HearthPwn Card Design Competition - Death and Taxes

HearthPwn Card Design Competition - Death and Taxes

It's that time again - time to vote for a winner in our weekly card design competition!

This week's competition theme was "Death and Taxes" and featured a brand new keyword, which doesn't exist in Hearthstone, called Cost.

The clarifications on how Cost works can be found below.

  • Cards with a Cost cannot be played unless their Cost can be paid. These are not like Soulfire or Doomguard, who can still be played even when their intended drawbacks won't do anything because you have no cards in your hand.
  • Costs are assumed to be targeted if possible. If something Costs a friendly minion or a card in your hand, for example, it's assumed that you target a friendly minion or select the card in your hand unless the Cost specifies something random.
  • For the sake of realism and consistency with the existing game, a card can only have one targeted effect. For example, if a Spell has a targeted Cost, then its effect cannot be targeted. Likewise, if you want your Minion to have a targeted Battlecry, then its Cost should not be targeted.
  • Just like other existing effects, Costs are assumed by default to apply to elements on the battlefield rather than in your hand. For example, just as Shattered Sun Cleric is limited to friendly minions in play rather than ones in your hand, so would the above Devilsaur's "Cost: A friendly Beast." require you to target and destroy a friendly Beast in play. It's fine for Costs to destroy cards in your hand, deck, etc., but then they need to say so specifically.

140 valid entries have been whittled down to 16 of the community's favourites and now we need the community's help yet again to determine who will win. You can find all of this week's entries and the poll over on our Finalist Voting Thread.

This Week's Finalists

You can find all of this week's finalists below - but make sure you check them out again in the finalist topic as some entries have additional cards associated with them that we have not listed here.
