Competitive Tavern Brawls with Entry Fees Coming Soon!
A new Tavern Brawl type is coming soon titled Heroic Brawl which works a bit like arena except we're using constructed decks! You will need to pay an entry fee in order to play but you can earn some pretty awesome rewards.
- The entry fee is $9.99 USD or 1000 Gold.
- You will build a Standard deck using your own card collection. No changes once it is locked in!
- Your deck can be played up until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses. You will earn rewards based on your total wins.
- Rewards featured up to 50 packs for a run, multiple legendaries, and the usual gold + dust.
- The Heroic Brawl only lasts for the duration of a regular Tavern Brawl week!
- When this special mode is running, there will not be a regular Tavern Brawl.
- You can only run Heroic Brawl five times during the week.

Clarifications
Quote from BlizzardThis brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :) (Ben Brode)The pack rewards are from the most recent expansion - so it would be Whispers of the Old Gods. The Legendaries are random. (Zeriyah)
The current limit is five runs. (Zeriyah)
Announcement Post
Quote from BlizzardReady for the ultimate competitive Tavern Brawl experience that will test Hearthstone’s best in an all-out battle for glory? If you think you’re up to the challenge, get your deck ready and dive into the fray, because Heroic Brawl is coming!
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.
Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!
For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?
Heroic Brawl is not for the faint of heart, and is a unique experience meant for the extremely competitive and experienced Hearthstone player. To speak more on Heroic Brawl and the philosophy behind it are two of Hearthstone’s game designers for Tavern Brawls, Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle.
Are you cracking your knuckles in anticipation yet? Here’s how you can participate!
Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold. You can participate in Heroic Brawl for a limited amount of completed runs. As mentioned above, Heroic Brawl rewards scale depending on how many wins you get, so be sure to do your best each run!
If you’re not ready to t Tavern Brawl week.
We hope that our Heroic Brawl scratches the competitive itch of the players looking for a high risk, high reward experience. Heroic Brawl is coming soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
We’re always looking to try new things in Hearthstone, so let us know what you think of Heroic Brawl on the official Hearthstone forums!
This feels very much like a the rich get richer type of mode. 500 gold? Maybe. But 1000g... no way.
You forgot about Morgl.
The Morgld the players gather, the more promotions like this will come!
Just for a short reminder:
A few weeks ago Blizzard themselves posted that in the longrun (100+ games it was if I remeber this correctly) the absolute best player on the ladder had around 75% winrate. That is for the best of the best (and the variance can be brutal in this casinostone game instead of a more skill focused card game), so anyone who is going to take this brawl shouldn`t expect to go break even. The rewards on the lower ranks are too small, or rather the entry fee to high.
Additionally they want to grab some gold before announcing the new set to make more money when the new set is launching.
Better rewards and the mode could be nice. Also a better system is needed, not single deck elimination but best of x with y decks.
I don't get that descision. I like the apporach of playing for something of more value than your arena matches, but 1000 gold is way too much.
It'll be mostly streamers and legendary rank competitive people who want to risk such an amount of money. I mean, nothing wrong with catering that specific crowd, but I'd prefer a real tournament mode first. That'd ne appealing to those players and the more average HS players aswell.
I think it's fine if they want to make the cost high. The problem is the rewards, which for the most part aren't that great, especially considering that if it's like arena, only around 20% of people are going to get 5 wins, which is essentially the break even point for this set up, while 50% of players will only make it to 3 wins.
Holy crap that's insane.
The average pack for most people is somewhere between 80ish and 100ish dust per pack.
If you're getting 160 per pack roughly then you're INCREDIBLY lucky.
You need about 6 wins in order to get your 1000 gold value back. (If dust is of any value to you, not for me, so let's say 7 wins)
So you have to get a win ratio of at least 2:1 for any profit. That's 67% wins in a semi-tournament setting just to break even.
Entry cost is way overpriced.
It COULD have been nice but the time and entry restrictions will force people take minimal risks in deck techs and counters.
We will see 2 type of decks : Shaman and attempts to counter shaman
EDIT: the entry fee would be OK for me if the rewards were adjusted for a permanent mode like this. but this is a first time test so you WANT more people to try it out...
Isn't it more like 4 wins to break even, considering the gold and dust you get?
5 wins is break even point. Why dust doesn't have any value to you? It's basicly same stuff you get from packs, just in different form.
Because gold means packs, packs have a good chance do deviate very highly from that curve.
One pack averages 100 dust, but it can be as low as 40 dust and as high as 8000 dust, so I think that taking the chances with a pack is much nicer than just getting 100 dust outright.
And also can be used for adventures, arena and has more flexibility even if you buy packs straight from the shop. Gold can generate more gold, dust always has diminishing return value.
Checks the calendar... nope, not April 1st... This isn't necessarily a terrible idea in regards to format. It is just terrible in the sense of the entry fee cost. It shouldn't cost more than Arena does.
Ok, i love the idea but it is unbalanced 1k for a chance at a jackpot if you're a pro legendary player and you have the highest win rate you can get with your deck then have a go. to me, this sounds like a lottery rather than a tournament which is not a good thing. when you look at it, it is a lottery I will save my gold for an adventure or something, remember that for 1 adventure you need like 200 and that is all of it so if you think about it pay double and get guaranteed legendary and a couple hours of play.
This is freaking terrible. What they do is basically make another mode filled with shamans and other high-tier decks. That's no fun, that doesn't make the game more interesting. Why did they do it? No idea.
ya, I WAS kind of interested before comparing the cost and reward. They need to cut the cost by half at LEAST to be worth the time.
who need dat shit?
this idea is very terrible, but it would become awesome if everyone has a free entry, i'm a rank 15 player and i will not waste money on this
at this point yeah 1k gold and only whispers packs i'll pass and save the new stuff after blizzcon. don't know if i would ever pay 1k gold with this reward stucture either, barely want to pay arena with it's actual good reward structure where 3 wins is about break even
0 wins gives you 1 pack! WHAT!
I mean, in Hearthstone, luck is a REALLY important factor. Sometimes, unlucky draws and RNG can destroy you. So you can have a perfect deck, you can be really skilled but you can still get 0-3 if you get punished by RNG. So you can lose 900 GOLD, because of RNG.
This isn't fair at all! At least make it like, 3 packs or something.
They should add more deckslots instead...
