So why would anyone play this retarded shit instead of Shadowstep and/or Youthful Brewmaster?
Sax music, gadgetzan ferryman, concede.
I had to look twice when I glanced at this card. Did Blizzard seriously just reprint Brewmaster with worse cardtext?
Ahhhh if just rogue had the 3/6 heal for 6......
At first glance, seems bad. But not actually as bad as it may seem. Fits okay in a Jade Golem rogue deck that wants to bounce a Jade Spirit or the Aya alongside Shadowstep. VERY easy to activate with the new Counterfeit Coin. Also fits into Mill Rogue because dropping a Coldlight, drawing this, then picking the Coldlight back up, isn't all that bad. That's just a couple possibilities. I'm not saying this card is amazing, but I really do feel it'll see an average amount of play.
But then Shadowcaster is ten times better....
@finite1 Some people like to build decks around a consistent theme. For example, playing Jade Golems and getting value from JG-summoning battlecry minions by playing them multiple times. I'm not saying that deck is going to be top tier in a competitive sense, just that that is a deck style that people might want to explore. (and should have a variety of choices in doing so) In that situation, you want multiple cards that do the same thing, so you can do that thing consistently and often, even if some of those cards are less good. Redundancy and choice are more important than quality sometimes.
@finite1 If what I'm hearing about Blizzard rotating every other expansion out of standard is true, Shadowcaster isn't going to be sticking around for long. I'm taking that fact into account as well. Sure it's still available in wild but more people tend to prefer standard anyway.
Even so, this wouldn't replace Shadowcaster but it'd supplement it. Having more effects to trigger plays is a huge deal with combo decks. In fact, this pairs very well with Shadowcaster as you can copy a Jade Spirit or Aya Blackpaw, then drop the 1/1 copy and pick it back up with Ferryman and possibly drop it again for it's full power. Ferryman has a lot of potential with other cards. But I doubt it'll ever see it's full potential because of statements like, "(Blank) Card is better" or "Why would I play this when I can play (Blank)." Sometimes it's better to look at cards for their synergy, not their solo value.
Also, Shadowcaster is an epic. This is only a rare. There are some people out there that have to build on a budget. Not all cards can be top tier auto-include cards. We do need a few watered down ones to let newer players get into the game. Or for those of us who enjoy setting cost restrictions on decks.
Why would I want to use this over Youthful Brewmaster? Brewmaster does the same effect, but it's a Battlecry so you don't have to spend another card to play him. Sure Brewmaster is a 3/2 and this is a 2/3, but let's be honest: You're not playing him for the stats, you're playing him for the effect. To add insult to injury, this card is a Rare, and Brewmaster is a Common. Welp, 20 dust for me then.
The Combo condition means that you can choose whether you want to return the minion to your hand or not.
You might have a big Edwin VanCleef on the board that you played last turn and you don't want to return it to your hand so it doesn't lose its stats.
I mean, one would think this is just another Youthful Brewmaster, but you need to combo to return a friendly minion to the hand. And honestly, that's (to me) better then Brewmaster in some cases. Mostly in cases when you have minions out and don't want to bounce em back in hand, well you just play Gadgetzan Ferryman as first card and you don't have to bounce your minion back.
Buuut so far idk where would you play this outside of arena :D
At first i thought they finally made a playable version of Kidnapper. Then i saw the "friendly" part...
At least add: "It costs (2) less"
so if you have 2 of these you can have a 30000/300000 edwin von cleef :)
With Brewmaster, you have to return something. with this you can play it as the first card in a turn, and not have to return something. but i just thought of something. Each jade golem that is summoned is +1/+1 stronger than the last one. If you return one to your hand and resummon it, will it be +1/+1 stronger than it was before?
misprinted, should be return a random enemy minion to their hand. trash card
