HearthPwn Card Design Competition Season 4 - Death and Taxes

HearthPwn Card Design Competition Season 4 - Death and Taxes

This week's card design competition submission phase is live and the theme is Death and Taxes.

This weeks theme comes from Bibikis, whose "Veiled Informant" was the winner of our "A Shocking Revelation!" competition. It should be noted that this week's competition has some really important rules that you should read to make sure you don't get disqualified!

Competition-Specific Restrictions:

  •  This week, we have a brand new keyword for you to use! This being a brand new mechanic, there are no existing examples, but the theme's creator did provide us with a rough original example:

Here are a couple of clarifications on the finer points of how Costs works:

  • Cards with a Cost cannot be played unless their Cost can be paid. These are not like Soulfire or Doomguard, who can still be played even when their intended drawbacks won't do anything because you have no cards in your hand.
  • Costs are assumed to be targeted if possible. If something Costs a friendly minion or a card in your hand, for example, it's assumed that you target a friendly minion or select the card in your hand unless the Cost specifies something random.
  • For the sake of realism and consistency with the existing game, a card can only have one targeted effect. For example, if a Spell has a targeted Cost, then its effect cannot be targeted. Likewise, if you want your Minion to have a targeted Battlecry, then its Cost should not be targeted.
  • Just like other existing effects, Costs are assumed by default to apply to elements on the battlefield rather than in your hand. For example, just as Shattered Sun Cleric is limited to friendly minions in play rather than ones in your hand, so would the above Devilsaur's "Cost: A friendly Beast." require you to target and destroy a friendly Beast in play. It's fine for Costs to destroy cards in your hand, deck, etc., but then they need to say so specifically.

Your card must have the Cost keyword. Cards that merely interact with the Cost keyword will not qualify, like how Undertaker would not qualify as having Deathrattle.
