Blizzard Responds to Community Outrage on Purify
There has been outrage in the community over the weekend after Purify was revealed. It has lead to jokes, memes, countless threads, and a few big-time Hearthstone community members made videos addressing the card.
Iksar stated on reddit that they were already happy with the options Priests were getting from Karazhan through Neutrals and because of that wanted to try something different.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
Quote from /u/IksarHSWe've had similar articles in the past about design stories for particular cards, I think the most recent one I remember discussed all the design iterations that Yogg went through. Card designs have a number of different goals, sometimes those goals are immediate competitive play and sometimes they shoot for something else. Things like flavor, arena viability, or sprinkling in tools for a new or existing archetype. In smaller sets, it can be a little risky to take a gamble on a new toolkit because there are fewer cards to work with. In the case of Priest, we were pretty happy with the amount of options the class was getting from neutral (Barnes, Curator*, Medivh, Dragon Cards) to do some testing with a new archetype that Purify could be a part of. In my mind there is some positive to the outcry over Purify because I think people will definitely try it out and report any successes/failures/stories they had building and playing a 'silence your own stuff' priest. None of this is to say anyone is wrong in their feedback, but just to communicate some of the ideas surrounding a card design. Hearthstone is important to all of us, and we're trying to do better in terms of communication and understanding what different communities (like this one) are most interested in. I've been happy to be here and have a conversation about what you all want from the game, thanks for being so passionate about it. :D
HAHAHAHA take a look at this video abou purify!! SO fun! "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov4sKqR4ttk"
Omg take a look at this card!! "http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4Bn5yrzHWsQi62AiSu6oxS-650-80.jpg" the perfect card for priest, cost 2 3/2 Battlecry: Gain +1 health for each enemy minion!! so nice!
Players React to purify: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZiLMreNWdM&feature=share"
lets hate this card so much that just because we hate this card so much it can somehow be good
When you compare it to Power Word: Shield it sure looks weak. I will try it out, but it definitely should have been 1 mana, or they could have really tried pushing it and making it 0.
Puck Furify.. Truly one of the worst designed cards ever in HS.
If Silence and Wailing Souls never worked for negative ability minions, why would this overpriced card change anything at all?
so basically we wont touch it till it's been released and then lets hope the rest of the adventure catches their attention that way every1 forgets about purify or more simply put deal with it we might change it when we nerf arcane intellect
So if i read that correctly, all he said was "This card sucks. The card will be played with on the first day by people trying to see how trash it is. And then we'll push silence Priest further because we do what we want. Just like we've finally pushed beast druid to broken OP tier; are pushing discard warlock, totem shaman and thief Rogue."
that's blizzards strategy to balancing a lot of their games "This suck, let's make it not suck...20 OP buffs later... lets nerf the shit out of it."
I wonder if Blizzard was scared of making "Shaman 2.0" and went way too light on the priest buffs, leading to a weak card like this. Being so afraid not to over buff a single class, they failed to buff the class at all. What a shame.
I do wonder if Dragon Priest will be viable. Always seems to be on the fringe of being a true meta deck.
Mark of yshaarj is a situational +2/2 draw a card
Because purify is also situational, you are basically expecting to get at least +2/2 worth of value EVERY time you use it. (When making a deck with purify you should be expecting that much value for it to be worthwhile. While getting something like +1/2 might still be worth it, if you are going to build a deck around, that isn't good enough)
It sucks in silence priest because the whole point of that deck is tempo, and purify is expensive cycle.
we already have yeti, we don't need to purify an ancient watcher (same value as existing card and situational)
On the other hand: ancient watcher + silence is a 4/5, while something like Succubus is a 4/3. (which is better than the existing card succubus)
See the difference?
While I am okay with the idea of adding cards that aren't meant to be good. This is a bad time for that.
In my opinion, priest doesn't need BETTER cards per-say, they just need more options.
I was hoping that priest would get at least one new 2 drop, 3 drop, or form of aoe; and we got none of these.
Sure there are neutral cards, but there wasn't a single card I saw that blew me away or made me think "Oh, this would be great in priest". The best Reaction I got was: "This might be an acceptable replacement for priest's lack of decent cards.
For example: Pompus thespian, netherspite historian, Arcane anomaly, arcane giant, book wyrm, medivh, heck even moat lurker.
Even when looking at these cards, I don't think that priest can even utilize them better than other classes.
When I look at these, I think "They could be okay in priest, but other classes would benefit from them even more"
So, as a priest main, I'm getting really sick of all this. give me something I can use.
Ideas? -
2 mana 2/3 battlecry, give a minion -1 attack
3 mana 2/5, at the start of your turn restore 1 health to all friendly minions.
3 mana, deal X damage, randomly split between enemy minions equal to target friendly minions health.
Purify will counter Rogue "get cards from your opponents class". Op op!
Burgle nerf confirmed.
Don't you have to play against Priests to Burgle out Purify? Or can you Burgle it from any opponent ;)? Burgle nerf debunked.
What a sickening non-response. Treating the community like children who can't understand their 'master plan', which is complete delusions of grandeur. Essentially, it boils down to "We're right and you're wrong, so shut up." despite the fact they are almost ALWAYS wrong.
Seriously, fuck Blizzard. They say they work in mysterious ways us mortals can't understand, so they literally think they are God or something.
There's one simple explanation for everything, and it can be found in the principle of Hanlon's Razor: Blizzard are just fucking idiots. No more, no less.
Its like to create a Frostwolf Grunt, with a Pompous Thespian already in the collection...
Is even fucking worst.
This was the wrong set for this card. With priest being in a bad place, they needed 3 big cards. This should have been a Nax or GvG to work with Wailing Host type decks or at least a large expansion so that the other cards could make up for it.
Oh my- we have to report to Mike Donais on World of Warcraft to creating a bad spell for the Priest Class :O
No but the mechanic is alright, of couse you can't give a free draw, even if you silence one of your minions for 0 mana...the problem is just that you are playing this card for 2 mana. I guess everyone would have been happy if this card costed just 1 mana instead of 2 whitch makes every card just bad. Even if you play barnes what are you suspecting to get on like turn 4 to stop the cancer spreading among you? I guess Kripp just got it in his video that The designers are not listening to us but in fact doing what they want because well they know people will still buy this expansion...
