Update 12:40 PM EDT: Ben Brode confirms 0 wins gives you 1 pack as a reward.
Competitive Tavern Brawls with Entry Fees Coming Soon!
A new Tavern Brawl type is coming soon titled Heroic Brawl which works a bit like arena except we're using constructed decks! You will need to pay an entry fee in order to play but you can earn some pretty awesome rewards.
- The entry fee is $9.99 USD or 1000 Gold.
- You will build a Standard deck using your own card collection. No changes once it is locked in!
- Your deck can be played up until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses. You will earn rewards based on your total wins.
- Rewards featured up to 50 packs for a run, multiple legendaries, and the usual gold + dust.
- The Heroic Brawl only lasts for the duration of a regular Tavern Brawl week!
- When this special mode is running, there will not be a regular Tavern Brawl.
- You can only run Heroic Brawl five times during the week.

Clarifications
Quote from BlizzardThis brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :) (Ben Brode)The pack rewards are from the most recent expansion - so it would be Whispers of the Old Gods. The Legendaries are random. (Zeriyah)
The current limit is five runs. (Zeriyah)
Announcement Post
Quote from BlizzardReady for the ultimate competitive Tavern Brawl experience that will test Hearthstone’s best in an all-out battle for glory? If you think you’re up to the challenge, get your deck ready and dive into the fray, because Heroic Brawl is coming!
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.
Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!
For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?
Heroic Brawl is not for the faint of heart, and is a unique experience meant for the extremely competitive and experienced Hearthstone player. To speak more on Heroic Brawl and the philosophy behind it are two of Hearthstone’s game designers for Tavern Brawls, Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle.
Are you cracking your knuckles in anticipation yet? Here’s how you can participate!
Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold. You can participate in Heroic Brawl for a limited amount of completed runs. As mentioned above, Heroic Brawl rewards scale depending on how many wins you get, so be sure to do your best each run!
If you’re not ready to t Tavern Brawl week.
We hope that our Heroic Brawl scratches the competitive itch of the players looking for a high risk, high reward experience. Heroic Brawl is coming soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
We’re always looking to try new things in Hearthstone, so let us know what you think of Heroic Brawl on the official Hearthstone forums!
to be honest even with worse reward system but 500 gold fee and new expansion out i would do it...... i mean i would take the gamble cause this is a gamble. one quick way to find out how difficult this really is is start playing ranked and if you get 3 losses youre out. try this like 5 time (5 runs) and see how many wins you average. there will be some lucky few to get the 12 win prize thats for sure but like a real tournament luck is not enough you actually have to be a very good player propably a top legend player
Very pumped to post some vids on this and see the reaction of the commenters.

The rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer.
This concept applies in the real life also .. sad but true
The better players get richer, the suckers don't get anything
IDC if people don't like it. I'm saving up gold for multiple runs of this now! It's the kind of high stakes I've been looking for in Hearthstone a while now since ladsee has zero stakes and is a joke to get the highest rewards while arena has just gotten stale and just isn't interesting enough to keep me interested since it usually comes down to, did I get a good class? NO? Well I guess I dont have much of a chance of getting twelve wins then. Whereas even with priest I can forsee possibly getting twelve wins with a Resurrect or dragon deck.
True, Priest is very good against Shaman in this meta.
really blizzard? youre that hungry for money? and btw the brawl is going to be a complete shaman-fest becuse thats the only class about 90% of players are gonna pick for this brawl so even participating in this EVEN if you have the gold/money is going to be a complete nightmere becuse everyone will be shamans
Ok so go full taunt/AOE if you are right you will meet only 1 or 2 non shaman, so with 3 slots for defeats you'll easily get 3 golden legendaries and 1k dust/gold + 50 packs every time you should be very happy.
Maybe you missed the part where they said you can pay for it with gold.
If 90% of players picked any single class, the other 10% would absolutely DOMINATE them because they could play hard counters for 90% of their matches (and 50/50 mirror matches the other 10%). I'd run that math again, if I were you.
I am excited by this tournament mode, it will spice up the game. However i'm a bit disappointed by the low and mid-end rewards.
Average number of win will be 3, like in Arena, but in arena the reward for 3 wins is about worth ~150 gold with is the entry fee. Here for 3 wins you get about 800 gold reward value for a 1000 entry fee.
On the other side, the hight end rewards are so worth that it makes this game mode interesting if you like challenges.
PS: I strongly disagree with those complaining about entry fee: 1k gold is achievable relatively easily in one week, and such a game mode is a very good way to bring excitement with games that have stakes, even for F2P players. If that's not your thing feel free to play game modes you used to play before. This is an addition to HS how could that be negative? If you wished you could play it for free and unlimited, and still get the rewards then yeah you'll never be happy. And those complaining "Blizzard wants to make money": yeah, it's the very point of a company, and those engineers in California ain't gonna work for free. You can still be a F2P player and enjoy HS.
1000 gold relatively easily achievable in one week? I don't know how much time you think an average player is willing to spend here. Suppose an average quest is 50 gold. That would make 350 quest gold, meaning you have 7 days for 650 gold. How many wins are necessary? (if you're not good enough at arena) 65x3 = 195. With an average winrate of, say, 50%, that makes 390 games of around 7 minutes on average, so 390X7/60 = 45.5 hours in one week. Yeah..... good luck with that. That's exactly 6.5 hours a day.
And the complaints aren't that this mode is added, they're that it replaces the free-to-play Tavern Brawl mode in the weeks it's there. I wouldn't mind this being added, but Tavern Brawl is a mode I can actually play and enjoy, while getting a free pack in the process. And I'm not going to gamble with 1k gold, which takes quite some time to get when you're free-to-play, on a couple of games which likely will have quite good opponents.
Such a disgusting way to grind more cash as a company that is already successful and rich
You've disappointed me, blizz
its a brawl and so it should be free instead 1k gold. IF they want everyone to enjoy it and care less about the $$
the marketing strategy here is disgusting. good lucky getting 3 golden legs.
if it was free the rewards would be very underwhelming
They could have done the ''tournament'' mode similar to the one in Pokemon TCGO.
There is an entry fee (which is tournament tickets) and the tournament is limited to 8 players. Once you pay the entry fee you are then put into queue until 7 other players appear. When all 8 players have gathered the tournament begins and it is removed from the list of avaliable tournaments and immediately replaced with a new one for other players to be able to play. The prizes vary depending on how well do you do but if I recall correctly it is 1 random pack for 3rd place, 1 random pack and 1 pack of the latest set for the second place and 1 random pack and 2 packs of the latest set for the 1st place. Hearthstone would obviously use a different set of prizes but you get the general idea :)
