal cards like bgh and execute, both of which were badly timed. I think they could really use some neutral control staples in the meta, but having wild saved that from being a problem
Would love to work there, sadly never bothered climbing all the way to legend...
This makes things more sense. With the exception of Naxx, It's 8 months between adventures and 8 months between major expansions putting them all 4 months apart.
I don't think we're following that pattern. Didn't they said the next major expansion was arriving between April & May?
This new card designer is either going to be a massive benefit to card design or a massive drawback. Let's hope it the former.
So basically from now on Ben and his team (initial designers) will still continue to produce shit cards and the new guy (final designer) job will be to fix all their fuckups? Daaamn that's a lot of work...
Ok so you hate the game so much you still frequent a fansite about it and read the news items?
Ffs guys, so many people complaining about how the Hearthstone designers are 'too stupid to see that a card is broken'...
Remember when everybody thought Dr. Boom and Antique Healbot would be BAD, but Enhance-O-Mechano and Troggzor would be GOOD?
Hmm yeah... Seems like it's not that easy to predict if a card will be good enough (not counting stuff like 4 mana 7/7's, which are obviously meant to buff a weak class).
Well Enhance-o Mechano was staple in every single zoo deck indeed ...
But these guys get to play test everything... Not just make a card review...
True, but noticing that patches was broken seems fairly obvious. People aren't even playing hunter anymore because of it...
