Competitive Tavern Brawls with Entry Fees Coming Soon!
A new Tavern Brawl type is coming soon titled Heroic Brawl which works a bit like arena except we're using constructed decks! You will need to pay an entry fee in order to play but you can earn some pretty awesome rewards.
- The entry fee is $9.99 USD or 1000 Gold.
- You will build a Standard deck using your own card collection. No changes once it is locked in!
- Your deck can be played up until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses. You will earn rewards based on your total wins.
- Rewards featured up to 50 packs for a run, multiple legendaries, and the usual gold + dust.
- The Heroic Brawl only lasts for the duration of a regular Tavern Brawl week!
- When this special mode is running, there will not be a regular Tavern Brawl.
- You can only run Heroic Brawl five times during the week.

Clarifications
Quote from BlizzardThis brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :) (Ben Brode)The pack rewards are from the most recent expansion - so it would be Whispers of the Old Gods. The Legendaries are random. (Zeriyah)
The current limit is five runs. (Zeriyah)
Announcement Post
Quote from BlizzardReady for the ultimate competitive Tavern Brawl experience that will test Hearthstone’s best in an all-out battle for glory? If you think you’re up to the challenge, get your deck ready and dive into the fray, because Heroic Brawl is coming!
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.
Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!
For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?
Heroic Brawl is not for the faint of heart, and is a unique experience meant for the extremely competitive and experienced Hearthstone player. To speak more on Heroic Brawl and the philosophy behind it are two of Hearthstone’s game designers for Tavern Brawls, Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle.
Are you cracking your knuckles in anticipation yet? Here’s how you can participate!
Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold. You can participate in Heroic Brawl for a limited amount of completed runs. As mentioned above, Heroic Brawl rewards scale depending on how many wins you get, so be sure to do your best each run!
If you’re not ready to t Tavern Brawl week.
We hope that our Heroic Brawl scratches the competitive itch of the players looking for a high risk, high reward experience. Heroic Brawl is coming soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
We’re always looking to try new things in Hearthstone, so let us know what you think of Heroic Brawl on the official Hearthstone forums!
If you want to get good in any Blizzard game - you need either farm or spend real money. It's a long time ago a well-known fact, so I don't see any problems here with OW and HS.
And yes, let's be honest, we play some brawls just for 1 free pack and then we wait for the next week because the brawl sucks. So and this, but only without free pack. So maybe we need to chill and let other people try something new and interesting for THEM, not only US?
Your win rate is going to depend a lot on how the queue works.
If they have a hidden mechanic that pairs you against people with similar wins/losses like the arena queue does then the rewards absolutely suck and it will be impossible even for legendary players to get 10+ wins.
If they have a completely random queue then legendary players should be able to get 12 wins every time and rank 5-10 players will probably break even with ~6 wins.
Since it is a limited time AND limited tries thing, they really ought to increase the rewards to encourage everyone to try it like adding 1 of each available pack onto the rewards so that 0-3 would give 2x WotOG / 1x TGT / 1x Classic. They could even throw in random hero skins and card backs as extra rewards so that people could get ones they missed or never had access to.
That's a really interesting point about the queuing. Here's hoping for full-on random!
in not sure ppl below rank5 will play it, the risks are incredible high
I usually don't comment on posts like this but I feel like I should share my opinion. The way Blizzard is implementing this is wrong. They should not remove a regular Tavern Brawl for a whole week just because they are doing a Heroic Brawl. That will annoy every single player that did not want to or couldn't enter the Heroic Brawl, which I assume will be the vast majority of players.
The tournament mode the community asked for was very different. They wanted to organize tournaments easily and with an actual tournament mode in the game that would be a lot easier. I just feel like they could've done it better by at the very least not make the casual Hearthstone players (which is the vast majority of HS players) feel left out.
I know they won't, but they could do it if they wanted to.
I assume this is working same way as arena, players with same stats will play against each other. Mathematically this means roughly 90% of players will end up to 0-3 wins and only after more than 5 wins your reward is better than entry fee. Blizzard is gonna make so high profit with this format.
It feels like only players who can really afford this format is players who don't even need these rewards because they already have all cards they need, golden legendaries are cool of course but it's just bling bling that does not make your collection stronger. Ideally this format is for new player who is at the same time very good in this game, there is no many players like this.
Assuming this only 12.5% of players will end up with 0-3 and ~23% players will get better reward than entry fee.
Both of your estimates are quite off. In Arena, 65,63% of runs should end with 0-3 wins, and only 14.45% ends up with 6 or more wins. Check this link: http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Arena
There's no time for me to grind out 1000 gold, and on top of that, my average win/loss ratio is pretty low. So it just makes logical sense to skip out this week. :(
they should've announced this much longer ago, this is a straight kick in the face to f2p as they can't save up that gold in time
Even though they've had it, it's Impossible to get even 9 wins strikes with all Midrange Shamans around. Screw you Blizzard! You're not going to take my money!
I think this will actually be a decent addition to the game for a few reasons, one playing is kinda like gambling (As in arena) although at a higher scale. It is the difference between a coin flip and a slot machine. Arena being the coin flip, usually smaller amounts with smaller rewards, although the competitive brawl being like a slot machine, significantly higher entry with a significantly higher reward, even though highly unlikely. Although the skill aspect of the game is what really sets hearthstone "Gambling" apart. For instance if you are consistently good at arena, you will average 7-8 wins, instead of normal people with 2-4. This shows that even though RNG can make you lose all three games, you can still average fairly high win rates. Getting 10 wins once in this game mode will net you a significant amount of profit (3000 gold assuming that a pack is about 100 dust), although unlikely even one 10 win run for that week will likely pay for the others you have lost to RNG. Financially this is probably not the way to go because there is far to much variance, although if you have extra gold and are willing to probably lose value for a dream finish of 12 wins netting you 11000 gold (Again assuming a pack is 100 dust). Overall, I probably won't be participating, because I am not willing to gamble away that much gold at my current skill level, but some of my more experienced friends will probably give this a go. Thus I think this brawl is probably going to appeal to the experienced hearthstone players who have a pretty good collection of cards, who are trying to finish their collection, or turning all of their cards golden (Kripp).
Waste of my gold. I'll just save it for the actual expansion coming out in 2 months. There's no way I'm getting 9-12 wins my first try. And frankly only the rewards for 12 wins are interesting enough.
tried to make a table.
